I tend to always have dry skin, and so slathering on lotions and chemicals doesn’t really make sense for me. Instead, I prefer oils. I recently did a post on my new favorite….COCONUT OIL, but there are a few other oils that I love and wanted to share with you as well.
Instead of baby oil, which is just mineral oil, or lotions containing mineral oil, use one of these more natural oils…!
Quoted from Wikipedia: “Most often, mineral oil is a liquid by-product of the distillation of petroleum to produce gasoline and other petroleum-based products from crude oil.”
Um, hello? A by-product of petroleum to produce gasoline? Really? And we put this on our skin and our babies?! What is wrong with us?
There are many great, natural alternatives to Mineral Oil/Baby Oil that I like to use.
These work great as skin moisturizers, eye makeup removers, and even as a hair moisturizer/serum. These are my personal favorites, are easy to find, and cheap.
I also like to make my own mixture of them, using mostly coconut oil, a little jojoba, and a little avocado oil as a skin moisturizer and hair serum.
Coconut oil is available now at most grocery stores, I buy it from Trader Joe’s.
The Jojoba Oil I also buy from Trader Joe’s.
The Avocado Oil and Sweet Almond Oil I found at my local Rite Aid Store, and they are by De La Cruz.

Jojoba oil is my favorite for oil for my face, here are other uses for Jojoba oil:
Eye and Face Makeup Remover
Add a few drops of jojoba oil to fingers or to a cotton ball and wipe over eyes and face.
Rinse off with water and follow with regular cleanser.
Facial Cleanser and Moisturizer
To cleanse normal to dry skin, apply with a few drops on fingers or cotton ball. Remove with water.
Pat a few more drops on to damp skin for a lasting moisture treatment. Or after dispensing any facial moisturizer onto your palm, try adding 5-6 drops of jojoba oil to make it into a super moisturizer.
Body Moisturizer
Apply immediately after shower or bath, while skin is still damp
It seals in moisture, leaving skin soft and smooth.
Massage and Bath Oil
Great for a massage therapist or for use at home. Perfect for sensitive skin.
Add a few drops to your bath to leave skin moisturized, soft, and smooth.
Foot and Hand Softener
Use alone or add a few drops to your regular moisturizer. For an intense foot treatment, apply oil,
wrap in gauze and put on socks. Leave on for at least one hour. Feet will be beautifully soft
and smooth.
Hair and Scalp Massage
Add a few drops to hands. Massage into scalp to relieve dryness.
Deep Conditioning Treatment for Hair
Pour a quarter-sized amount of oil into hands. Smooth over damp hair, applying most of oil to ends.
Leave on for 5-10 minutes. Shampoo out and style as usual. To help mend split ends, rub one or two drops
into your hand and then apply to ends of your hair. Apply while hair is still damp to help smooth frizzies.
Lip Conditioner
Apply to finger and smooth onto lips. Works great as an overnight treatment.
Cuticle Oil
Apply a few drops to rough, dry cuticles at least once per day.
Shaving Prep and Aftershave
Apply to area beneath your shaving product. Helps prevent razor burn and leaves skin smooth and soft.
Apply directly after shaving to effectively soothe and moisturize skin.

You have listed some excellent benefits – thanks
I bought the Trader Joe’s coconut oil per your recommendation and I just love it!!!! I use it on my legs now instead of the Body Shop’s Body Butter. Works great and 3 times cheaper. =)
I have been using coconut oil for a while now but I always thought it was a pain to use it because of the big jar until I read your blog about snagging travel size bottles from my hotel rooms. I’ve never liked the products most hotels offer so I love filling them up with my normal stuff. So helpful!!!
Definitely going to try the other oils!
Good to know, never thought of using oils!
