CoCo & Cashmere = Gorgeous Hair

đź’—”Coco & Cashmere”đź’— is my hair secret!

COCONUT OIL

is amazing for taming frizz & conditioning hair, plus doubles as a natural and great body moisturizer! Instead of using synthetic serums, try natural coconut oil instead. A little goes a long way! (I’ve written more about coconut oil- click here)

Screen Shot 2013-04-14 at 10.11.18 PM

I’m a huge fan of coconut oil, and have been using it for years, as a body moisturizer, cuticle oil, hair defrizzer, deep conditioner, and facial moisturizer.  I love the spray version that just recently became available at Trader Joes, you can also find it at the regular grocery stores. I use it all over my body after a shower by spraying it on and then rubbing it in, then what is left on my hands after rubbing it on my body, I then smooth it on the ends of my hair. It’s easier to apply and less messy than the solid version, you can even keep it in your shower and spray yourself down after showering! The best part is that it’s all natural, and even edible. Why not put something on your body, that you can also put in it?

Baby Powder as a Dry Shampoo

8 Apr

36599-00_l

Baby Powder isn’t just for babies, and is a must have beauty product. There are so many uses for it, but a favorite and most popular beauty secret is to use it as a dry shampoo.  Using baby powder as a dry shampoo on oily/dirty hair is a great solution to absorb oil and refresh your hair.

There are also great alternatives to traditional baby powder that are more natural & talc-free. Baby powder is reasonably priced and it lasts a really long time.

Shake powder out into palm of your hand, rub together in hands and work the powder into the scalp & roots where hair is the most oily. Once applied, work a brush through root to tip to get rid of excess powder and to distribute evenly.

We Recommend: Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Dusting Powder because it is talc free!

How are Cashmere Hair Extensions different?

Hair extensions are not just for adding length. You can achieve volume, texture, chemical free color, highlights and color accents all without the use of harsh chemicals. No longer do you have to wait months or even years to have the look and lifestyle you desire.  Cashmere Hair Extensions will give you instant gratification!

webFINAL diagram hair SUPERIOR

Owning a set of Cashmere Hair Extensions, not only saves you THOUSANDS of dollars, but is the easiest and most convenient hair extension system.  Salon applied hair extensions are extremely damaging and over priced. Cashmere Hair Extensions are a one time payment, with the convenience of at home custom application. Cashmere Hair provides the perfect alternative to permanent hair extensions and look even better! This is the ultimate DIY system for even the most inexperienced user, that only takes minutes to put in and seconds to remove. With Cashmere Hair you can have salon quality hair with out spending the time or money.

What is the quality of the hair?

Cashmere Hair is 100% High Quality Cuticle Human Hair. The hair cuticle is facing in the same direction which prevents tangling and matting. This High Quality Hair allows for better blending with your own hair and gives the appearance of natural, healthy looking hair.

What really makes our hair extensions the BEST is our gentle dying process, which takes up to 9 – 12 days.  Other 2 day processes, which rapidly dye hair using heavy acid and chemicals, cause damage to the hair. This heavy chemical processing causes hair to loose vital moisture and nutrition. Instead, our process of dying is a very slow process which is the least damaging to hair and gives you the healthiest quality hair, allowing your hair extension to look their best longest. We take the quality of our product very seriously, which is why we set ourselves apart from other companies on a completely different level of quality & authenticity. We have our strands laboratory tested and certified to be 100% Cuticle human hair, the highest quality available.

Other companies mask the harsh chemical process by using silicone to disguise the bad quality of the hair to make it feel silky when you first purchase it. After a few shampoos you might notice that the coating come off, and true nature of the quality is revealed.

webLTPINKSBS-0542a1LIGHTPINKDRESS

Will Cashmere Hair Extensions damage my hair and how long my extensions last?

No damage will occur, and unlike traditional salon extensions. Cashmere Hair Extensions should last you anywhere between 6 to 12 months, with proper care and maintenance. Clip-in Hair Extensions can be reapplied and styled daily. If using a curling iron or flat iron, we recommend first styling your own hair, and then styling the clip-ins similarly before clipping in. Although, we always recommend using the least possible heat styling while getting the most uses out of the hair before rewashing. It is not necessary to wash your extensions after every use. Keep in mind, just like our own hair, any type of heat wears on the hair in time. These tips will save your own hair & extensions from extra unnecessary heat styling damage. Tip: Always try and treat your hair extensions with lots of love!

Can I dye Cashmere Hair Extensions?

Cashmere Hair Extensions are made of real hair just like your natural hair. It is always recommended to see one of our trained professional hair stylist or a professional you trust to assist you with any changes that you would like made to your hair extensions.  Please choose the hair extension color that is closest to your natural hair color, we do not recommend dying the hair extensions, since many of them have already been specially dyed. Our goal is to supply you with the best quality hair extensions possible, and we have a very special dying process that keeps the hair in the healthiest condition. Further dying could damage the hair if not done by our professionals.

Will Cashmere Hair Extensions be visible, will people be able to tell I’m wearing them?

No, Cashmere Clip-in Hair Extensions should not be visible. The beauty of Cashmere Hair Clip-extensions is that they make achieving the look of gorgeous hair naturally. Once fitted they are a perfect blend with your own hair. They provide unlimited versatility with a natural look and feel. Our clip-in system is suggested to be worn low on your head making it easy to disguise and blend with your own hair. Part of the secret of wearing hair extensions is blending your hair extensions into your natural hair for the most discrete & natural look.

Will Cashmere Hair Extensions stay in my hair, without slipping out?

These hair extensions make having the look of gorgeous hair easy, fast and comfortable. With in minutes you will have the gorgeous hair you’ve always wanted. Specially designed small silicone pressure clips allow these hair extensions to be put in and taken off in just minutes and without the worry of sliding or snapping open. Our hair extensions are undetectable and natural looking when inserted properly. No teasing is necessary prior to clipping into hair for most hair types.

Will Cashmere Hair Extensions work with very thin hair?

If you have very thin hair, Cashmere Hair will definitely be the perfect match for your desirable look. Depending on the severity of the thinning of your hair, you will need enough hair to lie over the top weft to cover it. Backcombing the hair above the top weft can help disguise easier. Ideally you would want your hair to be at least 6 inches long for best results.

What is the length of Cashmere Hair Extensions?

Cashmere Hair Extensions are 18″-20″ long (47cm-49cm). When worn in the recommended application they automatically layer themselves giving you a more natural look.

What color do I choose?

When choosing a color to match your own hair, choose a color that matches your hair from the middle to the ends. Never choose the hair color of your “roots” as that is always darker. The color match blend for your hair will be from your middle length to ends. So choosing a color closest this area of your hair will give you the best results. If your unique hair color is not available in our color chart, the best options is to place a custom order with Cashmere.

Obsessed! My New Monda Studio LED Makeup Case

Obsessed! My New Monda Studio LED Makeup Case

I attended this year’s The Makeup Show LA, and fell in LoVe! This year was my second year attending, so I knew what to expect and came prepared. What I wasn’t prepared for, was my newest obsession, the Monda Studio LED Makeup Case that I bought for a STEAL at the show!! The glistening bright lights that rim the mirror in the top of the case called to me as I walked by them in the Nigel’s booth, and I couldn’t help but stare in awe of this beautiful invention. I had seen lighted makeup cased before, but they were huge, had actual lightbulbs and were over $1000. The price tag was so reasonable on these cases, and the size was absolutely perfect. I first decided that I would get the smallest size, but at the last minute changed my mind to get the medium sized one.

The MSC-810 LED Lighted Mirror Make Up Station is the one I purchased. I comes on wheels, and has a handle to pull like a suitcase when it is closed and upright. It’s a little on the heavy side, but because it’s on wheels it’s manageable.

The best part, for me, are the lights! They work really well and are LED lights, which last a really long time 30-50,000 hours, you don’t need to replace them, and you can even brighten or dim them for the proper lighting effect! These lights also emit a minimal amount of heat and save 80% of the energy that incandescent lights use  It plugs into an outlet, and just press the button to turn them on, and you are ready to go!

For professional makeup artists, this is a great way to get better lighting on the go, and for personal use, the smaller sized ones are perfect for your own personal vanity!

It comes in 3 Sizes! (mine is the medium size.)

Fabulous Rich Girl Hair

14 Jan

Want to look Fabulously Rich this year!? —–> Start with your HAIR.

155W1494aweb

Thick and healthy hair is frequently a sign of fertility and youth and is thought of most attractive across cultures. Hair length and quality can act as a cue to youth and health. Hair also says a lot about your personal style as much as your clothes and choice of makeup. If our hair looks amazing when we leave the house, our attitude and confidence are high. But if having a bad hair day, it can bring misery and lack of confidence, starting your day off on the wrong foot.

Not all of us our blessed with amazing long full hair, in fact, most people would love to have someone else’s hair. That’s why we go to the hair salon and change it’s color, get hair extensions, and cut it into different styles. These salon treatments can get really expensive, especially if they require frequent upkeep.  But if you want to look expensive, it doesn’t have to come with a steep price tag. The ultimate status symbol, similar to the look of an expensive purse, is expensive looking hair. Expensive hair is shiny, healthy, long, thick, full of life and movement. You don’t need a celebrity hair-stylist to achieve a rich look, here are some quick tips to start you in the right direction.

There are a few things that you can do to achieve this Hollywood hairstyle secret.

Take the time! My best advice for rich looking hair, is always leave the house with at least your hair looking fabulous. Take the time to put on less makeup or just wake up a bit earlier, and spend some extra time on your hair. Healthy hair looks as if you actually have the time (& funds) to treat your hair right.

Fake it, until you make it. This is not only a Hollywood secret for success, but can also be applied when it comes to your hair! So many women can’t grow their hair past a certain point. If that is you, fake it. Real hair Clip-in Hair extensions are the easiest, fastest, lowest maintenance, and cheapest way to have rich girl hair. Using the “hair donut” also gives you the illusion of a full glamorous bun, even if you have shorter or thinner hair, and only costs a few dollars.

Grow it out. Long hair really embodies the idea of rich looking hair. If you can, grow it out, as much as you can, avoid “needing a change” and making the CHOP.

Nurture your hair. This one will take the most time, and is the hardest for a lot of women.  But if you have damaged your hair over the years with salon treatments, color or heat tools, try to instead go Au-nautural and try to quit dyeing it, airdry instead of blowdrying, and give it a nice long break! Breakage is never rich looking. Long, soft, full brown hair, is way better than short broken and damaged blonde strands. Any day.

Wear it down. Wearing your hair down, tends to look like you spent more time on it, than wearing it in a ponytail. The glossy, cascading curls (aka Victoria’s Secret Waves) are a glam style that’s universally chic, you can’t go wrong with long, tumbling waves. This is not only my personal favorite way to style my hair, this is also a style is that frames the face and works with almost any face shape. It never looks “too perfect,” and can last for all day without losing it’s freshness.

Expensive isn’t always better! You can master the color job at home, or find a stylist that you trust at an affordable price. You really don’t need a celebrity hair stylist to get the same results.

Avoid cheap hair looks! Never go over the top, or over do your hair. Cheap hair looks like “too much,” as in too much hair spray, too much crazy highlights or color, trying too-hard style. “Natural-Looking” is always the best look, so don’t be afraid to shake it out a bit when you are done styling, finger comb it out, or even spritz it lightly with water to “unperfect it.”

Practice, and then Practice some more! Mastering a great hair style can take some time. Practice a lot, get a friend’s help, watch youtube tutorials, whatever it takes to master the techniques.

So, if you are going to leave the house, and you want to still look fabulous, don’t leave without fabulous looking hair!

Love,

Sunset Blonde

Wedding Day Makeup DIY

10 Dec

I’ve always preferred doing my own makeup over how anyone else does it. I have always felt like I do it best, even if it wasn’t always the best. Now that I’m a Makeup Artist, after getting professional training, experience, and learning industry secrets, I feel like I can do my makeup better than any one else can for my wedding day. And so can you!!

My wedding is taking place in Norway. A beautiful country that I have fallen in love with, but also a country that is still unfamiliar to me in so many ways. I know already, that I wont be able to find a local makeup artist that can do a better job than I can on my wedding day. So, I decided right away, that I would just do my own hair and makeup. I also recently gave some advice to a friend that was having a destination wedding, who asked me about doing her own makeup.

Here’s my advice for doing your own wedding day makeup:

Don’t stray too far from the makeup routine you usually do, just perfect it by having the right tools and products. You can even higher a professional makeup artist for a private lesson to help and give you pointers. The best wedding makeup, is still looking like yourself! Youtube also has many how-to makeup videos to help.

Do not wear SPF on your big day; it doesn’t photograph well. It tends to reflect the light, even when worn under makeup it can make you look pale or shiny in flash photographs.

Use blotting papers to soak up excess oil during your wedding to avoid caking on too much powder.

And, especially for this day, even though it’s a pain to remove at night, use waterproof mascara and eyeliner!

Find inspiration for your wedding day makeup look. Whether you are experienced with applying makeup or new to it, keep it simple, classic and as natural as possible.

Practice this look on yourself. Many times. I suggest beginning to practice the final makeup choice on yourself at least a month before the wedding.

Get the right products for the look. Long wearing formulas, waterproof, high quality formulas, and the right shades are essential for creating that perfect wedding day look. Buying the right products and shades will help you to look your best on the big day.

Have the right makeup brushes. A great way to not only ensure proper makeup application on your wedding day, but a great investment for your makeup collection everyday. High quality makeup brushes last longer than any makeup, they also ensure easier and more natural application. You can buy great ones I have designed at sunsetblonde.com.

If it’s an option, ask a friend to help you on the big day. Ask someone with a steady hand to help you apply that liquid liner, or apply the false lashes on your big day to relieve some stress and any mistakes. It’s a great idea to ask them before the big day, and do a trial run. I recommend waterproof mascara and individual false lashes, because they will look more natural and you wont run the risk of them coming unglued if you tear up.

Bring touch-up Makeup. Things happen during the wedding that can mess up even a professional makeup job. So expect to touch up your makeup every bathroom trip you make. At least try to look at it and make sure everything looks ok. Crying, hugging and kissing, dancing, and even eating can cause your makeup to disappear. Bring a compact with powder to cover shine, lipcolor, and Qtips as the bare minimum. You even ask a bridesmaid to hold it in her purse.

The most important part of your makeup for your big day is evening out your skintone for that flawless bride look, using foundation, concealer under eyes and on blemishes (apply over foundation), and a translucent setting powder.

Remember that a natural look is always best for your wedding day, so NO harsh/super bright colors or extreme sparkle.

Here are some inspirational makeup photos that I found for my wedding day makeup look, which might help you too:

Behind the Scenes-Very Sexy Photoshoot with Sunset Blonde

17 Nov

Recently, I did a photoshoot to get some new photos to update my portfolio. I wanted new photos because my bangs had grown out significantly, and my hair color is different too, going back to my natural shade.

I had been wanting to shoot again with one of my favorite photographers, Mike Prado for a few months. We had been trying to plan a good time to shoot and he called me the night before asking to fill in to shoot with him at a studio he rented because the other model cancelled. I jumped at the opportunity! Mike is very talented and totally professional, and I’ve always enjoyed shooting with him. He is excellent at lighting and composition. He photos are so good, they honestly don’t need retouching or post production! And just to show you, I am showing you some shots (below) straight from the camera screen!

Given that this shoot was last minute, I threw together some sexy clothes/lingerie, accessories and shoes to style it myself. I got inspired by a photos of Rosie Huntington from an issue of Maxim, and tore them out and brought with to the shoot. I wanted this to be a very sexy shoot.  I choose mostly black and white clothing items, and some of my favorite accessories, to keep it simple. Mike is excellent at lighting, he really balances all of the light so that it hits you perfectly, making you look flawless and gorgeous! So I knew that I didn’t need much to make this shoot successful.

We did 2 looks. One white look, on a set bed with white sheets, gold head board, a few turquoise pillows and tulle. I wanted it to be really soft and sexy, like my inspiration tears, so I wore white lingerie, and some of them were implied.  The second look was against a glossy black painted wall with a leather bench. For this look I made my eye makeup darker, and my lip color lighter/paler, to give it more of an edgy/sexy look. I wore black lace lingerie, and a black leather fringe vest with black booties. I then wanted to ditch the vest and booties, and put on some sexy strappy Jimmy Choos.

Here’s a shot of the clothes I brought to the shoot:

Several lingerie options, a white silk shirt, a black silk button-up, a black leather fringe vest, and a cozy sweater. I only shot in about half of the stuff I brought with.

I kept the shoes simple, and brought only 3 pairs. My dressy satin Louboutins with the bow and chunky heel, super high strappy black suede Jimmy Choos, and some black booties from Steve Madden.

I did my own makeup and hair before arriving at the shoot, and only needed to do touch ups for the first look. I easily changed the makeup for the second look by just adding eyeliner along the waterlines on top and bottom eyelids, and I changed the lipstick to a very pale nude shade. I wore this look against a black background with black lingerie, and a black leather fringe vest.

This was my makeup station at the studio, I also had my accessories and “inspiration tears” also spread out on the table. We also used the makeup station as a backdrop for some of the photos, which came out great! Mike is so creative!

The makeup station in the studio, of my personal makeup set up, accessories and inspiration tears.

The magazine spread of Rosie Huntington that inspired my shoot:

A close up of some of the accessories that I brought to the shoot. I only ended up using the gold hoop earrings, and the bronze bangles, along with my Right Hand Rings.

Some of the makeup and tools I used for this photoshoot, of course you can see all of the SUNSET BLONDE Makeup Brushes I used! These two in front are from the new HOLLYWOOD HIDEF Collection coming soon to Sunsetblonde.com.  They are synthetic bristles, that are extremely soft and high quality, perfect for achieving my flawless look!

Makeup Forever Shopping

5 Nov

As a professional makeup artist, I love that I get major discounts on makeup. Especially 40% off at MAKEUP FOREVER. I love the brand, and I think they make great quality makeup, have an amazing selection of colors, as well as unique products. Today I visited the Makeup Forever store location on Robertson Blvd with a girl friend of mine. She needed a few things, and I never pass up the chance to go makeup shopping! I got a few repeat items, as well as some new ones, plus they gave me a free gift!

Here’s what I got:

Aqua Black Waterproof Cream Eyeshadow.

I use this as an eyeliner. It has the best staying power, and is easily applied with the Sultry Liner Brush from Sunset Blonde Beauty. It is the perfect product to get the winged cat eye effect, and it also works really well when you desire to rim the water lines of your eye. It stays put better than pencils. I also use it to make a smokey eye look by smudging and blending it.

LAB Shine Diamond Collection Lip Gloss in D 0.

I usually never buy any lip glosses with sparkle, despite my love for things that glitter, for fear of looking like a teen. But this sparkly gloss was one that I just couldn’t pass up. It contains really fine particles of sparkle that just ever so slightly reflect the light. I think this is the perfect clear gloss for a daytime look, and can be layered over a lipstick shade at night for extra glam!

2 Lip Liner pencils in No. 49 and No. 50.

I’m usually not much of a lip liner wearer, but I wanted to buy some new ones in natural shades just to define my lips a little more for special occasions like a Red Carpet event, or photoshoot. I like these neutral shades to blend in with my natural lip color, but still define the lip line. I got one lighter one, and one darker shade in a classic pencil form. No. 50 is a light beige/peachy nude, and No. 49 is a light pinky mauve shade.

Sculpting Blushes in No. 24 Matte fawn & No. 20 Satin blood orange

I love the idea of these two shades being in a pro palette. Seeing them next to each other is really inspiring to actually use these shades as sculpting tools for my cheeks. Using the lighter shade on the apples, and tops of my cheeks, and the darker shades below the cheekbones.

Smokey Lash Extra Black Mascara.

I’m so picky about mascaras, and have gotten tired of buying different brands, and always going back to the same Loreal Voluminous brand that I love. This mascara was a full sized free gift from Makeup Forever that I got with my purchase. The wand is very similar to the Loreal one, but the mascara is a bit thinner, and takes more coats to get a similar effect. This one is a great mascara if you like just a light coat of mascara with NO clumps. .

NEATNIX TOOL BOX

31 Oct

I love organizing.

I love the way it looks when things are neat and organized.

Although, I must admit, I’ve never been good at it, and I’m especially bad at maintaining organization. I’ve been trying really hard to self-teach myself how to be more organized this past year. It’s working, I am so much more organized than I have ever been.  One of the things that has really helped me is learning to use tools/organizing products to help me stay organized and to find a “place for everything.”

Last night I was working at Fairy Studios, and as a Thank You, Katerina Van Derham gave me a Tool Box from a company called NEATNIX. This tool box is really a great size, and I’m excited to use it to organize some things in my own makeup studio! She knows that I’m really into organizing, and this was a great gift! I checked out the neatnix.com website and discovered that they have many other different types of organizing products that are not only practical, but they have great colors and designs!

Their products are also reasonable priced, and if something helps you to stay organized, I think it is worth a little extra $. The Tool Box that I have is $37.50, and it is well made, and durable. It has to large compartments, a top handle that makes it easily portable,  3 small velcro pockets, and 8 slots.

I can’t wait to use it to organize my stuff! Stay tuned for more photos of how I use it to organize!

Real Pearls in Fresh’s Face Luster

29 Oct

I’ve been using Fresh’s Face Luster for over a year now. I keep a compact in my purse, and one at my makeup vanity. When I’m not at a photoshoot, I’ve found it to be the quickest, easiest and most flawless face makeup I’ve ever found. It allows for great coverage because it’s a mineral powder, which I love to use to even out my skin tone, and cover any flaws. I also love the great coverage in a powder form because it is easier to apply than a liquid foundation. It photographs really well, making me look like I’ve been airbrushed.

The most unique quality about this makeup, and what makes it so different, is that it contains crushed pearls!  The crushed pearls in the pressed powder leaves my skin with a natural healthy glow, it’s not sparkly.

I wear it in Sandy Lane, and sometimes wear a light dusting of bronzer over it to darken it up if I’m tanner. It comes with a round sponge which is really easy for on-the-go touch ups, and can also be applied with a makeup brush. I have bought it from Sephora, and directly from the Fresh store, it’s sold out often, so I usually buy 2 at a time.  It’s $45 for a compact, comes in 7 colors, and also contains antioxidants A & E.. It is kind of expensive, but I think it’s so worth it! I’ve never found another face makeup like it. I wish it came in more colors for you ladies, but the shades that they do have are pretty versatile. If you are lucky enough to find your shade, it’s a great face makeup to own.

Here is a list of the ingredients:

Eye Brow Marker

15 Oct

Because I am a blonde, and I have very blonde eyebrows that are naturally very thin and light. I regularly dye them brown so that they are visible, but I also like to give them nice shape and fill them in so they appear thicker. I’ve tried many different eyebrow products, pencils, creams, and powders. While recently shopping at ULTA I came across these brow markers by Laura Geller. I bought it in brown, because I like a slightly darker brow. I was really impressed by this product. It literally looks like a marker, containing a very thin liquid, like a stain applies to your skin and brow hairs. The tip of the marker is very thin which is great for applying it in brush strokes that mimic the fine brow hairs. It dries instantly, and looks really natural. I’ve used it for the past week, and it lasts all day, and washes off easily.

It’s $24.00 and comes in 4 colors, Taupe, Brown, Dark Brown, and Auburn.

How To Keep Your Makeup Fresh All Day

9 Sep

There is no secret to keeping your makeup as fresh as when you first applied it.

The truth is, if you want your makeup to look good all day, you either need to periodically check your face and do touch ups, or you need to start fresh and reapply. There are certainly things that you can do to help it last longer on your face, but your skin is a living breathing thing, that moves, gets touched, gets sweaty, gets oily, and so on. Even simple things like using your phone and eating are guaranteeing you a touch-up. Try to avoid touching your face as much as possible throughout the day, it keeps it cleaner and prevents your makeup from getting messed up for longer.

So many magazines, articles and ads try to tell you otherwise, and list off simple tips to staying flawless all day. But I find that it’s mostly irrelevant tips, or bs.  I’m sharing with you the reality of makeup, which is that makeup is temporary. There is NO way to make it “stay.” The only solution is touch-ups/reapplying.

“How do you keep your makeup looking so flawless and last throughout the day?” So many girls ask me this question, and I figured I would share my secret for a flawless face . . . TOUCH-UPS!

Now, that I have shared this information with you, don’t freak out! It’s really very easy to do touch ups and reapply. It may seem like a hassle, but it’s just a necessary part of you making the choice to wear makeup. Even “long-wearing formulas” are still temporary.

If you wear a full face of makeup, the parts that you will most likely need to touch up most frequently are, your lips, and your foundation. Keeping a powder compact with a mirror and a lip color with you at all times, is not to difficult and can be kept in your purse.

Another way that I keep my makeup looking fresh, for example after a long day if I want to look fresh for a dinner date, I use a makeup wipe to clean off all of my foundation/powder on my face, leaving my eye makeup on. It is easy to just reapply lotion, foundation, concealer and setting powder and blush in only a few minutes to give my face a fresh look. Eye makeup tends to last longer on me, so I don’t have to touch up on it.

I like to use Comodynes Convenient Cosmetics Make-up Remover Sensitive & Dry Skin wipes from Trader Joe’s. They remove makeup well, and stay really moist.

I recommend keeping a few items with you in your purse or a tiny makeup bag. Whatever you think wears off the quickest, and will help you to look fresh is what you should put in it.

Here are some basic suggestions:

To-Go touch-up kit:

Pressed powder compact with a mirror in a translucent shade, or matching your skintone.

Small travel sized powder brush

Eyeliner (I recommend using a waterproof version so it doesn’t bleed or wear off, but if you love eyeliner, it’s a good idea to keep an extra pencil with you to touch-up with)

Blotting tissues (to remove oil and shine if you have oily skin)

Lip color (something that is easy to apply and natural looking for everyday) (Or that fun color you applied before leaving the house, throw that in your kit/purse)

Small container of concealer, or spare concealer (just in case those dark circles or zits start showing through your previously applied concealer)

I always keep some sort of mineral powder compact for touch ups because it gives great coverage to cover blemishes, to blend streaks, and blends well with the foundation I already have on. I use “Sandy Lane” by FRESH or Almost Poweder Makeup by Clinique in “04 Neutral”

Even during photoshoots, makeup artists are constantly doing touch ups to keep makeup and hair looking fresh, and they usually stay on set all day “just in case.” Unfortunately, we can’t all have our own personal makeup artist with us all day, so be your own personal makeup artist, touch up when you make a trip to the rest room, or whenever you have a minute and a mirror.

Sunset Blonde’s Beauty Junkie Tip To Save You Money

9 Aug

Beauty Junkie Tip: Return Makeup.

This might sound obvious, but I know a lot of you are guilty of a drawer full of beauty products you don’t use.

When it comes to makeup, experimenting is part of the fun of it. Although sometimes, we don’t end up liking the results. This blog post is to encourage you to  return items that you never end up using, wearing, and even ones that you don’t end up liking. WHY waste your money on a makeup product that is going to sit in your drawer and collect dust, and not make you up? Even if you think you will use it at first, then a month goes by, and you ended up only wearing that Hot Pink Lipstick Shade 1 time, (and only around your house) return it!

Just because it’s makeup, doesn’t mean that they won’t take it back. Sephora takes back almost everything, so I’m not afraid to buy from there.

Keep all your makeup receipts in a pretty box, so they are easy to find. Also, don’t rip open any additional packaging, try to neatly remove it and save it for a little while, until you decide it’s a keeper. You can even place it in your receipt box, or keep them in the original shopping bag and store it in your closet.

Aside from the inconvenience of driving to the store, it is actually easier to return things that you might imagine. Most give you a nice time frame, so now you just have to remember to bring it with you next time you shop there.

For example:

Sephora will accept returns for a full refund if you are not completely satisfied. I always bring in my receipt and the product with the original packaging if possible.

Ulta will give you a complete refund within 60 days of the purchase price with receipt.

Walgreens will refund your money/or give you an exchange within 30 days of purchase. With original receipt, items will be returned for the full purchase price and refunds will be issued in the original method of payment.

Walmart items can be exchanged or refunded with a receipt within 90 days of purchase.

SAKS  you may exchange, replace, or credit your purchase when it is presented in saleable condition, just present the merchandise to an associate at any Saks Fifth Avenue store with the original receipt.

MAC will take returns within 30 days of purchase with receipt, even if you used it and didn’t like it, or it was the wrong color.

So as you can see from the few examples above, most have pretty generous return policies. I just wait until I need to go in the store again in most cases before making the extra trip. Just beware of the time limit.

I was thinking about sharing this with you today because I returned some hair bows, and a nail polish color to Ulta today, that I decided I was NEVER going to use and didn’t really like. They were still sitting in their original packaging, and I hadn’t even used them. So, I went into my receipt box, grabbed it out, took the items into the store, and got a refund. I got almost $35 back, which isn’t much, but I feel like I made money!  I just ended up using it to buy some other beauty products that I really needed today.

Now, if you are anything like me, a beauty store is a candy shop for me. I can spend a long time in a beauty store testing, looking and new products, reading ingredients, choosing colors, ect. Because I love to try new products, sometimes I purchase new ones that end up being bad, or I realize it’s not a good color for me, or it doesn’t do what it says it will. After all of the “experimental” purchases that you might make, before you know it you have spent a ton of money! Why not save yourself some money so you can buy new things that you DO like, by making a simple return or exchange?

For the future, Most places will take back items if you want to return them.  Return it if you don’t like it! It can end up saving you so much money in the long run. Just by keeping the original packaging and receipt handy, you give yourself the option to get your money back.

Hope this helps you girls and saves you some $$$$$$$$

Sunset Blonde’s Hair Color

7 Aug

I get my hair dyed at a Beverly Hills salon called Fringe Salon on Brighton Way.

It’s a new salon, and has the cutest black, white and purple decor, with a black chandelier, and Oribe hair products. My stylist is Melissa Barone.

I recently got asked on instagram by @mmchado872: “What colors do you ask for when you get your hair done?? I love your blonde pretty natural looking hair :)

So, I asked my hair stylist what she does on my hair. . . and this is what she replied:

” I can’t really tell you much about the color I use, because it changes all the time. I basically do a partial highlight working with the natural tone of your hair so that it creates a soft pale yellow with lighter ends. A very thin highlight throughout and a little thicker in depth on the top to show more prominent highlights.”

I usually go into the salon with an idea of what I want her to do. Since I have been dying my hair blonder for the past few years, I can usually explain to her what I want done. She also takes a look at my hair, and tells me what she thinks. Lately, I’ve been trying to get back to my natural color, and to get rid of the damage that dying my hair has done.

Now, everyone’s hair is different. Different color, different texture, is affected differently by color, so it is really hard to tell you exactly how I get my color. Part of my color is my natural hair color now, which is a dark blonde. I tend to get a little strawberry color in it too sometimes. Lately, I have just been requesting for her to give me blonde highlights. Sometimes she does them thicker, and sometimes she does them thinner, to keep my natural color blended. She also said that she gives me thicker highlights on the top of my head so that it appears more blonde, and that’s where the sun naturally hits. But my roots are still darker than my ends, because my ends don’t have any of my natural color blended in. Here is a photo of what my roots look like:

I do like, and request her to give me highlights around my hairline all the way around my head. I don’t like the drastic look when you put your hair in a ponytail, where you can see the highlights stop because they are only on the top of your head. I get highlights throughout.

Sunset Blonde’s Wedding Day Hair-Do Inspirations

3 Aug

My fiance only had one request (so far) for the wedding day. He said that he prefers that my hair be down. Which I was happy to hear because that’s how I want to wear it as well. I always think that I look more glamorous and feel prettier when my hair is down. I did some research for some down hairstyles that would work on my wedding day for inspiration and here is what I found:

This is my favorite look, big, wavy full:

Love the softness of this, Kate Hudson’s hair always looks incredible!

I also might consider parting it to the side, my bangs will be much longer by the date of my wedding.

I love the length of Elle’s hair, which can always be achieved with clip-in hair extensions! ;)

Simple yet glamorous Heidi Klum’s mane is stunning:

Again, Kate Hudon’s hair! Wow, even a little messy, it looks incredible. . .

I’ve also been considering doing a subtle half-up-do like this one below so that the veil I will be wearing will stay on better….but we will see. I haven’t decided yet. . .

I will be doing my own hair on my wedding day. I know I will be the most happy with it.

I also wanted to point out that the makeup in all of these photos is nice for Bridal makeup as well. With the exception of how shimmery Heidi Klum’s cheeks are…a little too much highlighter for a wedding day. I will be doing another post on my plans for my wedding day makeup, when I get close to the date.

Beauty Secret: Baby Shampoo Removes Eye Makeup

2 Aug

This is one of my all time favorite products. Baby Shampoo. Baby body wash works just as well.

I’ve been holding out on sharing this secret of mine with you because I just hold it so dear to me, that I only like to share it with close friends.

But why do I love it so much you wonder?

Here’s why:

I started using baby shampoo years ago to remove my eye makeup. I don’t like using my face wash around my eyes, and I wanted a safe and cheap alternative to most of the makeup removers out there. I wanted a soap-type product that would remove my eye makeup before I applied my face wash. So one day I realized that baby shampoo was the only soap that was gentle enough that doesn’t sting your eyes. I remembered reading on the bottles “tear free.” If it could be used on babies, it has to be safe!

I keep it in the shower and also in a pump dispenser near my sink. I wet my hands, and put some on my fingers and GENTLY rub it into my eye makeup and then I rinse it all away. I usually glance up into the mirror to see if I have rinsed it all way. Sometimes, I need to rinse and repeat because it is so gentle it doesn’t always remove it all the first time. I’m ok with that. I wear contacts, and it is gentle enough to use with contacts as well.

A few years later, at an eye doctor visit, my eye doctor recommended that I try using baby shampoo to remove my eye makeup. She also told me that it can prevent you from getting a sty. I was so please to hear her recommend it, and told her that I was already using it every night.

Since I have other makeup artist putting makeup on me all the time, who knows how clean their makeup is, it is always a little relieving when I go home and wash it off with my baby shampoo. I haven’t gotten a sty since I’ve been using baby shampoo to remove my eye makeup.

A bottle of baby shampoo lasts a really long time when just used for this purpose. It also can double as a body wash or shampoo when you are traveling. There are so many different types and brands of baby shampoo, I’m sure almost any of them would work. . .

So there, now I have told you about my favorite beauty product!  Maybe you have already heard this before, but if you haven’t, try it!

Tip: It doesn’t work to remove water-proof makeup. Only regular eye makeup!

VIVA GLAM MAGAZINE PARTY-Red Carpet Look

30 Jul

20120730-150556.jpg

Last night I went out to support VIVA GLAM MAGAZINE!

As one of the Beauty Editors of the Magazine, I walked the Red Carpet at the Event, which took place in the courtyard of the W Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard.

It was a great party with so many of my beautiful co-workers and friends. Katarina Van Derham- the Founder of Viva Glam Magazine, Jessica Hall, Jessie Golden, Angela Taylor, Irina Veronina, Marketa Janska, Leilani Dowding, and Joanna Krupa just to name a few!

Here are a few of my Red Carpet photos.

I wanted to keep my look glamorous, but still natural, so I did a slightly different version of my Signature Eye Makeup Technique, wearing only mascara on my bottom lashes, and blending a dark brown eyeshadow into the crease concentrating most of the shadow on the outer corners. I’m also wearing liquid eyeliner only in the outer corners of my upper lashes. I have on a 5 knot free Medium length individual flare lashes on each eyelid that I blended with mascara into my own lashes. I used Loreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black. I am wearing Makeup Forever HD Foundation in #123, with a light dusting of Bare Minerals Powder Foundation in Golden Medium over it. I used Hoola bronzer under my cheekbones for definition and blended upward, followed by Bobbie Brown Bronzer in Golden Light (which is sort of a reddish bronzer) on my cheeks as a blush for extra color without looking like I’m wearing blush. On my lips I have a light layer of lipgloss by Nars called Chelsea Girls.

I wanted a very soft “Farrah” style goddess like hair style, and it was oddly humid for LA that night, so I figured my hair would soften and curl anyway. I used a 1 inch curling iron by Hot Tools, and curled pieces away from my face. I just blow dryed my bangs forward with a large round brush and parted them down the middle. As you can see, I am growing out my natural hair color, which is the top portion of my hair (from my eyes up). It is blended into the lighter portion of my hair with subtle highlights.

I wore a blue sequin dress by WowCouture that I got from Flirtnation.com (one of my modeling jobs.)

Louis Vuitton Robertson Clutch

Shoes by Qupid. I love these shoes and have them in 6 colors! They are actually really comfortable, and excellent quality. Instead of buying the $650 Giuseppe’s, since I won’t wear these colored pumps very often, I opted to get a bunch of colors for a STEAL at the link below. I actually think these are a cuter shape than the actual Giuseppe pumps:

GoJane Suede Peep-toe Platform Pumpscj
($25.60, GoJane)

(they might not sell them anymore, I bought mine several months ago.)

Giuseppe Zanotti Suede Platform Pumpsls
($650, Saks)

New Fav: MAC Pro Longwear Lipglass

23 Jul

MAC Pro Longwear Lipglass in the color PATIENCE, PLEASE.

If you are a fan of MAC lip glasses, you will love this new one they just came out with that is a long wearing formula. Very thick and sort of sticky when you press your lips together, but very smooth against your tongue. It is not like any other long wearing lip gloss that I’ve tried, a different consistency, and no gross drying feel. I suggest applying the least amount possible and sort of rub and press your lips together until the color is even and blended onto your lips.

It comes in a bunch of different shades:

Pro Longwear Lipglass ($18.50 US)
Patience, Please Light pale pink
Ready or Not! Neutral light coral with pearl
Infinitely Likable Light pink
Show Me! Mid-tone neutral plum
Whoops! Bright coral (red/orange)
Full Speed Ahead Magenta
Driven by Love Red (blue undertone) with pearl
Lasting Achievement Midtone purple with pearl
Dark as Night Deep plum with pearl

Realistically, they don’t last as long as they claim to on me, but I’m happy that it lasts longer than any regular lip gloss!

My How To Look Better In Photographs-Makeup Tips

22 Jul

How to look good in pictures is always a challenge. Some people are more photogenic than others. But since I’m always in front of the camera, and most of the time I prefer to do my own makeup for my photo shoots than most make artists, I thought I’d share some of my tips on how to photograph better. Here are a few tips on how to look good in pictures using make up.

Apply your make up in natural light/daylight if possible. This is also best for every day makeup application as well as for photos. Some lighting makes it hard to tell what colors really look like, and you can end up doing your makeup too dark or too light & it can look unnatural.  It can be really embarrassing when you leave the house and realize that your makeup looks different than you thought.

Always use Matte Makeup. Matte makeup would be flat colors that don’t have sparkle or shimmer or shine. When you are going to be photographed don’t use any products that are going to reflect light off your face. The flash reflects light off the shimmer and will make you look shiny, distorted, and it will look unnatural.

I always use a slightly yellow face powder which tends to photograph better than shimmery or translucent powders. Although you might not think so, some powders will reflect the light leaving you with a shine or even make you look washed out in pictures.

Wear natural colored Lipstick. You don’t want your mouth to blend in with the rest of your face, nor do you want to wear a color that is completely unnatural. Sometimes our natural lip color is a little strange for example, my lips turn blue when I’m cold, and I’m usually cold at photo shoots, so a good layer of a warm toned lipstick color is always a must for me. It is a good idea to contrast your features. Choose a shade that is a little darker than your natural lip color.

Using blush keeps your face from looking washed out. Don’t over apply blush, just a little extra color on your face is good. Blush adds definition to your face and some color to your cheeks. And again, avoid blush with shimmer or sparkle in it. You may not wear it everyday, but consider it when being photographed.

Using black liner and/or mascara usually looks great in photos. I recommend using black because it will give you better contrast which will make your eyes pop. Just don’t go to heavy on the black eyeliner, you don’t want to look like a raccoon either. Use it just along your lashline or waterlines to enhance your eyes.
Use more concealer! Covering up dark circles under our eyes or blemishes with a little concealer is fine for everyday use, but in pictures, use more concealer for better coverage to reflect light to conceal imperfections and make you look flawless. Just make sure to not have a shade that is too light, slightly lighter or matching your skin tone is best.  Also, blend the concealer extremely well, making sure not to increase fine lines or awkward coloring around the eye. Heavier concealer in real life looks noticeable, but in photos it isn’t, so feel free to use more than you normally would. Sometimes I get blemishes, or no sleep, and using a bit more concealer helps to make me look flawless in photos. Also, always use concealer after applying foundation!
Contour cheekbones and any other places that you want correction. Look better in pictures by contouring  your facial features for more definition in your face. You can use bronzer or contouring powder to brush on under your cheek bones, under your jawline, along the sides of your nose. Using a Fancy Cheeky Brush from Sunset Blonde Beauty for the best and most blended application!

Foundation is not always a necessity, but it does even out skin tone and imperfections. There is something about using foundation in photos that genuinely gives you an airbrushed look. I get asked all the time how I get my skin to look so flawless, and it’s a combination of having the right products and the right tools that works for you, along with practice and experience. My face is much paler than the my body, and so I always like to even it out and change the color of it with a little foundation in a darker shade. You may have red spots, scars, veins, blemishes, discoloration, etc, that you are used to seeing every day, and might not even notice. Or maybe you are very well aware of what’s on your face. For photos, foundation along with concealer can make a huge difference with your skin. Getting some assistance from a professional with selecting the right shade of foundation is always a must. Most people can’t tell what shade they need to match their skin. Using the right foundation will help you look better in photos.

Looking better in photographs is easy with a few helpful makeup tricks. You can also take a few practice shots before heading out, bring your makeup with you, for touch-ups or to correct something you might not have otherwise noticed.  Make sure your make up looks as good in pictures as it does in person.

P.R. Stila Cheek Color Duo

7 Jul

Product Recommendation:

Stila Cheek Color Duo

Color Bronze/ Rose – light pink & roses

I just bought this new Blush from Stila at my shopping trip to Namie’s yesterday. I tried it out in the store, and fell in love!  I also reapplied it before going out to dinner and a movie. It has 2 different shades of blush in one compact little bronze container. It can also be used as eyeshadow, I used the light pink side and dabbed a little on my eyelid and blended with the bronze shade that I was already wearing.

The colors are very shimmery, and usually I don’t go for shimmery cheek color because it can look very unnatural, but there is something fun and girlie about this one that just seems right. I think this is one of those “baked colors” It has a bright rosy pink shade and a plum bronze shade, which allows your to customize your cheek color by mixing them, using only one (the darker shade for a healthy glow, the lighter for fresh radiance), or for contouring. I think because it has shimmery qualities it doesn’t look chalky, it’s a great cheek color for all year round and many different skin tones!

Don’t forget to use the Fancy Cheeky Brush from Sunset Blonde with this blush! It’s the perfect blush brush to use with this blush to give you the most natural and delicate application of cheek color!

The FANCY CHEEKY Brush is THE perfect tool for applying blush, bronzer, highlighter and shading. I recommend getting one for each type of makeup application that you will do.

As a blush brush, the brush picks up less color than an angled or blush brush, and makes it easy to apply it where you want to. A few light sweeps give you a natural look for day, or layer on more for a glam evening look. It allows you to apply it gently and softly, without ever making a mistake or looking like a clown.

Loving this new Stila Cheek Color Duo, I highly recommend it to add to your makeup collection!

Mixed Metal Eyeshadow

25 Jun

Rose Gold and Gold.

Mixing metals can be fun with jewelry, so why not with makeup? I got creative with my eyeshadow this morning and decided to apply 2 different metallic shades to my eyelid.

I used a highly pigmented, very yellow gold shade from urban decay called Honey, and a new Kevyn Aucoin eyeshadow shade that I got in Copper. The name of it is copper, but I think it looks more like a rose gold color, because of it’s soft shimmery pinkish shade. I started with the rose gold shade and applied it all over my eyelid and blended it up into the crease, concentrating more color on the outer corners. I then applied it underneath my lower lash line. Then with the Honey (gold) color I applied it right over the rose gold on the inner corners of my upper eyelid, and gentle blended the edge with the rose gold.

I finished the look by lining the outer corners of my inner rims with black gel eyeliner from Trish McEvoy, and applying Loreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black. I also used Bobbi Brown Metallic Lip Color in Gilded Pink. I don’t find it to be metallic though, it’s more like a brownish pink. A nice compliment to the rose gold on my eyes.

P.R. Peach Lip Stain

23 Jun

 Product Recommendation

Peach Glaze Lip Stain

by Laura Mercier

I like this lip color, because although it says it’s a stain. It’s really not a stain. It doesn’t stain your lips. But it’s not quite a lipstick either. It has the sheen of a lip gloss, but the coverage and look of a lipstick. It’s marketed as a “Hybrid of stain and gloss formula.” It comes in a clear glass pot so you have to use your finger or a lipstick brush. I used my Baby Bullet Brush from Sunset Blonde Beauty. It is and eyeshadow/lip brush. I have 2 of them, one that I use for eyeshadow, and the other I use to apply this lip color.

So either use a lip brush, or press the lip color into lips with fingertips. If using a Lip Brush, here is what I do: swirl the brush in the lip product to get it on the brush then gently press onto lips to achieve “stained” appearance, or swipe over lips for more coverage. You can apply this product very lightly, which is why I think they call it a stain, but if you apply it thicker with a lip brush, it’s more like a glossy lipstick. The peach shade is a nice nude color for me.  I love it!!

Coconut Oil: NEW FAVORITE BEAUTY SECRET

20 Jun

My NEW FAVORITE Beauty Secret!

COCONUT OIL!!!

Pressed from the fruit of the coconut palm tree, not only is this oil super healthy to eat, but it has amazing uses for the outside of your body as well.

Coconut oil can be used as a skin moisturizer, helping with dry skin and reduces protein loss when used in hair. The best part is that it is natural and without a bunch of chemicals in it. I am loving it right now because my hair and skin are always so dry and I love that I can use just one natural product to moisturize both my skin and hair. I bought the Organic Virgin Coconut Oil that comes in a jar from Trader Joe’s. They sell it in the oil section.

This is what coconut oil looks like inside the jar, in a white solid form.

The interesting thing about coconut oil is that it is in a solid form at first. A white solid, and turns into a clear liquid when slightly warmed up. It’s really interesting that it melts into a liquid with the warmth from your hand and body. So you can scoop some into the palms of your hand and rub together and apply to your face, body, or hair.

I’ve been using it on my face in place of a moisturizer at night and before applying my makeup in the morning for a week now and it hasn’t made me break out, and doesn’t make me too oily. If you aren’t too sure about wearing it under your makeup then try just applying it as a night moisturizer. It is great to use just around your delicate eye area as a moisturizer if you are worried about putting an oil on your face, or if you already have oily skin.

I love using it as a body moisturizer, just warm it between your palms and apply it. It also is great after the shower, it soaks in nicely to damp skin.

For my hair I apply it to the ends before blow drying, and they apply more to the ends before using a curling iron or flat iron. It soaks in nicely to my hair and as long as you don’t apply too much, it looks natural and shiny on your ends without looking greasy. Once in a while at nighttime I will apply a good amount to the ends of my hair and put it in a bun to condition it while I sleep, then shampoo and condition in my morning shower as usual.

Other uses:

Use it as a lip balm, hand moisturizer, cuticle oil, shaving oil, add to your bath for moisturizing, as a foot moisturizer, post shower body moisturizer, deep conditioning for hair, as a hair serum, to remove water proof mascara and eye makeup. I’m sure there are a bunch of other creative ways to use it, but that’s just to name a few.

I wanted to have this new amazing love of mine in a smaller to-go size for travel and to easily take with me to photo shoots if I need it, so I got creative this morning. Here is what I did.

I used a mini shampoo bottle that I got from a hotel visit recently. I couldn’t find a small jar in my house, but that would work well too. I chose to use this bottle because the mouth of the bottle was large enough that I could stick my finger in and scoop out the coconut oil if in it’s solid form, and it was for shampoo as it’s prior contents, which I was pretty sure good enough to prevent leaks for when the oils was in the liquid form.

Great tip***  When visiting hotels, even if you don’t like the product inside the mini bottles, take the bottles with you anyways and use them to fill with your own favorite beauty products for travel. I do this all the time, and keep extra ones around for new products or for making my own. I relabel them with my own labels, and remove the original labels*** How to remove the labels? Keep reading….I answer this at the end of this post for you.***

This is the mini shampoo bottle that I decided I wanted to put a travel sized amount of coconut oil in. It has been rinsed, cleaned, and dried

This is the jar of coconut oil, with the oil in it’s solid white form.

Using a butter knife scoop out the coconut oil in small amounts and fill the to-go container.

This is me filling the smaller container.

This is the to-go container filled with the coconut oil in it’s solid white form

This is what the coconut oil looks like in it’s clear liquid form. I just put it up to the hair dryer on a low heat setting and shook it gently a few times until it was all melted.

Now I have a smaller travel- sized container of coconut oil. I can keep the larger one in the kitchen for cooking, so when transferring be careful not to contaminate it in any way. (Liquid form in the small container, solid in the larger container.)

The smaller to-go container from the top view.

To remove the shampoo labels from the bottle, Heat up the label with a hair dryer, and peel off while still warm.

By using the hair dryer to heat up the label, this should also remove the sticky part with the label as you peel. So if it isn’t coming off, blow more heat on it with the hair dryer.

Viola! Coconut Oil by Sunset Blonde!! Lol.

In this photo: I used it as a facial moisturizer and as a hair serum on the ends of my hair and to tame fly-aways for my photo shoot.

Please feel free to share your thoughts, uses, opinions and questions about coconut oil!

Beauty Shopping

20 Jun

Here is where I mainly go to buy my beauty products:

Ulta

Where I buy a lot of my drugstore brand products, fragrances, my curling irons, and salon products such as nail polish and hair products. I buy them here. Because they have a points program with membership for anyone, frequently offer coupons, discounts, and sales. I also like them because they have drugstore brands and prestige cosmetics in one location. They also sometimes will give you free samples if you know to ask for them upon checkout.

Sephora

I don’t get a discount here, but I like some of the Sephora brand products, as well as some of the newer beauty products on the market. They will also take back any returns so if makeup breaks or isn’t the right color they accept your return easily.

Namies

12640 Riverside Drive, Valley Village, CA 91607

As a professional makeup artist I shop here for supplies for my makeup kit, and I get 20-40% off of the makeup brands that they carry. Anyone can go in this store, but you need proof that you are a makeup artist to get the discount. They also carry makeup forever products which I love, and I get 40% off of.

Cinema Secrets

4400 Riverside Drive  Burbank, CA 91505

(818) 846-0579

This is where I buy beauty products for my kit as well as my favorite concealers and I love their brand of cream foundation.

Walmart
They have some of the best prices for the same things that you can get at the drugstores. I always stock up on the Banana Boat Summer Color Self-tanner in Deep Dark color at Walmart because it’s usually around only $6. I also buy my favorite mascara there the Loreal voluminous mascara.

Amazon.com
A great place to find beauty products for a lot cheaper, such as some of the bronzes/self tanners that I like to use. Just make sure you check the ratings and who you are buying from.

Beauty.com
A great way to buy beauty and drugstore brands that you are familiar with already. If you want to stock up, or avoid making a trip to the store for products you already love, this is a great way to online shop.

Saks Fifth Avenue

Has a few brands that the other beauty stores don’t, some of the higher end makeup lines like that I like including Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Kevyn Aucoin.

Where do you mainly shop for beauty products? Tell me what your favorites are, and where you buy them?

Day 4: Hawaii Polo Match + Trish McEvoy Makeup

14 Jun

On our day off here in Hawaii we got invited to a Polo Match! This was very exciting for me, since I’ve never seen a polo match, other than in the movie Pretty Woman.

Me watching the polo match

I am going to share with you some of the fun details of this event, where it was, what I wore, etc.  But what I really want to share with you is the free makeup that I received in the gift bags! Because you know me, I love beauty!

Makeup by Trish McEvoy!

A little bit about the polo match:

The Invitation to the Polo Match

The polo field is gorgeous and located right on the beach of Oahu’s beautiful North Shore. To see more, visit their website at http://hawaii-polo.org/

This is what the polo match looked like.

Apparently every polo Sunday you can watch the best players and ponies in the state and from around the world play the ‘sport of kings.’ The gates open at noon on Sundays and games start around 2 pm.

It all started with the pony parade and then moved on to the polo game with exciting half-time activities including skydive stunts and a fashion show! It was sponsored by Mercedes and Porche, so they had the brand new cars drive out onto the field in the opener with the horses!

For all the VIP attendee’s the dress code was ALL WHITE!

We arrived early, so the tables are still empty, but as you can see, every thing is white themed in the VIP area!

How fun? I love white parties, and never wear white because it always gets dirty so fast, so I think for special occasions that it’s great! I wore a big floppy hat that my wonderful friend Katerina Van Derham gave me for my birthday, and attached a white flower to it.

For my outfit, I wanted to wear something sophisticated yet girlie and cute . . .

So I wore a white silk blouse from Banana Republic paired with a blush colored tulle skirt from H&M. I figured since the pink was so light, that it would still look kind of white, and yet, frilly and girlie.

I wore tan wedges from Aldo that are comfortable and wedges are easier to walk around on the grass in. I bought these wedges last year, and they still sell them here: online.  I love them because they are super comfortable & go with so many outfits for summer!

ALDO T-strap sandal in Cognac $70.00

For my accessories I wore my right hand rings for sparkle,  along with cheapy pearl & gold bead bracelets that I got from Forever21 on my left wrist, a Chanel gold and pearl necklace & Chanel mother of pearl CC earrings to class it up! ;)

I bought this vintage white leather waist belt years ago, but never quite found the perfect outfit to pair it with. Luckily, I never got rid of it because finally I had the perfect outfit for it! It cinched the blouse around my waist nicely and pulled the outfit together.

I wanted a small purse because I knew that I would be carrying it around all day, so I brought my small Gucci purse. I loved that my purse had pink leather around the zipper and straps to match with the pink skirt with gold details to match my jewelry!

Me and some of the girls before arriving at the match:

And now, THE MAKEUP!
Upon leaving the event, VIP guest were given a gift bag. To my favor, it was MAKEUP! I got super excited and pulled it all out to see what it was right away! I got a Lipstick Crayon, Eyeliner, and Lip balm from Trish McEvoy.
When I got back to my room, I looked up Trish McEvoy because I had heard the name before, but wasn’t familiar with any of the brand’s products. I looked up the products that I had been given and here’s what I found.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Essential Pencil-Baby Pink
I tried this pencil right away on my lips. I got it in BABY PINK color, but it was more of a shimmery medium pink. Nice, but not as natural as I had hoped for. But I would love to try some of the other colors, they look really nice, and this lip pencil went on smooth and moisturizing. I love that they suggest that this can also be used on cheeks as a cream blush, because I think this shade would be perfect for that use. I would just use this as a lipstick, but if you have to use it as a liner, at least it’s big enough to deter you from making the obvious lip liner mistake.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Beauty Booster Lip Balm SPF 15
I love that this lip balm has Spf 15 in it, I love products that aid in anti aging! Since I’m in Hawaii where it’s gorgeous outside, I’ve been needing a spf for my lips, so this one is perfect. It smelled and felt a lot like Carmex brand lip balms, but I like this tube container better. It is easier and more girly to apply this way. A great free gift!
____________________________________________________________________________________
On the Trish McEvoy website I found a video on how to apply this GEL eyeliner, she explained that it is good to use right in the lash line by lifting the upper eyelid up and making small dots and connecting them. The eyeliner that I received did not have the little smudger tip on the opposite end of the pencil like the full size does, I think mine was more of a sample size. But I tried using it in a similar manor and it applied really well. The pencil is smooth and richly pigmented. I applied it before flying home to Los Angeles, and it was still on and in place when I landed. This was my favorite makeup item that I received in the gift bag.

Self Esteem & Beauty Routine

13 Jun

“I love the confidence that makeup gives me.”-Tyra Banks

”Makeup is a way for a woman to look and feel like herself, only prettier and more confident.” – Bobbi Brown

Beauty Routine for Confidence:
My fiance is always wondering why I insist on needing 2 hours to get ready. He typically just wants me to continue cuddling with him, but I need to hop up and start doing my thing.

I know how ridiculous it sounds for it to take 2 hours to get ready to go somewhere. And, of course, I have my extremely shortened versions when I need to go somewhere fast, I can get out the door in no time!

But for me, my beauty routine is a time for me to be creative and relax, it is my everyday therapy & meditation time.  I need enough time, so I don’t feel rushed, so that I can take the time to feel beautiful.

According to an Allure Magazine survey, “97 % of women say they feel more confident when they use their favorite beauty products.” I’m not encouraging you to go out and constantly spend money on beauty products, I’m simply sharing with you what helps me feel good. What helps me feel good, is taking the time to care for myself and beautifying myself.

Recently, one of my beautiful girl friends has been going through a really rough time with her self-esteem and confidence. Looking at her you would wonder why, because she is gorgeous, super talented, and has a really sweet heart. I think everyone struggles with this at some point in their lives. Feeling bad about yourself, feeling like you aren’t good enough, pretty enough, comparing themselves to others. PLEASE DON’T do that to yourself. Even I have insecurities and days where I don’t feel pretty, but I don’t let it eat at me. It can destroy you. You are who you are, and you need to accept that. Luckily, there are things that you can do to help.

Here is what I do on those days, and I do a little bit of this everyday for myself. . . I find that it helps in some way to spend some time on myself. It’s sort of an anti-insecurity day, by shopping for new makeup, hair products, by simply applying my makeup in a new way, doing my nails, spa treatments, a new hair cut, etc. Taking the time to do these things for yourself can boost your confidence. They really do help a little bit with feeling good about yourself. Obviously, it won’t solve all of your problems, those are within and mentally you need to work on it, but I think that when you do something of this nature, it can put you in a better mental state and in the right direction.

So, back to what I was telling you about my friend, she called me up right before I was leaving town for Hawaii and asked me if when I’m back from my trip, if I could go with her to help her pick out some new makeup and help her update her beauty routine. She said that she thought it might help with the way she feels. Of course, I got excited and told her yes! I love to help my friends and I love makeup! It really got me thinking about what I do to have good self esteem, and I realized that the majority of it is spending the time to look good, which helps me to feel good.  I think that she is being so smart about trying to help herself feel better.

As a kid, my parents would set me up at the crafts table to do an art project. I would be sitting there quiet for hours coloring in shrinky dinks, molding animals out of fimo clay, or tracing Fashion Plates. I have graduated this need for creativity and focused it on myself. Every time I put on makeup I try different colors, techniques and styles. It is my grown up version of this kind of creativity. Not only does it allow me to be creative, but I feel good about focusing on myself, and giving myself some pampering. It is soothing, and makes me feel good about myself. That’s also why I became a Makeup Artist, I love to beautify other women as well. There is something so rewarding about seeing someone else so happy with the way they look. I get so much satisfaction from sharing what I know and love with other women. This is also why I started this blog. ;)

Between satisfying my creative nature and my boosting my self confidence, I end up frequently testing out new makeup and skincare products, figuring out new techniques and ways of achieving beautiful results.  I am mainly self taught when it comes to beauty, trial and error is what I like to do, and I like to share my successes on this blog with you. I encourage you to try the same thing if you so please.

Maybe this sounds stupid to some of you, maybe you don’t need makeup to feel beautiful, or maybe some of you don’t care about being beautiful, and I think that is so great. I’m happy for you. But this is for the women out there in the world that want a little bit of help. This is how I handle it, this is what I do, this is what makes me feel good. So, maybe it will help you too?

Take a little extra time on yourself out of your busy life, organize your makeup collection, shop for new makeup brushes at my online store, or test out one of my How-to’s to start. For those of you that already take your time getting ready, be proud that you find enjoyment in this, recognize this as a good thing, a meditation. Men may never understand why it takes us so long to get ready, and you don’t have to rationalize it. Some “me” time is always good, life is too short, so use your time wisely and be happy.

Love,

Sunset Blonde

MY HAIR TOOLS

12 Jun

I have been getting so many requests for hair tutorials and what I use to do my hair. I haven’t had the chance to to a tutorial video yet, but at the very least I wanted to share which tools I use. Just like with makeup brushes, I believe that if you don’t have the right tools, you wont get the same/best results. Therefore, I figured you girls would be interested to see what I use.

There are 5 main tools that I use almost every time I style my hair. And not just any curling iron or straightener will do. You have to find the right ones. Most girls that I know, don’t use the right curling iron, let alone know how to use it.

THE BRUSHES:

I have 3 brushes that I like to use. A paddle brush (Hot Tools Pink Titanium Paddle Brush) used mainly during blow drying, a round brush (Conair Tourmaline Ceramic Large Round Porcupine Brush) that I use to style my bangs while blow drying, and a TIGI Bed Head Clean Freak Tourmaline “Split Personality Styler” brush that I use when I’m traveling because it is a 2-in-1 brush. Even when I’m at home I will use the SPS instead of the other 2 brushes because it is easier. I love this brush.

Hot Tools Pink Titanium Paddle Brush

Conair Tourmaline Ceramic Large Round Porcupine Brush)

TIGI Bed Head Clean Freak Tourmaline “Split Personality Styler” brush

THE CURLING IRONS:

I also love having a selection of different size curling irons. Seeing them sitting there all lined up and seeing the options! Love. They look so alike, but each one gives a slightly different result, so depending on your mood or the occasion you can be creative in the way you curl your hair.

Now, a curling iron is not just a curling iron. . . I’ve never found a better brand than Hot Tools curling irons. They are well priced, and I recommend trying to buy yours on sale since they go on sale often. For the money, these are the best! What I love about them is not only are they easy to use and affordable, they work very well. What makes them work better than other curling irons? The durability of them, as well as the adjustable heat setting. I highly recommend that you get all of your hair tools with an adjustable heat setting, mine have it, this is important to protect your hair. They also have a few different types of curling irons, in many different sizes.

I have 3 curling irons, but the one I use most frequently is the 1-1/4″ Professional Spring Iron for large, loose curls by Hot Tools. I have it in the classic black & gold, and also the Titanium and Pink. I also have the 1″ Professional Spring Iron for full curls and waves, and the 1-1/2″ Professional Spring Iron for longer hair and creating extra-large, loose curls and waves.

1-1/4″ Titanium Professional Spring Iron for large, loose curls by Hot Tools

1″ Professional Spring Iron for full curls and waves

1-1/4″ Professional Spring Iron for large, loose curls by Hot Tools

1-1/2″ Professional Spring Iron for longer hair and creating extra-large, loose curls and waves

These curling irons have a Soft-Grip™ textured handle, adjustable temperatures up to 430° F (220° C), a powerful spring clamp, Extra-high heat, 24K gold-plated barrel or Titanium surface (on the pink one), Fast heat-up, Heavy-duty long-life heating element, Foldaway safety stand, Extra-long cool tip, 8-ft. heavy-duty tangle-proof swivel cord, & On / Off switch.

I always buy mine from ULTA:

http://search.ulta.com/search?p=Q&userid=Guest&w=hot+tools+curling+iron

THE FLAT IRON:

I have this flat iron in 2 sizes, the 1 inch ($99) and 1.5 inch ($140).

The Croc LED Black Titanium 1″ Flat Iron“Croc Classic Titanium iron has 1″ plates for easy styling of all hair lengths. Ceramic heating elements provide effortless styling, healthy shiny hair, quick heat recovery. Provides negative ions to seal in moisture. Auto 30 minute shut off and 4 heat settings from 280* to 450* for long lasting styles. Smooth titanium plates.”

The Croc LED Black Titanium 1″ Flat Iron

The Croc Regular Black 1.5″ Flat Iron

Croc Classic Titanium for all keratin treatments 1″ Black Titanium Plates for easy styling. “Croc Classic Titanium iron has 1 1/2″ plates for easy styling on long hair. Ceramic heating elements provide effortless styling, healthy shiny hair and generate far infrared heat and negative ions to seal in moisture. Auto 30 minute shut off and 18 heat settings for all types of hair. Creates silky shiny hair and long lasting styles. “

I love these straighteners and think they are the best. My hair glides though them easily, and when using these on clients I can adjust the heat setting to suit their hair. I always use these on the lowest heat settings of 280 degrees for my fragile hair, but they get as hot as 450 degrees. They have digital adjustable heat settings so you can see exactly what temperature it’s at. It heats up really quickly and has an auto shut off, so you don’t ever accidentally leave it on. (Which I’ve been known to do with my curling irons…I wish those had auto shut off!)
I also bought these flat irons at ULTA.
THE HAIR DRYER:
I am not the most organized person, but I try really hard to be, and so when I am getting ready in the morning and I am styling my hair, I have cords, tools, hairbrushes, styling products all over the counter.  To combat this disaster, when shopping for a new hair dryer I came across the retractable cord kind, and figured that I would try it out. The Conair Cord Keeper 1875 Watt Styler Dryer 241 is the one I ended up getting. There is a similar model if you can’t find the one I have, or if you want it in a different color.  It was so cheap only $20! Not only does the cord disappear with the push of a button, but the dry works fantastic. It has multiple heat settings, and gets really hot which I love. It also has a cool shot, and nozzle attachments. For around $25 it’s a great value. It’s not super quiet, or really fancy, it’s just a hair dryer. But I like the cord feature and it’s a MUST to have a dryer with heat settings.

Hope this helps you girls figure out what tools to use for styling your hair like mine. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask, I always try to personally get back to each comment. Thanks for reading!

Day 2 On Location: Hawaiian Beach Bikini Photo Shoot

11 Jun

Day 2 On Location: Hawaiian Beach Bikini Photo Shoot

Below is a photo of all of the crew setting up the shot. You can see me with my set bag perfecting the model’s hair before she starts shooting.

The weather starting out this morning didn’t go as well as hoped on day 2. Up at 4am to start hair and makeup on the new model, only to get to our location at 6am, and wait around for an hour to see if the sky would clear up  to get some nice sunlight to shoot.

I took a photo of the sky around 6:30am, the sun is just barely visible through the oncoming clouds. The ground below is dark, and there isn’t enough natural light to properly shoot the model with.

Our model of the day was Julia Docherty. She was a great sport running back and forth in and out of the pop up changing tent to stay dry from the rain. Below in a photo of the pop up changing tent. It’s convenient but rare to have a tent like this on location. But it is great for model’s to change inside of when on a public beach for some privacy and rapid outfit changes. Just wanted to show you this because it’s kind of a neat invention that makes on location shoots more comfortable for a model.

Soon after we changed locations to shoot at the Aqua Nui House. This is the photographer’s house that we are staying at. This is a shot of the back of the house, the ocean & beach are the backyard, which makes it a perfect shoot location!

This is the gorgeous model for Day 2, Julia Docherty, a D cup swimsuit model that fills out the Sunsets Inc. swimsuits nicely. She was stunning, and had amazing eyes. In the photo below you can see how I styled her hair and did her makeup for the shoot. I played up her eyes, contoured her cheeks and gave her a nude/natural lip. Her hair was styled with soft beachy curls and sexy side swept bangs. This hairstyle was hard to keep looking fresh and perfect on her because of her fine hair type. 4 touch-ups where required to re-curl her hair throughout the day, and lots of hairspray was used!

Her eyeshadow was a Metallic Eye shadow in a green shade from Bobbie Brown called Sage which I blended into her creases and under the outer corners of her eyes. I used Bone also By Bobbie Brown and blended it onto her lids and brow bone.

In Julia’s hair I added some clip-in hair extensions to keep her hair looking fuller and curled, since hair extensions hold curl really well.

I used a combination of all 3 of these hairsprays throughout the day for controlling frizz and flyways, as well as for hold during re-curling.

Below is a photo of me touching up her hair in between shots, standing behind as shade panel that is known as a scrim. Photographers use a scrim to shade the model from direct sunlight, it’s basically a lighting tool.

She is wearing faux lashes, and Loreal Voluminous Mascara in carbon black, and Kevyn Aucoin The Eye Pencil Primatif in Black on top lashline only and blended.

I applied Makeup Forever HD Foundation in color #123, with a custom powder to set it that I made with yellow undertones to match her tan.

I used MAC Bronzer in GOLDEN under her cheekbones and jawline for contouring with the FANCY CHEEKY BRUSH from SUNSET BLONDE, and Kevyn Aucoin blush in Dolline on her upper cheeks.

Kevyn Aucoin The Pure Powder Glow – Dolline which I find to be the perfect matte apricot shade:

Julia needed a long lasting lip color for her lips so I made a custom color for her from Loreal Infallible Lipsticks in #812 Opulent Organza & #423 Perpetual Peach. These have nice staying power and go on creamy. Both of these colors are great to use by themselves and look great if you want a natural color for many skin tones. #812 is more of a matte berry color, and #423 is a shimmery peachy pink. I think that a combination of the 2 makes a perfect shade.

An on-set trick from Sunset Blonde:  It might look weird, but works great! I like to take a small amount of lipstick with me to go in a Disposable container when on location, instead taking the entire lipstick with me and risking a meltdown in my “on-set” bag in the blazing sun.  I’ve come up with a great idea for those plastic containers that false lashes come in, I smear a small amount of lipstick straight from the tube onto the plastic & Go! This not only keeps my lipsticks sanitary, and from melting, but it allows me to keep a separate tray of lipstick for each model that is portable. Great idea to reuse an item you might normally trash.

At photo shoots there are usually racks of bikinis, stacks of accessories and it can get pretty messy. This company is great in that they neatly hang up the bikinis with matching cover-ups, and attached to the hangers in plastic bags are the accessories nicely matched up for each outfit change that have been selected prior to the shoot day. This organization strategy speeds up the changing time in between shots, and makes it easy for the stylists and models to know what the complete next outfit is. I love it when designers are super organized and time efficient!

As I described in Day 1, I love my on-set bag, so I thought I would take some photos of my actual bag so that you can see me wearing it, and what I am able to fit in it! I like to wear it across my body so that I don’t have to worry about it falling off my shoulder. As you can see, I have a lot of useful items for touch ups, brushes, hairspray, compacts, bug spray, even a favorite of mine… coconut water for hydration.  This bag also makes a great travel toiletry bag for the travel lovers reading this!

By late morning the sun was shining high in the sky and we pushed through a lot of shooting. I had to blur out the model on the far left, so that you can’t see her bikini, because they will not be released until July, so I have to keep them a secret ;)

I will be modeling on day 3 & 4…so stay tuned for more photos and info!

Day 1 On Location: Hawaiian Beach Bikini Photo Shoot

10 Jun

Welcome to the wonderful world of Behind the Scenes via Sunset Blonde. . . I am on location this week in Oahu, Hawaii on the tropical North Shore! We are here with Sunsets Inc, shooting several of their swimwear lines & I am here as a Makeup Artist on some days, and as a model on others!

I will be blogging in a series about each day. Every day is different, with different models, different locations around the Island, different beauty tips from me, and more!

This week will be an adventure, and for those of you that have never been behind the scenes of a photo shoot, my goals is to share it with you! There is lots to tell you about, so let’s get started:

(Above Photo: Sunrise in Oahu the morning of our shoot. We got ready super early and waited for the sun to be just right to start shooting)

On location catalog photo shoots are very difficult. Lots of product to shoot (outfits), with the hassle of the elements. Wind, rain, humidity, sweat & hot sun, ocean, sand can all be factors in ruining a good hair do, or fresh face of makeup. As glamorous as it might look, a lot of work goes into these shoots from many different people. Photographer, several photo assistants, a technology guy, Swimwear designers, Models, Makeup Artists, Marketing department, all flying into an exotic location to create these beautiful images that sell bikinis.

I have worked with Michael Voorhees several times before, and I always love working with him. Professional, efficient, fun, and so talented! I love working behind the scenes, and in front of the camera when he is shooting. He has a great crew which makes our shoots easier and more enjoyable. We are so lucky to be able to shoot here in Hawaii at his gorgeous beach house on the ocean. This is my 3rd time shooting here in Oahu with him, and every time is a honor. See more of Michael’s work at MICHAELVOORHEES.COM  and check out the house we are staying at and shooting at Aquanui.com

Luckily, some products work better than others to combat the elements that you might be faced with, as well as good technique and time for touch ups every once in a while. Here are a few of the great products that I used as a MAKEUP ARTIST on the Models this week in Hawaii for a bikini photo shoot that have with held the test of the “beach photo shoot”

Eyelash curler by Shu Umera. Normally I hate using lash curlers, but on the beach it comes in handy.  A great Lash curler is important to keep the model’s eyes looking open in the bright sunlight. Lashes can tend to look heavy and eyes look closed when the sun is super bright and high in the sky. Model’s with light colored eyes have more sensitivity to the sunlight, so curling their lashes up more helps to make their eyes look open. Photographers and models usually work together to combat this issue by using the “1, 2, 3…. Open your eyes while I shoot for a few seconds” method. This works and gives more successful results.

We started the first day at 4am. I rose and tried to shine at 3;50am to make our gorgeous model of the day even more flawless. Ashley Alexander is a beautiful fashion model that I had the pleasure of doing her makeup and hair. Here is Ashley refreshing with watermelon between shots.

I curled her hair with a flat iron in the fancy-oh-so-impressive way that I do, and pinned it with bobby pins to set it while I did her makeup. I used Rusk Radical Hairspray before curling it, and at the roots to give volume, and I teased her roots at the crown before finishing. Then I used Rusk Being Sexy Hairspray to finish and hold her style.

The wind was a major enemy of ours today. Not the worst I’ve seen at shoots, but facing the wrong direction, the model would get a face full of hair, or it would be sticking up in some wild way. So having a variety of different types of spray is helpful.

Below is a photo of me touching up Ashley’s hair on the beach in between shots.

I like a more natural look when it comes to hair, let it fly and take shots until it works, but today we were pressed for time, and the Boss likes it to be perfect. So the Rusk Being Sexy Hairspray and a brush where my most used tools today. We tried our best to position Ashley  into the wind, so that it worked in our favor as much a possible by blowing her hair away from her face and giving more volume and movement to her hair.

The Set Bag: In the above photo you can see that I have a bag that I am wearing. I carry all my on-set necessities in this cool looking clear and pink messenger tote that I purchased at the LA Makeup Show this summer. Of course, I had to get a pink one! It has an adjustable strap that I can wear comfortably cross-body, and fits everything that I need perfectly. I can carry at least 2 cans of hairspray, a water bottle, brushes, combs, powders, Makeup brushes, lipsticks, Sunblock, bug spray, and much more! It’s easy to find everything inside of it because it’s clear, and it also has individual zipper pockets for the smaller items. I highly recommend this bag for EVERY Makeup Artist. It’s also great for girls that travel or want to be super organized with some of their favorite beauty products. Here is what it looks like up close:

I have the pink one, but it comes in 5 colors for you to choose from:

Today I used all of my fabulous Sunset Blonde Beauty Brushes, plus a few new styles that I just got in to test them out on set and they were AMAZING! I can’t wait to share them with you! As for the ones that are already available, those worked like a dream. Her makeup held up so well, and went on smooth as silk.

I used Makeup Forever HD Foundation, and mixed # 123 & #128 to custom match her skin tone.

To conceal her under eye circles I used Kevyn Aucoin’s  “THE SENSUAL SKIN ENHANCER” MAKEUP in SX07. Which you can read more about it from me here.

I used a custom loose finishing powder that I made to match the more yellow tones in the self tanner she had on her skin, which I applied allover to her face with the FANCY FACE Brush. This brush is also really great for powdering between shots and getting rid of shine, which you can see I did today…

With a MAC Bronzer in Golden I contoured her cheeks using the FANCY CHEEKY Brush, and taking the same brush, used an apricot blush The Pure Powder Glow in Dolline by Kevyn Aucoin to dust over her cheeks and blend down to the contouring for a natural glow and color.

On her lips I used a lipstick from the Kevyn Aucoin Beauty ‘Lip & Cheek – The Corals’ Makeup Palette. The one on the far right… I applied it with the BABY BULLET BRUSH from Sunset Blonde. Not only is this a great brush to use for eyeshadow, but it also makes a great lipstick brush. The small point allows you to be precise, but the softness and fluffiness of it applies lip color smoothly.

I filled in the Model’s blonde eyebrows with a blonde brow powder for a soft effect.  By Elizabeth Arden Dual Perfection Brow Shaper in Blonde with the NEW BROW BEAUTY Brush by Sunset Blonde. This brush has stiff bristles to shape and fill in brows, and is even great for just combing brows into place. Coming soon….

I’m not allowed to show you any of the shots from the photo shoot due to that fact that they haven’t release the new bikinis yet, but Ashley and I played around with her iphone taking some behind the scenes shots of her gorgeous self. You can see her makeup & hair here:

Ashley loved the new Fancy Face Brushes by Sunset Blonde!!!! Get them on SALE at sunsetblonde.com

Today was a great day, we got really lucky with plenty of sunshine. Although the afternoon was pretty scorching. I only had to dust powder on the Ashley’s forehead twice, for which I used a compact of translucent powder by Too Faced “Absolutely Invisible Powder.” for easy touch ups on the go, and is a nice fine powder that keeps makeup looking fresh when dusted on with the FANCY FACE BRUSH.

It’s no wonder they call it TURTLE BAY around here, there were live sea turtles up on the shore that paid us a visit during our photo shoot this afternoon. We even took advantage and shot some photos with the chill creatures.

It was a 13 hour day for me and the model. But we made it through in a gorgeous kind of way with the help of some of my beauty secrets and some miraculous products!!

Gorgeous bikini models, sunshine, sea turtles, palm trees and, makeup…. I love my job…4 more days in paradise. Also check out day #2 blog post of Hawaiian Beach Bikini Photo shoot. I will be Modeling on day 3 & 4!

Love,
