Wildfox is one of my favorite brands of comfy casual clothes. I love the Baggy Beach Jumper sweat shirts, they are so soft, and have all sorts of great graphics and sayings on them. They feel sort of vintage are are completely cozy. Their sweatshirts make great gifts, and are hard to resist sleeping in. I recently discovered their track suits which fit tight and sexy, so I don’t feel like a total bum even though I’m wearing super comfy clothes.

Wildfox About Page

I buy all my Wildfox Clothes from Shopdivine.com – Mainly because I model for their online store and get a discount on everything. But they do have a great selection of Wildfox clothes, with new items every week, and ship internationally as well!

Sometimes I browse Hautelook.com for shopping deals, and I recently got excited about the WildFox accessories that they were selling for really cheap. I couldn’t decide between which color earrings I liked better, so I got both. At only $14.00 for 10k gold plated enamel filled earrings, I figured I would decide which color looked best on me, and could gift the other pair. I also Bought the WildFox Red enamel 10k gold plated heart necklace. I have a red Louis Vuitton bag that I thought this would make another nice red “pop” of color when I wear them together. There were several different scarves available as well, and decided on the Grey Garden Love Potion No. 9 Scarf in Light Pink. Baby pink has been my favorite color to wear lately, super feminine, but subtle.

The only thing I don’t really like about hautelook.com is that it takes FOREVER for them to ship out items, so I haven’t received the accessories yet. Shopdivine.com doesn’t sell any of the Wildfox accessories, but I googled it and found several other locations that you can purchase them from including amazon and ebay.

CoCo & Cashmere = Gorgeous Hair

đź’—”Coco & Cashmere”đź’— is my hair secret!

COCONUT OIL

is amazing for taming frizz & conditioning hair, plus doubles as a natural and great body moisturizer! Instead of using synthetic serums, try natural coconut oil instead. A little goes a long way! (I’ve written more about coconut oil- click here)

Screen Shot 2013-04-14 at 10.11.18 PM

I’m a huge fan of coconut oil, and have been using it for years, as a body moisturizer, cuticle oil, hair defrizzer, deep conditioner, and facial moisturizer.  I love the spray version that just recently became available at Trader Joes, you can also find it at the regular grocery stores. I use it all over my body after a shower by spraying it on and then rubbing it in, then what is left on my hands after rubbing it on my body, I then smooth it on the ends of my hair. It’s easier to apply and less messy than the solid version, you can even keep it in your shower and spray yourself down after showering! The best part is that it’s all natural, and even edible. Why not put something on your body, that you can also put in it?

How are Cashmere Hair Extensions different?

Hair extensions are not just for adding length. You can achieve volume, texture, chemical free color, highlights and color accents all without the use of harsh chemicals. No longer do you have to wait months or even years to have the look and lifestyle you desire.  Cashmere Hair Extensions will give you instant gratification!

webFINAL diagram hair SUPERIOR

Owning a set of Cashmere Hair Extensions, not only saves you THOUSANDS of dollars, but is the easiest and most convenient hair extension system.  Salon applied hair extensions are extremely damaging and over priced. Cashmere Hair Extensions are a one time payment, with the convenience of at home custom application. Cashmere Hair provides the perfect alternative to permanent hair extensions and look even better! This is the ultimate DIY system for even the most inexperienced user, that only takes minutes to put in and seconds to remove. With Cashmere Hair you can have salon quality hair with out spending the time or money.

What is the quality of the hair?

Cashmere Hair is 100% High Quality Cuticle Human Hair. The hair cuticle is facing in the same direction which prevents tangling and matting. This High Quality Hair allows for better blending with your own hair and gives the appearance of natural, healthy looking hair.

What really makes our hair extensions the BEST is our gentle dying process, which takes up to 9 – 12 days.  Other 2 day processes, which rapidly dye hair using heavy acid and chemicals, cause damage to the hair. This heavy chemical processing causes hair to loose vital moisture and nutrition. Instead, our process of dying is a very slow process which is the least damaging to hair and gives you the healthiest quality hair, allowing your hair extension to look their best longest. We take the quality of our product very seriously, which is why we set ourselves apart from other companies on a completely different level of quality & authenticity. We have our strands laboratory tested and certified to be 100% Cuticle human hair, the highest quality available.

Other companies mask the harsh chemical process by using silicone to disguise the bad quality of the hair to make it feel silky when you first purchase it. After a few shampoos you might notice that the coating come off, and true nature of the quality is revealed.

webLTPINKSBS-0542a1LIGHTPINKDRESS

Will Cashmere Hair Extensions damage my hair and how long my extensions last?

No damage will occur, and unlike traditional salon extensions. Cashmere Hair Extensions should last you anywhere between 6 to 12 months, with proper care and maintenance. Clip-in Hair Extensions can be reapplied and styled daily. If using a curling iron or flat iron, we recommend first styling your own hair, and then styling the clip-ins similarly before clipping in. Although, we always recommend using the least possible heat styling while getting the most uses out of the hair before rewashing. It is not necessary to wash your extensions after every use. Keep in mind, just like our own hair, any type of heat wears on the hair in time. These tips will save your own hair & extensions from extra unnecessary heat styling damage. Tip: Always try and treat your hair extensions with lots of love!

Can I dye Cashmere Hair Extensions?

Cashmere Hair Extensions are made of real hair just like your natural hair. It is always recommended to see one of our trained professional hair stylist or a professional you trust to assist you with any changes that you would like made to your hair extensions.  Please choose the hair extension color that is closest to your natural hair color, we do not recommend dying the hair extensions, since many of them have already been specially dyed. Our goal is to supply you with the best quality hair extensions possible, and we have a very special dying process that keeps the hair in the healthiest condition. Further dying could damage the hair if not done by our professionals.

Will Cashmere Hair Extensions be visible, will people be able to tell I’m wearing them?

No, Cashmere Clip-in Hair Extensions should not be visible. The beauty of Cashmere Hair Clip-extensions is that they make achieving the look of gorgeous hair naturally. Once fitted they are a perfect blend with your own hair. They provide unlimited versatility with a natural look and feel. Our clip-in system is suggested to be worn low on your head making it easy to disguise and blend with your own hair. Part of the secret of wearing hair extensions is blending your hair extensions into your natural hair for the most discrete & natural look.

Will Cashmere Hair Extensions stay in my hair, without slipping out?

These hair extensions make having the look of gorgeous hair easy, fast and comfortable. With in minutes you will have the gorgeous hair you’ve always wanted. Specially designed small silicone pressure clips allow these hair extensions to be put in and taken off in just minutes and without the worry of sliding or snapping open. Our hair extensions are undetectable and natural looking when inserted properly. No teasing is necessary prior to clipping into hair for most hair types.

Will Cashmere Hair Extensions work with very thin hair?

If you have very thin hair, Cashmere Hair will definitely be the perfect match for your desirable look. Depending on the severity of the thinning of your hair, you will need enough hair to lie over the top weft to cover it. Backcombing the hair above the top weft can help disguise easier. Ideally you would want your hair to be at least 6 inches long for best results.

What is the length of Cashmere Hair Extensions?

Cashmere Hair Extensions are 18″-20″ long (47cm-49cm). When worn in the recommended application they automatically layer themselves giving you a more natural look.

What color do I choose?

When choosing a color to match your own hair, choose a color that matches your hair from the middle to the ends. Never choose the hair color of your “roots” as that is always darker. The color match blend for your hair will be from your middle length to ends. So choosing a color closest this area of your hair will give you the best results. If your unique hair color is not available in our color chart, the best options is to place a custom order with Cashmere.

Behind the Scenes-Very Sexy Photoshoot with Sunset Blonde

17 Nov

Recently, I did a photoshoot to get some new photos to update my portfolio. I wanted new photos because my bangs had grown out significantly, and my hair color is different too, going back to my natural shade.

I had been wanting to shoot again with one of my favorite photographers, Mike Prado for a few months. We had been trying to plan a good time to shoot and he called me the night before asking to fill in to shoot with him at a studio he rented because the other model cancelled. I jumped at the opportunity! Mike is very talented and totally professional, and I’ve always enjoyed shooting with him. He is excellent at lighting and composition. He photos are so good, they honestly don’t need retouching or post production! And just to show you, I am showing you some shots (below) straight from the camera screen!

Given that this shoot was last minute, I threw together some sexy clothes/lingerie, accessories and shoes to style it myself. I got inspired by a photos of Rosie Huntington from an issue of Maxim, and tore them out and brought with to the shoot. I wanted this to be a very sexy shoot.  I choose mostly black and white clothing items, and some of my favorite accessories, to keep it simple. Mike is excellent at lighting, he really balances all of the light so that it hits you perfectly, making you look flawless and gorgeous! So I knew that I didn’t need much to make this shoot successful.

We did 2 looks. One white look, on a set bed with white sheets, gold head board, a few turquoise pillows and tulle. I wanted it to be really soft and sexy, like my inspiration tears, so I wore white lingerie, and some of them were implied.  The second look was against a glossy black painted wall with a leather bench. For this look I made my eye makeup darker, and my lip color lighter/paler, to give it more of an edgy/sexy look. I wore black lace lingerie, and a black leather fringe vest with black booties. I then wanted to ditch the vest and booties, and put on some sexy strappy Jimmy Choos.

Here’s a shot of the clothes I brought to the shoot:

Several lingerie options, a white silk shirt, a black silk button-up, a black leather fringe vest, and a cozy sweater. I only shot in about half of the stuff I brought with.

I kept the shoes simple, and brought only 3 pairs. My dressy satin Louboutins with the bow and chunky heel, super high strappy black suede Jimmy Choos, and some black booties from Steve Madden.

I did my own makeup and hair before arriving at the shoot, and only needed to do touch ups for the first look. I easily changed the makeup for the second look by just adding eyeliner along the waterlines on top and bottom eyelids, and I changed the lipstick to a very pale nude shade. I wore this look against a black background with black lingerie, and a black leather fringe vest.

This was my makeup station at the studio, I also had my accessories and “inspiration tears” also spread out on the table. We also used the makeup station as a backdrop for some of the photos, which came out great! Mike is so creative!

The magazine spread of Rosie Huntington that inspired my shoot:

A close up of some of the accessories that I brought to the shoot. I only ended up using the gold hoop earrings, and the bronze bangles, along with my Right Hand Rings.

Some of the makeup and tools I used for this photoshoot, of course you can see all of the SUNSET BLONDE Makeup Brushes I used! These two in front are from the new HOLLYWOOD HIDEF Collection coming soon to Sunsetblonde.com.  They are synthetic bristles, that are extremely soft and high quality, perfect for achieving my flawless look!

Real Pearls in Fresh’s Face Luster

29 Oct

I’ve been using Fresh’s Face Luster for over a year now. I keep a compact in my purse, and one at my makeup vanity. When I’m not at a photoshoot, I’ve found it to be the quickest, easiest and most flawless face makeup I’ve ever found. It allows for great coverage because it’s a mineral powder, which I love to use to even out my skin tone, and cover any flaws. I also love the great coverage in a powder form because it is easier to apply than a liquid foundation. It photographs really well, making me look like I’ve been airbrushed.

The most unique quality about this makeup, and what makes it so different, is that it contains crushed pearls!  The crushed pearls in the pressed powder leaves my skin with a natural healthy glow, it’s not sparkly.

I wear it in Sandy Lane, and sometimes wear a light dusting of bronzer over it to darken it up if I’m tanner. It comes with a round sponge which is really easy for on-the-go touch ups, and can also be applied with a makeup brush. I have bought it from Sephora, and directly from the Fresh store, it’s sold out often, so I usually buy 2 at a time.  It’s $45 for a compact, comes in 7 colors, and also contains antioxidants A & E.. It is kind of expensive, but I think it’s so worth it! I’ve never found another face makeup like it. I wish it came in more colors for you ladies, but the shades that they do have are pretty versatile. If you are lucky enough to find your shade, it’s a great face makeup to own.

Here is a list of the ingredients:

Sunset Blonde’s Hair Color

7 Aug

I get my hair dyed at a Beverly Hills salon called Fringe Salon on Brighton Way.

It’s a new salon, and has the cutest black, white and purple decor, with a black chandelier, and Oribe hair products. My stylist is Melissa Barone.

I recently got asked on instagram by @mmchado872: “What colors do you ask for when you get your hair done?? I love your blonde pretty natural looking hair :)

So, I asked my hair stylist what she does on my hair. . . and this is what she replied:

” I can’t really tell you much about the color I use, because it changes all the time. I basically do a partial highlight working with the natural tone of your hair so that it creates a soft pale yellow with lighter ends. A very thin highlight throughout and a little thicker in depth on the top to show more prominent highlights.”

I usually go into the salon with an idea of what I want her to do. Since I have been dying my hair blonder for the past few years, I can usually explain to her what I want done. She also takes a look at my hair, and tells me what she thinks. Lately, I’ve been trying to get back to my natural color, and to get rid of the damage that dying my hair has done.

Now, everyone’s hair is different. Different color, different texture, is affected differently by color, so it is really hard to tell you exactly how I get my color. Part of my color is my natural hair color now, which is a dark blonde. I tend to get a little strawberry color in it too sometimes. Lately, I have just been requesting for her to give me blonde highlights. Sometimes she does them thicker, and sometimes she does them thinner, to keep my natural color blended. She also said that she gives me thicker highlights on the top of my head so that it appears more blonde, and that’s where the sun naturally hits. But my roots are still darker than my ends, because my ends don’t have any of my natural color blended in. Here is a photo of what my roots look like:

I do like, and request her to give me highlights around my hairline all the way around my head. I don’t like the drastic look when you put your hair in a ponytail, where you can see the highlights stop because they are only on the top of your head. I get highlights throughout.

Sunset Blonde’s Staying in Shape Tips

3 Aug

(above bikinis are by Have Faith Swimgerie)

Staying in shape for me has been relatively easy throughout my life. I know I’m very lucky that I don’t need to diet & that I am naturally fit. I used to be really skinny when I was younger, I was even made fun of and I got asked if I was anorexic a lot. I hated that everyone always asked me if I eat. Of course I eat!

As I got older, I grew to understand that because I was skinny & sort of pretty that I could have a shot in the modeling industry. After I graduated with a B.A. from college, I decided that I wanted to take a serious attempt at modeling. And that’s where I began.

I feel very fortunate to have the body and high metabolism that I do. Because when I want to splurge for fast food or dessert, it won’t effect the way my body looks. Although, I do care very much about my health and eating healthy. So on a regular basis, I eat healthy and a well balanced diet. I believe that it not only helps me feel good, but adds to my overall health, I want to live a long healthy life, so I make good choices. I like to look in shape, not too skinny or too thick, so there are several things that I do to stay in shape and stay fit. I am by no means a professional in fitness or health, I just wanted to share with you what I do.

(above photo: are the high-waisted bikini bottoms by Have Faith Swimgerie)

My main secrets for staying in shape are these 4 things:

1. Eat smaller portions

I can eat a lot, as I’m sure most of you can. But we all shouldn’t! I eat out a lot being on the road for work & for date nights, and restaurants always, always, always serve extra large portions. They give you so much food, and we are conditioned to feel guilty for not cleaning our plates. It is way to easy, and totally acceptable to over eat. We are so used to over eating that if we don’t over eat we don’t feel full. A normal portion size of food looks like a miniscule amount of food that won’t come close to filling you up, as compared to what we are conditioned to eat. You need to condition yourself to eat smaller portions. This will take time, but it can be done. When you are used to eating a smaller portion, it will fill you up, you will get the nutrition that you need, and you will feel satisfied instead of “stuffed.”

Honestly, I barely finish half a plate of food from a restaurant. I usually split a dish with my fiance, and I eat a smaller portion of it than he does, since he weighs more than I do.

Eating a smaller portion of food, makes it ok to also eat more frequently if you feel the need to.

Eating a smaller portion keeps my stomach from feeling bloated, and allows me to easily tighten my stomach muscles without feeling uncomfortable while I’m modeling.

2. Eat Healthy, Real Foods

Most people have no idea what is good for them to eat and what is bad. I always stick to natural foods as much as possible. I also really like natural foods that you don’t need to cook. Don’t get me wrong, I love to cook, but fruits and salads are always a healthy choice and don’t need cooking, which makes them really easy to whip up quickly and eat. I do always cut up my fruits and vegetables into smaller more enjoyable eats. Fruit salads and vegetable salads are so healthy and yet so simple.

I also love meat. I try to only cook it with olive oil or coconut oil and garlic or spices.

Quinoa is my favorite grain, the highest in protein and adds to all kinds of dishes. I make a really amazing salad with plain cooked and chopped chicken, strawberries, blueberries, avocado, raspberries, spinach, and quinoa. Just adding a minimal amount of Italian dressing from Trader Joe’s.

I love Trader Joe’s. I am lucky to have one located right across from where I live, which makes it my main grocery store and so convenient. I love it because it is smaller than a regular grocery store and they have less options, but healthier choices. I tend to buy eggs, fruits, vegetables, nuts/dried fruit, healthy dairy, and meats only. No junk food, no crap.

3. Be Routine

Routine may seem boring to you, but routine is important. This is something I learned from my fiance that has also aided both of us in healthy eating. When I first met him, I noticed and thought it was weird that he always ate different versions of the same things. He ate mostly chicken, egg whites, vegetables and fruits, and oatmeal. He was in AMAZING shape, muscles, a perfect six pack, and he’s in his late 30′s. He always made the same selections, oatmeal or egg whites, a chicken breast and fruit for breakfast. Chicken and vegetables for lunch and dinner, and sometimes an occasional steak, fish or sushi. He rarely ever ate carbohydrates or dairy, he didn’t completely avoid it, but it was never his first choice. I try to do the same thing now, it makes so much sense!

(A example of a snack: Carrot Juice and blueberries.)

Not only did he always make the same choices when ordering food, he also made the same selections at the grocery store when we would go grocery shopping together. Instead of buying just one of the item, he would put 3 or 4 of the same item into the cart. I thought it was weird, because for me, I always shopped for variety, I always shopped for new items, or things that I could experiment to cook with. I’ve learned that buying one container of raspberries for example, gets eaten after a day or 2, and then you don’t have anymore. So buying 3 cartons of raspberries allows you to eat a little everyday, and lasts for a week. It is also easy to know what to eat when you don’t have too many choices. I love keeping fresh berries & bananas, easy to make a yummy fruit salad with for a snack or to accompany a meal. Fresh vegetables that come cut up or that you cut up immediately getting home from the store, helps you to have snacks and quick veggies to grab to dip in hummus or dressing.

Here is a photo of a few things in our shopping cart, obviously we haven’t finished with our grocery shopping, but I wanted to show you a photo of the consistency/routine, and some of the things that we buy. We also added spinach, baby greens, chicken, quinoa, avocados, a mixed bag of veggies, kale, peanut butter, hummus, coconut water, carrot juice, vanilla soy milk, green tea, bananas, mangos, and a few other things. . .

I love to make Kale chips, my fiance HATES them. But I love them as a freshly prepared snack.

Things we drink: water, sparkling water, fruit water, hot green tea, iced tea, coffee, carrot juice, grapefruit juice, orange juice and coconut water. We stay away from artificial sports drinks and sodas.

Do your research and start by making a list of the healthy foods that you would like to keep you your home. Don’t keep the junk foods, or desserts in your home. Only splurge on them once is a while for a special occasion when out. And try to make your healthy food choices starting at the grocery store, and be routine about your choices. I like to start in the produce section and get a good amount of food there. Fruits, veggies, proteins, oatmeal, whole grains, and low fat dairy or soy as your main purchases.

4. Workout

I don’t just make healthy food choices, I also work out. My fiance works out 2 times a day, because he is an early riser. He does his cardio in the morning before he goes to work, and weight lifting in the evening. I join him in the evenings 2-3 times a week. He goes almost every day. I do his weight lifting routines with him, modifying some exercises because I can’t lift as much weight as him.

I recommend group fitness, taking classes at your local gym, or working out with a friend. It can be hard to get motivated, that’s why being routine with working out is important as well. By signing up for a class, committing to working out with a friend, or doing it the same time every day/other day, will help you stay fit. I’m lucky, and have my fiance to push me to go to the gym, especially when I’m feeling tired or unmotivated.

You should also choose a gym that is conveniently located to your work or home. I workout right at the gym across the street from where I live, so I can walk to it. You can also spend your money on a personal trainer to teach you a workout to suit your body and needs. It’s better to spend your money on a healthy fit body, than a new pair of shoes or an expensive new purse, isn’t it?

I hope these things help. They are not anything new, or innovative, but sometimes when you just make some smart choices and small changes in your life it can make a huge difference?

Here is a little extra motivation/suggestions that I came across and wanted to share with you:

(Notice here at the bottom of this picture it gives you a simple way to measure a serving? 1 palm for meat, 2 palms for vegetables. )

Sunset Blonde’s Bra Secret

7 Jul

These are what I call my “sticky boobs.” Since I have real boobs I need a little help in the cleavage department. When I’m modeling I also need a bra that I can wear with ANY style top or dress. The first time I saw these was when I was on set visiting a friend that was on the TV show “Deal or No Deal.” Since the girls where always wearing some sort of cleavage showing dress, these bras where a must-have for most of the girls.  I was a little confused, by these at first. They do what? Stick to my boobs? How? Really? And they look weird!?

They stick to your skin with a reusable adhesive layer and there are no straps and no back, which makes it possible to wear them with any style top. Even a sheer tops can be worn with these since they come in a skin toned silicone cup (for added size), or an un-padded nude cloth material (for girls that don’t need padding).

I need to be fast with changing outfits because I shoot for a lot of catalogs/online stores where lots of merchandise needs to be photographed in the most efficient amount of time possible. Changing my bra for each outfit is not practical nor efficient, and it’s a really huge pain for me to have to do. The sticky boobs make my job and changing so much easier. Plus they make my girls look so much better in photos! ;)

I originally ordered them from Nu Bra brand, but have since found them for so much cheaper at Target in the lingerie section. I like both styles of sticky boobs and wear both for different occasions.

I wear these at almost every photo shoot that I do! And I wanted to share this modeling secret of mine with you!

They are totally reusable and the stickiness lasts quite a long time. Now, since I wear mine often, (every time I shoot) I go through them pretty quickly. I wash it with hand soap and water every so often, and the stickiness usually lasts me a few months. For normal wear I would guess it would last you twice as long. I go through about 3 a year because eventually the lose their adhesive qualities. I am always wearing bronzing lotions- which isn’t good for the adhesive, so I don’t recommend it.

To wash them:

Take the cup of your Bra in the palm of your hand and slightly moisten the adhesive surface of the bra with a small amount of soapy, warm water. Avoid using moisturizing soaps, or other types of soap that contain oils/ lotions. I like to use dish soap.
Apply a lather over the bra adhesive, working with your fingers in small circular motions until you have covered the whole sticky surface of the bra with soap. Do not scratch off the adhesive.
To finish rinse the bra with warm water until clean. Shake the bra cups to remove all the excess water and place it on its original purchase tray to air dry.

The only issue I ever run into with these is when I’m on a location shoot and I get really hot, and start to sweat. If you are a sweaty person, or are going to wear them when it’s really hot out, don’t! They will fall right off! With any sweat or moisture between the adhesive and your skin, the stickiness will not work.

They also make them now in fancier styles, like lace, and in different colors if you want one a little sexier than just nude. They also make darker ones for different skin tones. You can buy them at nubra.com. I don’t like the layout of their website very much, it’s hard to navigate around and looks kind of amateur, but I have ordered some from there and I was very happy with my purchases.

Here are a few examples from a recent photo shoot where I am wearing them.

I’m wearing the sticky boobs with these dresses, and it gives me more cleavage and there are no visible straps.

I’m wearing them under this see-through top:

And I’m also wearing them under this dress with the strappy back:

With all of these top styles it would be difficult to wear them with a normal bra, or even a strapless bra. So next time you need a bra solution for a top or dress that you can’t wear a normal bra with, consider this option!

A few months ago I did an Ad Campaign for Vanna K Jewelry. Here are a few on the images from the campaign. I did my own hair and makeup for this shoot, and kept it very natural and elegant. I loved trying on all the fabulous jewels and sparkly diamonds! OMG!

This is a Behind the Scenes shot from the photo shoot at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles.

Photos by Kenny Sweeny.

From the Vanna K Blog:

“Vanna K is the home of today’s most unique collection of micro-pave diamond engagement rings. Representing style, elegance and high-quality, their attention to detail on their one-of-a-kind designs make each piece a wearable work of art.

Inspired by femininity and art deco design, Vanna K’s exclusive designs are classic and truly represent timeless elegance. Vanna K is all about fulfilling a woman’s desire to feel beautiful, ethereal and loved. The finished designs combine the feeling of royalty, using large high-quality sparkling diamonds and the feeling of truly individual style, using the many intricate details of each design.

Here you see just one example of their vintage-inspired hand-crafted engagement rings. This ring, from their Solea Collection, features a gorgeous 6 carat emerald-cut center diamond. While that diamond could stand alone as a regal piece, a Vanna K design doesn’t stop there. The center is beautifully complemented with an additional 1.75 carats of round diamonds encircling it, and further topped off by .10 carat baguettes on each side. The finished look is brilliantly clean and resplendent, while offering additional details that make it unlike any other ring. This is true beauty at its finest. This is Vanna K.

Crown your love a queen today by giving her something as unique as her and as big as your love… give her a Vanna K.”

Coconut Oil: NEW FAVORITE BEAUTY SECRET

20 Jun

My NEW FAVORITE Beauty Secret!

COCONUT OIL!!!

Pressed from the fruit of the coconut palm tree, not only is this oil super healthy to eat, but it has amazing uses for the outside of your body as well.

Coconut oil can be used as a skin moisturizer, helping with dry skin and reduces protein loss when used in hair. The best part is that it is natural and without a bunch of chemicals in it. I am loving it right now because my hair and skin are always so dry and I love that I can use just one natural product to moisturize both my skin and hair. I bought the Organic Virgin Coconut Oil that comes in a jar from Trader Joe’s. They sell it in the oil section.

This is what coconut oil looks like inside the jar, in a white solid form.

The interesting thing about coconut oil is that it is in a solid form at first. A white solid, and turns into a clear liquid when slightly warmed up. It’s really interesting that it melts into a liquid with the warmth from your hand and body. So you can scoop some into the palms of your hand and rub together and apply to your face, body, or hair.

I’ve been using it on my face in place of a moisturizer at night and before applying my makeup in the morning for a week now and it hasn’t made me break out, and doesn’t make me too oily. If you aren’t too sure about wearing it under your makeup then try just applying it as a night moisturizer. It is great to use just around your delicate eye area as a moisturizer if you are worried about putting an oil on your face, or if you already have oily skin.

I love using it as a body moisturizer, just warm it between your palms and apply it. It also is great after the shower, it soaks in nicely to damp skin.

For my hair I apply it to the ends before blow drying, and they apply more to the ends before using a curling iron or flat iron. It soaks in nicely to my hair and as long as you don’t apply too much, it looks natural and shiny on your ends without looking greasy. Once in a while at nighttime I will apply a good amount to the ends of my hair and put it in a bun to condition it while I sleep, then shampoo and condition in my morning shower as usual.

Other uses:

Use it as a lip balm, hand moisturizer, cuticle oil, shaving oil, add to your bath for moisturizing, as a foot moisturizer, post shower body moisturizer, deep conditioning for hair, as a hair serum, to remove water proof mascara and eye makeup. I’m sure there are a bunch of other creative ways to use it, but that’s just to name a few.

I wanted to have this new amazing love of mine in a smaller to-go size for travel and to easily take with me to photo shoots if I need it, so I got creative this morning. Here is what I did.

I used a mini shampoo bottle that I got from a hotel visit recently. I couldn’t find a small jar in my house, but that would work well too. I chose to use this bottle because the mouth of the bottle was large enough that I could stick my finger in and scoop out the coconut oil if in it’s solid form, and it was for shampoo as it’s prior contents, which I was pretty sure good enough to prevent leaks for when the oils was in the liquid form.

Great tip***  When visiting hotels, even if you don’t like the product inside the mini bottles, take the bottles with you anyways and use them to fill with your own favorite beauty products for travel. I do this all the time, and keep extra ones around for new products or for making my own. I relabel them with my own labels, and remove the original labels*** How to remove the labels? Keep reading….I answer this at the end of this post for you.***

This is the mini shampoo bottle that I decided I wanted to put a travel sized amount of coconut oil in. It has been rinsed, cleaned, and dried

This is the jar of coconut oil, with the oil in it’s solid white form.

Using a butter knife scoop out the coconut oil in small amounts and fill the to-go container.

This is me filling the smaller container.

This is the to-go container filled with the coconut oil in it’s solid white form

This is what the coconut oil looks like in it’s clear liquid form. I just put it up to the hair dryer on a low heat setting and shook it gently a few times until it was all melted.

Now I have a smaller travel- sized container of coconut oil. I can keep the larger one in the kitchen for cooking, so when transferring be careful not to contaminate it in any way. (Liquid form in the small container, solid in the larger container.)

The smaller to-go container from the top view.

To remove the shampoo labels from the bottle, Heat up the label with a hair dryer, and peel off while still warm.

By using the hair dryer to heat up the label, this should also remove the sticky part with the label as you peel. So if it isn’t coming off, blow more heat on it with the hair dryer.

Viola! Coconut Oil by Sunset Blonde!! Lol.

In this photo: I used it as a facial moisturizer and as a hair serum on the ends of my hair and to tame fly-aways for my photo shoot.

Please feel free to share your thoughts, uses, opinions and questions about coconut oil!

Day 4: Hawaii Polo Match + Trish McEvoy Makeup

14 Jun

On our day off here in Hawaii we got invited to a Polo Match! This was very exciting for me, since I’ve never seen a polo match, other than in the movie Pretty Woman.

Me watching the polo match

I am going to share with you some of the fun details of this event, where it was, what I wore, etc.  But what I really want to share with you is the free makeup that I received in the gift bags! Because you know me, I love beauty!

Makeup by Trish McEvoy!

A little bit about the polo match:

The Invitation to the Polo Match

The polo field is gorgeous and located right on the beach of Oahu’s beautiful North Shore. To see more, visit their website at http://hawaii-polo.org/

This is what the polo match looked like.

Apparently every polo Sunday you can watch the best players and ponies in the state and from around the world play the ‘sport of kings.’ The gates open at noon on Sundays and games start around 2 pm.

It all started with the pony parade and then moved on to the polo game with exciting half-time activities including skydive stunts and a fashion show! It was sponsored by Mercedes and Porche, so they had the brand new cars drive out onto the field in the opener with the horses!

For all the VIP attendee’s the dress code was ALL WHITE!

We arrived early, so the tables are still empty, but as you can see, every thing is white themed in the VIP area!

How fun? I love white parties, and never wear white because it always gets dirty so fast, so I think for special occasions that it’s great! I wore a big floppy hat that my wonderful friend Katerina Van Derham gave me for my birthday, and attached a white flower to it.

For my outfit, I wanted to wear something sophisticated yet girlie and cute . . .

So I wore a white silk blouse from Banana Republic paired with a blush colored tulle skirt from H&M. I figured since the pink was so light, that it would still look kind of white, and yet, frilly and girlie.

I wore tan wedges from Aldo that are comfortable and wedges are easier to walk around on the grass in. I bought these wedges last year, and they still sell them here: online.  I love them because they are super comfortable & go with so many outfits for summer!

ALDO T-strap sandal in Cognac $70.00

For my accessories I wore my right hand rings for sparkle,  along with cheapy pearl & gold bead bracelets that I got from Forever21 on my left wrist, a Chanel gold and pearl necklace & Chanel mother of pearl CC earrings to class it up! ;)

I bought this vintage white leather waist belt years ago, but never quite found the perfect outfit to pair it with. Luckily, I never got rid of it because finally I had the perfect outfit for it! It cinched the blouse around my waist nicely and pulled the outfit together.

I wanted a small purse because I knew that I would be carrying it around all day, so I brought my small Gucci purse. I loved that my purse had pink leather around the zipper and straps to match with the pink skirt with gold details to match my jewelry!

Me and some of the girls before arriving at the match:

And now, THE MAKEUP!
Upon leaving the event, VIP guest were given a gift bag. To my favor, it was MAKEUP! I got super excited and pulled it all out to see what it was right away! I got a Lipstick Crayon, Eyeliner, and Lip balm from Trish McEvoy.
When I got back to my room, I looked up Trish McEvoy because I had heard the name before, but wasn’t familiar with any of the brand’s products. I looked up the products that I had been given and here’s what I found.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Essential Pencil-Baby Pink
I tried this pencil right away on my lips. I got it in BABY PINK color, but it was more of a shimmery medium pink. Nice, but not as natural as I had hoped for. But I would love to try some of the other colors, they look really nice, and this lip pencil went on smooth and moisturizing. I love that they suggest that this can also be used on cheeks as a cream blush, because I think this shade would be perfect for that use. I would just use this as a lipstick, but if you have to use it as a liner, at least it’s big enough to deter you from making the obvious lip liner mistake.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Beauty Booster Lip Balm SPF 15
I love that this lip balm has Spf 15 in it, I love products that aid in anti aging! Since I’m in Hawaii where it’s gorgeous outside, I’ve been needing a spf for my lips, so this one is perfect. It smelled and felt a lot like Carmex brand lip balms, but I like this tube container better. It is easier and more girly to apply this way. A great free gift!
____________________________________________________________________________________
On the Trish McEvoy website I found a video on how to apply this GEL eyeliner, she explained that it is good to use right in the lash line by lifting the upper eyelid up and making small dots and connecting them. The eyeliner that I received did not have the little smudger tip on the opposite end of the pencil like the full size does, I think mine was more of a sample size. But I tried using it in a similar manor and it applied really well. The pencil is smooth and richly pigmented. I applied it before flying home to Los Angeles, and it was still on and in place when I landed. This was my favorite makeup item that I received in the gift bag.

Day 2 On Location: Hawaiian Beach Bikini Photo Shoot

11 Jun

Day 2 On Location: Hawaiian Beach Bikini Photo Shoot

Below is a photo of all of the crew setting up the shot. You can see me with my set bag perfecting the model’s hair before she starts shooting.

The weather starting out this morning didn’t go as well as hoped on day 2. Up at 4am to start hair and makeup on the new model, only to get to our location at 6am, and wait around for an hour to see if the sky would clear up  to get some nice sunlight to shoot.

I took a photo of the sky around 6:30am, the sun is just barely visible through the oncoming clouds. The ground below is dark, and there isn’t enough natural light to properly shoot the model with.

Our model of the day was Julia Docherty. She was a great sport running back and forth in and out of the pop up changing tent to stay dry from the rain. Below in a photo of the pop up changing tent. It’s convenient but rare to have a tent like this on location. But it is great for model’s to change inside of when on a public beach for some privacy and rapid outfit changes. Just wanted to show you this because it’s kind of a neat invention that makes on location shoots more comfortable for a model.

Soon after we changed locations to shoot at the Aqua Nui House. This is the photographer’s house that we are staying at. This is a shot of the back of the house, the ocean & beach are the backyard, which makes it a perfect shoot location!

This is the gorgeous model for Day 2, Julia Docherty, a D cup swimsuit model that fills out the Sunsets Inc. swimsuits nicely. She was stunning, and had amazing eyes. In the photo below you can see how I styled her hair and did her makeup for the shoot. I played up her eyes, contoured her cheeks and gave her a nude/natural lip. Her hair was styled with soft beachy curls and sexy side swept bangs. This hairstyle was hard to keep looking fresh and perfect on her because of her fine hair type. 4 touch-ups where required to re-curl her hair throughout the day, and lots of hairspray was used!

Her eyeshadow was a Metallic Eye shadow in a green shade from Bobbie Brown called Sage which I blended into her creases and under the outer corners of her eyes. I used Bone also By Bobbie Brown and blended it onto her lids and brow bone.

In Julia’s hair I added some clip-in hair extensions to keep her hair looking fuller and curled, since hair extensions hold curl really well.

I used a combination of all 3 of these hairsprays throughout the day for controlling frizz and flyways, as well as for hold during re-curling.

Below is a photo of me touching up her hair in between shots, standing behind as shade panel that is known as a scrim. Photographers use a scrim to shade the model from direct sunlight, it’s basically a lighting tool.

She is wearing faux lashes, and Loreal Voluminous Mascara in carbon black, and Kevyn Aucoin The Eye Pencil Primatif in Black on top lashline only and blended.

I applied Makeup Forever HD Foundation in color #123, with a custom powder to set it that I made with yellow undertones to match her tan.

I used MAC Bronzer in GOLDEN under her cheekbones and jawline for contouring with the FANCY CHEEKY BRUSH from SUNSET BLONDE, and Kevyn Aucoin blush in Dolline on her upper cheeks.

Kevyn Aucoin The Pure Powder Glow – Dolline which I find to be the perfect matte apricot shade:

Julia needed a long lasting lip color for her lips so I made a custom color for her from Loreal Infallible Lipsticks in #812 Opulent Organza & #423 Perpetual Peach. These have nice staying power and go on creamy. Both of these colors are great to use by themselves and look great if you want a natural color for many skin tones. #812 is more of a matte berry color, and #423 is a shimmery peachy pink. I think that a combination of the 2 makes a perfect shade.

An on-set trick from Sunset Blonde:  It might look weird, but works great! I like to take a small amount of lipstick with me to go in a Disposable container when on location, instead taking the entire lipstick with me and risking a meltdown in my “on-set” bag in the blazing sun.  I’ve come up with a great idea for those plastic containers that false lashes come in, I smear a small amount of lipstick straight from the tube onto the plastic & Go! This not only keeps my lipsticks sanitary, and from melting, but it allows me to keep a separate tray of lipstick for each model that is portable. Great idea to reuse an item you might normally trash.

At photo shoots there are usually racks of bikinis, stacks of accessories and it can get pretty messy. This company is great in that they neatly hang up the bikinis with matching cover-ups, and attached to the hangers in plastic bags are the accessories nicely matched up for each outfit change that have been selected prior to the shoot day. This organization strategy speeds up the changing time in between shots, and makes it easy for the stylists and models to know what the complete next outfit is. I love it when designers are super organized and time efficient!

As I described in Day 1, I love my on-set bag, so I thought I would take some photos of my actual bag so that you can see me wearing it, and what I am able to fit in it! I like to wear it across my body so that I don’t have to worry about it falling off my shoulder. As you can see, I have a lot of useful items for touch ups, brushes, hairspray, compacts, bug spray, even a favorite of mine… coconut water for hydration.  This bag also makes a great travel toiletry bag for the travel lovers reading this!

By late morning the sun was shining high in the sky and we pushed through a lot of shooting. I had to blur out the model on the far left, so that you can’t see her bikini, because they will not be released until July, so I have to keep them a secret ;)

I will be modeling on day 3 & 4…so stay tuned for more photos and info!

Make Your Own NUDE Nail Polish

4 Jun

I love Bare Minerals, you can read about it in previous posts, so when I came across this amazingly creative idea in a magazine, I HAD to try it!! It worked great, and so I wanted to share it with you!

_____________________________________________________________________

You can make your own custom nude nail polish color by mixing your Mineral Foundation with an ivory or cream shade of nail polish. I tried it out on an old bottle of nail polish that I got at Ulta, it was kind of an ivory color that I used to use for French Manicures.

Here’s what you need:

1. Bare Mineral Powder Foundation

2. Ivory or cream colored nail polish

3. A spatula

I scooped about 4 spatulas of the Bare Minerals Foundation into the nail polish, and then screwed the cap back on. (see below=1 scoop on the spatula)

Shake it up until fully mixed. You can start to see the nail polish color change colors to a nude shade.

My nails naturally have a bluish purple color to them as you can see in the photo below. It is especially blue when I am cold, which I think looks really weird. So I love the idea of a nude color that matches my skin tone! Pictured below, left is my nail with only clear polish on, and the right 2 nails are painted with one coat of the new nude shade of nail polish that I just made.

Here is what it looks like on my nails after 1 coat:

Here is what it looks like after 2 coats of polish:

A few days later I did my nails again, and wanted to paint them using the same new nude nail polish color that I made, but wanted to make it more shimmery instead of such a matte nude. So it tried adding 1 coat of “show me the ring” by Essie Nail color over 2 coats of the BM nude nail color.

Here is how it came out, “show me the ring” is sort of a sheer white-gold shade, and so layering it over the nude made it look like a shimmery golden nude color.

So pretty, and really nice neutral shade for my photoshoots.

What a great new use for Bare Minerals and to revamp an old nail polish color! I’m also going to try and see what happens if I add it to a bright pink color or red….

Let me know if you try this, and what you think!

Thanks for reading!

Hair Extensions & BLONDE hair

22 May

Blonder is not always better

Would you rather have super short and damaged blonde hair,  or your natural hair color with that gorgeous length? I’ve decided to go with length.

As a model & Makeup Artist, I have seen it all when it comes to Blonde hair. Not very many girls’ hair can handle the long term damage and commitment that dying your hair blonde takes.

I know this because I have dyed my own hair a much blonder all over color than my natural shade for almost 5 years now. I started dying it really blonde after I did a magazine spread with Angus Mitchell for Modern Salon Magazine. I was on the cover and had a 7 page spread in the issue, which was my first magazine cover. I’m glad now that I did it, but I will never do it again!

Here is Angus, cutting my hair:

As honored as They cut my hair in this crazy uneven short style with bangs. Honestly, it was the worst haircut I’ve had in my whole life. I understand that it was for the “art” of the spread, but realistically, it was NOT a hair cut that I could work with on a normal day. I cried. I cried over my hair. I didn’t know what to do. Yes, it grows back, but man it takes way too long.

So back to talking about dying my hair blonde….

As part of the look for the shoot, they dyed my hair bleach blonde, added dark brown underneath, with subtle pink and yellow streaks. After the photoshoot, they allowed me to come into the salon, and dye my hair back a normal color, the bleach blonde. They removed the colored streaks and dyed the brown hair underneath uber blonde.

I started to like the really blonde look on myself. Naturally, I have dark Blonde hair with strawberry undertones. Even though the color grew on me, the length and lack of fullness that I was used to was gone.

This was my first look into hair extensions.

In the beginning, I had no idea that you could clip hair extensions in until I moved to Los Angeles. Originally being from Chicago, us midwest girls rarely wear hair extensions! Now, living in LA, and after all of the dying and damage from photo shoots that gets done to my hair, it has never been the same. It seems like it never grows, and just breaks before I need a haircut! Anyone else know what I’m talking about?

Since I didn’t want to fully commit to the semi-permanent extensions at first, I looked into getting ones that you could just clip in and out. I only wore them for photoshoots or special occasions. Thinking that once my hair grew out, I wouldn’t need them anymore, but I have been wearing them ever since. Like I mentioned before, having my hair that blonde, it would break off at about my shoulders, and never seemed to be any longer.

Here’s one of my SECRETS, SHHHHHHH! Don’t Tell!! ;)

I have 2 sets of extensions, ones I wear when my hair is straight, and ones that I wear when my hair is curly. This not only prolongs the life of your clip-ins, it also makes getting ready in the morning so much quicker! Since I don’t have to restyle (recurl or straighten) the extensions as often. They are also cut and layered differently so that they look more natural for the style.

Now, after realizing that my hair was never going to be strong enough to grow the length I wanted it to if i kept dying it, I’ve jumped on the “Ombre/ Baliage” trend, and taken full advantage of this look. If you don’t know what that is you can see examples of it here:

Ombre Trend:

I have been just highlighting every 4 months, and letting my natural hair color shine through as much as possible! My ends are much lighter, and my roots are darker, hence the “ombre” look. But the highlighting allows for a more blended look, it’s not so drastic, it fades nicely.

This is a current photo of me with my natural color growing in:

And Here is an old photo of me with really blonde hair to see before & after

But as soon as all of the overall dyed hair grows out, it will be back to auNatural! Girls, I have to tell you, my natural hair is softer, and fuller than it’s been in 5 years. It’s like I had forgotten what it was like to have normal hair. My hair was always so dry and fragile, feeling like straw, ugh, so bad. Now, my hair is healthier and I’ve been getting so many compliments on it. I am totally embracing this, and learning to love my real hair color again. I think you should too. You probably wont like it when I say this, but if your hair is super short, and doesn’t seem to grow because you dye it blonde, stop! Don’t keep frying your hair off. Long natural hair is sooooo much better than fried short blonde hair where we can all tell you have hair extensions in!

Ok, so for those of you that can’t do it, I get it. I get it! So, Here is what I’m going to do for you! I’m going to come out with my own line of Clip-In Hair extensions for you.
Why? Well, because I have become what you might call an EXPERT in the Clip-in hair extension department. ;) I’m great at not only placing them in such a way that they look completely natural, so no one Ever knows that I am wearing them, but I’m also great at blending them to look like your real hair.

Yes, I’m really going to do this. So Subscribe/follow my blog so you will be notified right away when they are available!

Thanks!

My Ad with Kim Kardashian for Midori

19 May

Many of you may have noticed this advertisement for Midori featuring Kim Kardashian in a green dress, but don’t forget to notice yours truly right next to her! In case you don’t know what I look like, I’m the blonde in the white dress on the right side of Kim.

Working behind the scenes with Kim Kardashian. She was really nice! She was really in the shot as you can see. And you can also see what she looked like in real life standing next to me.

You can also note that the backdrop at the shoot was white, and the “cityscape” was edited in at a later time.

This is the complete ad for Billboards:
