💗”Coco & Cashmere”💗 is my hair secret!

COCONUT OIL

is amazing for taming frizz & conditioning hair, plus doubles as a natural and great body moisturizer! Instead of using synthetic serums, try natural coconut oil instead. A little goes a long way! (I’ve written more about coconut oil- click here)

Screen Shot 2013-04-14 at 10.11.18 PM

I’m a huge fan of coconut oil, and have been using it for years, as a body moisturizer, cuticle oil, hair defrizzer, deep conditioner, and facial moisturizer.  I love the spray version that just recently became available at Trader Joes, you can also find it at the regular grocery stores. I use it all over my body after a shower by spraying it on and then rubbing it in, then what is left on my hands after rubbing it on my body, I then smooth it on the ends of my hair. It’s easier to apply and less messy than the solid version, you can even keep it in your shower and spray yourself down after showering! The best part is that it’s all natural, and even edible. Why not put something on your body, that you can also put in it?

Baby Powder as a Dry Shampoo

8 Apr

36599-00_l

Baby Powder isn’t just for babies, and is a must have beauty product. There are so many uses for it, but a favorite and most popular beauty secret is to use it as a dry shampoo.  Using baby powder as a dry shampoo on oily/dirty hair is a great solution to absorb oil and refresh your hair.

There are also great alternatives to traditional baby powder that are more natural & talc-free. Baby powder is reasonably priced and it lasts a really long time.

Shake powder out into palm of your hand, rub together in hands and work the powder into the scalp & roots where hair is the most oily. Once applied, work a brush through root to tip to get rid of excess powder and to distribute evenly.

We Recommend: Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Dusting Powder because it is talc free!

How are Cashmere Hair Extensions different?

Hair extensions are not just for adding length. You can achieve volume, texture, chemical free color, highlights and color accents all without the use of harsh chemicals. No longer do you have to wait months or even years to have the look and lifestyle you desire.  Cashmere Hair Extensions will give you instant gratification!

webFINAL diagram hair SUPERIOR

Owning a set of Cashmere Hair Extensions, not only saves you THOUSANDS of dollars, but is the easiest and most convenient hair extension system.  Salon applied hair extensions are extremely damaging and over priced. Cashmere Hair Extensions are a one time payment, with the convenience of at home custom application. Cashmere Hair provides the perfect alternative to permanent hair extensions and look even better! This is the ultimate DIY system for even the most inexperienced user, that only takes minutes to put in and seconds to remove. With Cashmere Hair you can have salon quality hair with out spending the time or money.

What is the quality of the hair?

Cashmere Hair is 100% High Quality Cuticle Human Hair. The hair cuticle is facing in the same direction which prevents tangling and matting. This High Quality Hair allows for better blending with your own hair and gives the appearance of natural, healthy looking hair.

What really makes our hair extensions the BEST is our gentle dying process, which takes up to 9 – 12 days.  Other 2 day processes, which rapidly dye hair using heavy acid and chemicals, cause damage to the hair. This heavy chemical processing causes hair to loose vital moisture and nutrition. Instead, our process of dying is a very slow process which is the least damaging to hair and gives you the healthiest quality hair, allowing your hair extension to look their best longest. We take the quality of our product very seriously, which is why we set ourselves apart from other companies on a completely different level of quality & authenticity. We have our strands laboratory tested and certified to be 100% Cuticle human hair, the highest quality available.

Other companies mask the harsh chemical process by using silicone to disguise the bad quality of the hair to make it feel silky when you first purchase it. After a few shampoos you might notice that the coating come off, and true nature of the quality is revealed.

Will Cashmere Hair Extensions damage my hair and how long my extensions last?

No damage will occur, and unlike traditional salon extensions. Cashmere Hair Extensions should last you anywhere between 6 to 12 months, with proper care and maintenance. Clip-in Hair Extensions can be reapplied and styled daily. If using a curling iron or flat iron, we recommend first styling your own hair, and then styling the clip-ins similarly before clipping in. Although, we always recommend using the least possible heat styling while getting the most uses out of the hair before rewashing. It is not necessary to wash your extensions after every use. Keep in mind, just like our own hair, any type of heat wears on the hair in time. These tips will save your own hair & extensions from extra unnecessary heat styling damage. Tip: Always try and treat your hair extensions with lots of love!

Can I dye Cashmere Hair Extensions?

Cashmere Hair Extensions are made of real hair just like your natural hair. It is always recommended to see one of our trained professional hair stylist or a professional you trust to assist you with any changes that you would like made to your hair extensions.  Please choose the hair extension color that is closest to your natural hair color, we do not recommend dying the hair extensions, since many of them have already been specially dyed. Our goal is to supply you with the best quality hair extensions possible, and we have a very special dying process that keeps the hair in the healthiest condition. Further dying could damage the hair if not done by our professionals.

Will Cashmere Hair Extensions be visible, will people be able to tell I’m wearing them?

No, Cashmere Clip-in Hair Extensions should not be visible. The beauty of Cashmere Hair Clip-extensions is that they make achieving the look of gorgeous hair naturally. Once fitted they are a perfect blend with your own hair. They provide unlimited versatility with a natural look and feel. Our clip-in system is suggested to be worn low on your head making it easy to disguise and blend with your own hair. Part of the secret of wearing hair extensions is blending your hair extensions into your natural hair for the most discrete & natural look.

Will Cashmere Hair Extensions stay in my hair, without slipping out?

These hair extensions make having the look of gorgeous hair easy, fast and comfortable. With in minutes you will have the gorgeous hair you’ve always wanted. Specially designed small silicone pressure clips allow these hair extensions to be put in and taken off in just minutes and without the worry of sliding or snapping open. Our hair extensions are undetectable and natural looking when inserted properly. No teasing is necessary prior to clipping into hair for most hair types.

Will Cashmere Hair Extensions work with very thin hair?

If you have very thin hair, Cashmere Hair will definitely be the perfect match for your desirable look. Depending on the severity of the thinning of your hair, you will need enough hair to lie over the top weft to cover it. Backcombing the hair above the top weft can help disguise easier. Ideally you would want your hair to be at least 6 inches long for best results.

What is the length of Cashmere Hair Extensions?

Cashmere Hair Extensions are 18″-20″ long (47cm-49cm). When worn in the recommended application they automatically layer themselves giving you a more natural look.

What color do I choose?

When choosing a color to match your own hair, choose a color that matches your hair from the middle to the ends. Never choose the hair color of your “roots” as that is always darker. The color match blend for your hair will be from your middle length to ends. So choosing a color closest this area of your hair will give you the best results. If your unique hair color is not available in our color chart, the best options is to place a custom order with Cashmere.

Obsessed! My New Monda Studio LED Makeup Case

Obsessed! My New Monda Studio LED Makeup Case

I attended this year’s The Makeup Show LA, and fell in LoVe! This year was my second year attending, so I knew what to expect and came prepared. What I wasn’t prepared for, was my newest obsession, the Monda Studio LED Makeup Case that I bought for a STEAL at the show!! The glistening bright lights that rim the mirror in the top of the case called to me as I walked by them in the Nigel’s booth, and I couldn’t help but stare in awe of this beautiful invention. I had seen lighted makeup cased before, but they were huge, had actual lightbulbs and were over $1000. The price tag was so reasonable on these cases, and the size was absolutely perfect. I first decided that I would get the smallest size, but at the last minute changed my mind to get the medium sized one.

The MSC-810 LED Lighted Mirror Make Up Station is the one I purchased. I comes on wheels, and has a handle to pull like a suitcase when it is closed and upright. It’s a little on the heavy side, but because it’s on wheels it’s manageable.

The best part, for me, are the lights! They work really well and are LED lights, which last a really long time 30-50,000 hours, you don’t need to replace them, and you can even brighten or dim them for the proper lighting effect! These lights also emit a minimal amount of heat and save 80% of the energy that incandescent lights use  It plugs into an outlet, and just press the button to turn them on, and you are ready to go!

For professional makeup artists, this is a great way to get better lighting on the go, and for personal use, the smaller sized ones are perfect for your own personal vanity!

It comes in 3 Sizes! (mine is the medium size.)

Fabulous Rich Girl Hair

14 Jan

Want to look Fabulously Rich this year!? —–> Start with your HAIR.

155W1494aweb

Thick and healthy hair is frequently a sign of fertility and youth and is thought of most attractive across cultures. Hair length and quality can act as a cue to youth and health. Hair also says a lot about your personal style as much as your clothes and choice of makeup. If our hair looks amazing when we leave the house, our attitude and confidence are high. But if having a bad hair day, it can bring misery and lack of confidence, starting your day off on the wrong foot.

Not all of us our blessed with amazing long full hair, in fact, most people would love to have someone else’s hair. That’s why we go to the hair salon and change it’s color, get hair extensions, and cut it into different styles. These salon treatments can get really expensive, especially if they require frequent upkeep.  But if you want to look expensive, it doesn’t have to come with a steep price tag. The ultimate status symbol, similar to the look of an expensive purse, is expensive looking hair. Expensive hair is shiny, healthy, long, thick, full of life and movement. You don’t need a celebrity hair-stylist to achieve a rich look, here are some quick tips to start you in the right direction.

There are a few things that you can do to achieve this Hollywood hairstyle secret.

Take the time! My best advice for rich looking hair, is always leave the house with at least your hair looking fabulous. Take the time to put on less makeup or just wake up a bit earlier, and spend some extra time on your hair. Healthy hair looks as if you actually have the time (& funds) to treat your hair right.

Fake it, until you make it. This is not only a Hollywood secret for success, but can also be applied when it comes to your hair! So many women can’t grow their hair past a certain point. If that is you, fake it. Real hair Clip-in Hair extensions are the easiest, fastest, lowest maintenance, and cheapest way to have rich girl hair. Using the “hair donut” also gives you the illusion of a full glamorous bun, even if you have shorter or thinner hair, and only costs a few dollars.

Grow it out. Long hair really embodies the idea of rich looking hair. If you can, grow it out, as much as you can, avoid “needing a change” and making the CHOP.

Nurture your hair. This one will take the most time, and is the hardest for a lot of women.  But if you have damaged your hair over the years with salon treatments, color or heat tools, try to instead go Au-nautural and try to quit dyeing it, airdry instead of blowdrying, and give it a nice long break! Breakage is never rich looking. Long, soft, full brown hair, is way better than short broken and damaged blonde strands. Any day.

Wear it down. Wearing your hair down, tends to look like you spent more time on it, than wearing it in a ponytail. The glossy, cascading curls (aka Victoria’s Secret Waves) are a glam style that’s universally chic, you can’t go wrong with long, tumbling waves. This is not only my personal favorite way to style my hair, this is also a style is that frames the face and works with almost any face shape. It never looks “too perfect,” and can last for all day without losing it’s freshness.

Expensive isn’t always better! You can master the color job at home, or find a stylist that you trust at an affordable price. You really don’t need a celebrity hair stylist to get the same results.

Avoid cheap hair looks! Never go over the top, or over do your hair. Cheap hair looks like “too much,” as in too much hair spray, too much crazy highlights or color, trying too-hard style. “Natural-Looking” is always the best look, so don’t be afraid to shake it out a bit when you are done styling, finger comb it out, or even spritz it lightly with water to “unperfect it.”

Practice, and then Practice some more! Mastering a great hair style can take some time. Practice a lot, get a friend’s help, watch youtube tutorials, whatever it takes to master the techniques.

So, if you are going to leave the house, and you want to still look fabulous, don’t leave without fabulous looking hair!

Wedding Day Makeup DIY

10 Dec

I’ve always preferred doing my own makeup over how anyone else does it. I have always felt like I do it best, even if it wasn’t always the best. Now that I’m a Makeup Artist, after getting professional training, experience, and learning industry secrets, I feel like I can do my makeup better than any one else can for my wedding day. And so can you!!

My wedding is taking place in Norway. A beautiful country that I have fallen in love with, but also a country that is still unfamiliar to me in so many ways. I know already, that I wont be able to find a local makeup artist that can do a better job than I can on my wedding day. So, I decided right away, that I would just do my own hair and makeup. I also recently gave some advice to a friend that was having a destination wedding, who asked me about doing her own makeup.

Here’s my advice for doing your own wedding day makeup:

Don’t stray too far from the makeup routine you usually do, just perfect it by having the right tools and products. You can even higher a professional makeup artist for a private lesson to help and give you pointers. The best wedding makeup, is still looking like yourself! Youtube also has many how-to makeup videos to help.

Do not wear SPF on your big day; it doesn’t photograph well. It tends to reflect the light, even when worn under makeup it can make you look pale or shiny in flash photographs.

Use blotting papers to soak up excess oil during your wedding to avoid caking on too much powder.

And, especially for this day, even though it’s a pain to remove at night, use waterproof mascara and eyeliner!

Find inspiration for your wedding day makeup look. Whether you are experienced with applying makeup or new to it, keep it simple, classic and as natural as possible.

Practice this look on yourself. Many times. I suggest beginning to practice the final makeup choice on yourself at least a month before the wedding.

Get the right products for the look. Long wearing formulas, waterproof, high quality formulas, and the right shades are essential for creating that perfect wedding day look. Buying the right products and shades will help you to look your best on the big day.

Have the right makeup brushes. A great way to not only ensure proper makeup application on your wedding day, but a great investment for your makeup collection everyday. High quality makeup brushes last longer than any makeup, they also ensure easier and more natural application. You can buy great ones I have designed at sunsetblonde.com.

If it’s an option, ask a friend to help you on the big day. Ask someone with a steady hand to help you apply that liquid liner, or apply the false lashes on your big day to relieve some stress and any mistakes. It’s a great idea to ask them before the big day, and do a trial run. I recommend waterproof mascara and individual false lashes, because they will look more natural and you wont run the risk of them coming unglued if you tear up.

Bring touch-up Makeup. Things happen during the wedding that can mess up even a professional makeup job. So expect to touch up your makeup every bathroom trip you make. At least try to look at it and make sure everything looks ok. Crying, hugging and kissing, dancing, and even eating can cause your makeup to disappear. Bring a compact with powder to cover shine, lipcolor, and Qtips as the bare minimum. You even ask a bridesmaid to hold it in her purse.

The most important part of your makeup for your big day is evening out your skintone for that flawless bride look, using foundation, concealer under eyes and on blemishes (apply over foundation), and a translucent setting powder.

Remember that a natural look is always best for your wedding day, so NO harsh/super bright colors or extreme sparkle.

Here are some inspirational makeup photos that I found for my wedding day makeup look, which might help you too:

Real Pearls in Fresh’s Face Luster

29 Oct

I’ve been using Fresh’s Face Luster for over a year now. I keep a compact in my purse, and one at my makeup vanity. When I’m not at a photoshoot, I’ve found it to be the quickest, easiest and most flawless face makeup I’ve ever found. It allows for great coverage because it’s a mineral powder, which I love to use to even out my skin tone, and cover any flaws. I also love the great coverage in a powder form because it is easier to apply than a liquid foundation. It photographs really well, making me look like I’ve been airbrushed.

The most unique quality about this makeup, and what makes it so different, is that it contains crushed pearls!  The crushed pearls in the pressed powder leaves my skin with a natural healthy glow, it’s not sparkly.

I wear it in Sandy Lane, and sometimes wear a light dusting of bronzer over it to darken it up if I’m tanner. It comes with a round sponge which is really easy for on-the-go touch ups, and can also be applied with a makeup brush. I have bought it from Sephora, and directly from the Fresh store, it’s sold out often, so I usually buy 2 at a time.  It’s $45 for a compact, comes in 7 colors, and also contains antioxidants A & E.. It is kind of expensive, but I think it’s so worth it! I’ve never found another face makeup like it. I wish it came in more colors for you ladies, but the shades that they do have are pretty versatile. If you are lucky enough to find your shade, it’s a great face makeup to own.

Here is a list of the ingredients:

Sunset Blonde’s Secret For Shiny Hair

22 Oct

Diamond Shine Brilliant Shine Spray by ZOTOS

This is my favorite shine spray. I apply it after blow drying and styling my hair. It adds shine and since I have dry hair, it adds life and moisture back into it. I just spray it lightly from 8-10 inches away on the ends, and one short spritz on the top.

I purchased it at Sally Beauty.

“Containing actual diamond micro-particles,
keratin and panthenol… Instantly infuse hair
with high-gloss shine and exceptional strength.

Diamond Shine Brilliant Shine Spray is long-lasting, color-safe shine spray that adds dazzling shine without weighing hair down.

why is it different?

Diamond Shine Brilliant Shine Spray instantly adds 2X more long-lasting brilliant shine without weighing hair down or making it appear greasy. It tames frizz as it smoothes and seals cuticles while UV and thermal protectants work to keep color rich & vibrant. Enriched with real diamond microparticles, keratin, and panthenol to strengthen and enhance shine.”

I found it to really be a weightless shine spray, that didn’t leave my hair feeling greasy. I also liked the scent, and find that the spray bottle allows for a very fine mist to be applied, which is perfect for not over doing it.

By far the most superior shine spray I have found in a long time.

Bra Care & Washing in the Washing Machine

16 Oct

I love my bras. They can be expensive, and I like them to last a long time. Hand washing them is a great way to care for them. But I don’t like to take the time to hand wash them, plus I have a lot of them.

I like to have lots of them so that I don’t have to wash them all the time. But, when the laundry piles up, there is a special way that I wash them in order to keep their shape, protect them from getting tangled and ruined. I don’t have the patience to hand wash them, so instead I wash them in the washing machine and hang them to dry. I DON’T suggest ever just throwing them in the washer!!!

Here is how to wash your bras in the washing machine:

1. Clip the backs/or fronts closed. This prevents the little hooks to get stuck on anything. In the washer, those hooks will cause them to get all twisted, snagged, and can ruin your bras.

2. Stack them with like-colored bras. Separate and pair lights, darks, colors.

3. Place them inside lingerie bags and zipper closed. These lingerie bags are a MUST for laundry. They come in handy not only when washing bras, but any delicate item. I use it to wash delicate sweaters, dresses, tops, anything that says “hand wash” is usually pretty safe in one of these bags. I’ve never had something come out ruined.

I have several, they usually come in packs of 2 or 3.

4. Wash on a delicate cycle. I usually wash it in warm or cold water. I prefer warm to really get dirt out.

5. Hang dry. Use a door knob, hanger, or clothes drying rack to hang dry your bras.

Nothing lasts forever, but learning to take care of your things, makes them last longer…

Eye Brow Marker

15 Oct

Because I am a blonde, and I have very blonde eyebrows that are naturally very thin and light. I regularly dye them brown so that they are visible, but I also like to give them nice shape and fill them in so they appear thicker. I’ve tried many different eyebrow products, pencils, creams, and powders. While recently shopping at ULTA I came across these brow markers by Laura Geller. I bought it in brown, because I like a slightly darker brow. I was really impressed by this product. It literally looks like a marker, containing a very thin liquid, like a stain applies to your skin and brow hairs. The tip of the marker is very thin which is great for applying it in brush strokes that mimic the fine brow hairs. It dries instantly, and looks really natural. I’ve used it for the past week, and it lasts all day, and washes off easily.

It’s $24.00 and comes in 4 colors, Taupe, Brown, Dark Brown, and Auburn.

How to Whiten Nails

14 Oct

HOW TO WHITEN NAIL/TOENAILS STAINED YELLOW FROM NAIL POLISH:

I came across a post on a website about how to whiten your nails/toenails if they turn yellow from nail polish.  When I read about how to whiten your nails, I noticed the comments people had made below it saying that it didn’t work for them. The website recommended using all kinds of things, like lemon juice, whitening toothpaste, and even denture cleaner.  I thought about the way I always get them looking white and pretty again, which was different & much quicker than what was suggested. It inspired me to share this beauty secret you.

Prevention: Dark nail polish colors tend to do this to your nails, especially if you skip the base coat step. To prevent your nails from turning yellow, use a clear base coat underneath your nail color first. But, if you skip the base coat, don’t worry, there is an easy solution for removing the yellow from your nails.

Before & After

How to:

All you need is a FINE NAIL FILE. I like to use this one from Sally Hansen. I have it in all 3, fine, medium, and course. But for this beauty secret, you will only need the FINE NAIL FILE. Why the FINE one? For several reasons, it removes the yellow layer on the top of your nails and still keeps them smooth, and because it only files a little bit. A course file will make your nails ridged and remove too much of your natural nails.

So here’s how to do it, It’s really easy and only takes a minute. Literally just file off/buff the yellow top layer of your nail. That’s it. It also smooths the texture of the natural nail to give nail polish a smoother finish.

Buff off yellow on nail.

Before: Nails are yellow from nail polish.

After: Nails are clear again.

Instead of applying some weird mixture of peroxide and baking soda, or whitening toothpaste, try this instant solution by just buffing off the yellow with a FINE nail file.

After filing the yellow off, rinse your nails under water to clean them, or swipe a cotton ball with nail polish remover over them to clean them. Then apply cuticle oil or coconut oil to soften and moisturize them. This works well for toenails and finger nails.

Fab Feet for the Perfect Shoe

20 Sep

I love wearing high heels, designer heels, cheap heels, no matter how expensive or sexy they are, sometimes some of them just hurt! Whether they squeeze your toes, are too tight, too big, straps don’t stay up, they cause blisters, etc. There are so many different ways that a pair of heels can be uncomfortable. While shopping at Target recently, I noticed that in the shoe isles they have an entire section of little things that you can put on/in your shoes to make them more comfortable and fit better! They where mostly by this brand called Fab Feet. I wanted to buy all of their products to have just in case, but I started with a few that I thought would be most helpful. I didn’t see any of the ones that I bought on the Fab Feet website, only at Target stores and Target.com

Here’s what I bought and tried:

SPOT DOTS Cushions:

I love love love these little guys! For the little spots in your shoes that give you blisters. These things really worked so well to pad any rough or stiff places in my shoes that rub my feet the wrong way. I tend to put them by the toes, or heel area inside the shoe after I’ve worn them around, which helps me to figure out where to place them. Such a great idea, because most of the time, a shoe is uncomfortable for me because of places that give me blisters or rub. This totally solves that problem. You can even cut them a little to custom fit an area if you need to.

SOFT STRIPS Gel Cushions:

I have a strappy pair of Louboutins that I love, but the heel strap falls down, and I even had my shoe guy professionally alter them to custom fit my foot, but they still slip off and go under my heel once in a while when I walk so I placed these Gel Strips inside of the straps and they help them stay up so much better. These are also suggested to use with flip flops, to keep slingbacks in place, and prevent blisters or discomfort from shoe straps. They are easy to customize by cutting to fit. They are clear which is great because you can add them to any color shoe and no one will be able to notice them.

BALL OF FOOT Cushions:

I also bought these really super cute heart shaped “ball of foot cushions. They come in a 3 pack with different colors. They keep your feet from sliding forward and cushions the ball of your foot for extra comfort. These have adhesive and will be difficult to remove from your shoes, so make sure that you really want them in that pair of shoes. Also, I just love the heart shape!

“I would hate for someone to look at my shoe and say, Oh my God! They look so comfortable!” -Christian Louboutin

Fortunately, there are little helpers to make heels more comfortable! There are all different kind of products out there to fit your shoe comfort needs. I already knew about sole inserts, but I love the other new options that are offered!

SHOE REPAIR:

I also recommend finding a good shoe repair place, and keep them in mind. They have come in handy for me when I’ve needed shoes repaired, re-stained, and they can even custom adjust belts, purses, and shoes to fit you & your style better. Even a beloved cheap pair of shoes can look brand new with a new sole or fresh coat of stain. So, don’t throw them away just yet. It’s usually just cheaper to get them fixed!

I use Andre #1 Shoes in Hollywood on Sunset Blvd. They are amazing, and do such a good job every time I’ve brought something in! I’ve even had them put red traction soles on the bottoms of Louboutin’s so that I don’t fall or ruin the nice red sole. I wish I knew about them a few years ago, instead of throwing out some of my old boots and shoes, I would have just gotten them fixed.  They are affordable and I highly recommend them.

Familiarize yourself with a local shoe repair, and keep them in mind next time you need a little shoe fix!

How To Keep Your Makeup Fresh All Day

9 Sep

There is no secret to keeping your makeup as fresh as when you first applied it.

The truth is, if you want your makeup to look good all day, you either need to periodically check your face and do touch ups, or you need to start fresh and reapply. There are certainly things that you can do to help it last longer on your face, but your skin is a living breathing thing, that moves, gets touched, gets sweaty, gets oily, and so on. Even simple things like using your phone and eating are guaranteeing you a touch-up. Try to avoid touching your face as much as possible throughout the day, it keeps it cleaner and prevents your makeup from getting messed up for longer.

So many magazines, articles and ads try to tell you otherwise, and list off simple tips to staying flawless all day. But I find that it’s mostly irrelevant tips, or bs.  I’m sharing with you the reality of makeup, which is that makeup is temporary. There is NO way to make it “stay.” The only solution is touch-ups/reapplying.

“How do you keep your makeup looking so flawless and last throughout the day?” So many girls ask me this question, and I figured I would share my secret for a flawless face . . . TOUCH-UPS!

Now, that I have shared this information with you, don’t freak out! It’s really very easy to do touch ups and reapply. It may seem like a hassle, but it’s just a necessary part of you making the choice to wear makeup. Even “long-wearing formulas” are still temporary.

If you wear a full face of makeup, the parts that you will most likely need to touch up most frequently are, your lips, and your foundation. Keeping a powder compact with a mirror and a lip color with you at all times, is not to difficult and can be kept in your purse.

Another way that I keep my makeup looking fresh, for example after a long day if I want to look fresh for a dinner date, I use a makeup wipe to clean off all of my foundation/powder on my face, leaving my eye makeup on. It is easy to just reapply lotion, foundation, concealer and setting powder and blush in only a few minutes to give my face a fresh look. Eye makeup tends to last longer on me, so I don’t have to touch up on it.

I like to use Comodynes Convenient Cosmetics Make-up Remover Sensitive & Dry Skin wipes from Trader Joe’s. They remove makeup well, and stay really moist.

I recommend keeping a few items with you in your purse or a tiny makeup bag. Whatever you think wears off the quickest, and will help you to look fresh is what you should put in it.

Here are some basic suggestions:

To-Go touch-up kit:

Pressed powder compact with a mirror in a translucent shade, or matching your skintone.

Small travel sized powder brush

Eyeliner (I recommend using a waterproof version so it doesn’t bleed or wear off, but if you love eyeliner, it’s a good idea to keep an extra pencil with you to touch-up with)

Blotting tissues (to remove oil and shine if you have oily skin)

Lip color (something that is easy to apply and natural looking for everyday) (Or that fun color you applied before leaving the house, throw that in your kit/purse)

Small container of concealer, or spare concealer (just in case those dark circles or zits start showing through your previously applied concealer)

I always keep some sort of mineral powder compact for touch ups because it gives great coverage to cover blemishes, to blend streaks, and blends well with the foundation I already have on. I use “Sandy Lane” by FRESH or Almost Poweder Makeup by Clinique in “04 Neutral”

Even during photoshoots, makeup artists are constantly doing touch ups to keep makeup and hair looking fresh, and they usually stay on set all day “just in case.” Unfortunately, we can’t all have our own personal makeup artist with us all day, so be your own personal makeup artist, touch up when you make a trip to the rest room, or whenever you have a minute and a mirror.

Sunset Blonde’s How to Pack

20 Aug

I know there are tons of different strategies, tips and tricks for packing, and I’m always trying to discover new ways of making packing for a trip out of town easier. It always seems like I bring too much, or too little, or I forget something. The thing about going on a trip, especially for females, is you never quite know just what you might need.

What makes this post different than others? I’m packing for 2 different climates/locations in 1 suitcase. HOW TO PACK FOR 2 Climates!

Recently, I have been doing a lot of research to possibly discover new packing ideas. Why? Because packing for 1 location is hard enough, but this time I was packing for 2 different locations/climates over a 2 1/2 week trip. Which means I need a LOT of different things. One hot location (Greece) and one cooler location (Norway). Packing for 2 locations can get pretty complicated, and you could end up packing way more than you need.  I wanted to pack only 1 suitcase, plus 1 carry on bag. I’ve over packed many times, and so this time I was determined to try and make it as simple as possible.

In my carry on bag, I put my purse, my jewelery holder, my digital camera, a scarf & jacket, toiletries and makeup for freshening up on the long plane flight, cell phone charger, my laptop, and a few other things that I wanted with me on the airplane.

In my large suitcase I packed my clothes, shoes, flat iron, and other toiletries, and and extra empty fold up bag.

Let me explain our 2 locations: We flew to Norway from California, stayed for 24 hours at our home in Norway, dropping off our “Norway Luggage” and then left for Greece the next day, for 5 days. We will then return to Norway where we will stay for another week and a half.

So, How did I pack for this trip you wonder?

Here’s How:

My strategy was to simply use 1 gallon plastic freezer Slider bags with Smart Zip to pack everything in. The ones I used were Hefty Brand, but any brand will do.  I put like items together, for example, all my tank tops in one bag, my casual tops in another bag, my bikinis in another bag. . . After putting the items in the bag, I squeezed all of the air out, and sealed it closed. I then labeled it “Greece,” “Norway” or “Both” and then I labeled what items were inside of the bag. (see photos below**) I know this might sound tedious and kind of OCD, but I’m sooo not an organized person, and this wasn’t so bad to do. It actually really helped me.

When I arrived in Norway, I emptied the contents of my rolling carry on bag, into another bag that I had (empty, folded up in my large suitcase.)

Then, from my large suitcase  I took all the bags labeled “Greece/Both” and packed them inside my rolling carry on bag. I checked this bag on my flight to Greece, which was much smaller than my large suitcase.

Here’s what my Greece packing looked like:

Before (everything all packed up in bags) and after (everything unpacked and laid out on the bed)

My small Carry-on rollerbag

What everything looks like packed into the suitcase.

Everything packed into Zip Lock Bags. **

Labeled- “Greece-Tanks” the tank tops that I packed inside a plastic bag. **

I even packed my shoes in plastic storage bags to keep them from getting my clothes dirty. **

Labeled my lingerie: “Both-Bras” “Both-Nighties/panties. **

If you noticed in the above photo, I used 2 different sizes of plastic bags, using the smaller bags for smaller items and accessories.

I also found it really helpful not only to stay organized by using the plastic bags, but it also helped to keep my clothes neatly folded and certain items together. If you are really good at making outfits, you can put each outfit in 1 bag, instead of by type of clothing. Because everything is labeled it is easy to pack things back in their proper bags when I am packing to leave. I could also write “dirty” or “clean” on some of the bags as well, so I know what I need to wash when I return home.

What I packed

Everything I packed was either white, coral, turquoise, black, tan, blue or denim. All of the items I brought could be mixed and matched with other pieces, which gives me a lot of options. I also wanted some bright colors, but not too crazy. I can also layer different pieces together, or change it up just by adding a belt or wedges. I tried to pick lightweight fabrics because I knew Greece was going to be very hot. I knew I could also wear a bikini top underneath outfits instead of a bra, so I chose bikinis that were also in the color pallet.

Here’s exactly what I packed:

2 Dresses. 1 floral print & 1 cotton white dress- both from Target

1 romper- easy to throw on for breakfast or over a bikini- from AQUA at Bloomingdale’s

1 pair of jean cutoffs-American Eagle

1 long black dress (traveled on the airplane in)- From Jill Roberts

1 chambray shirt-American Eagle, the light colored one.

2 light weight 100% cotton button-ups, 1 white & 1 coral colored-both from H&M

1 light weight pullover-Roxy

4 tank tops, sheer black, white, turquoise & coral-Feel the piece & Target

1 pair of comfy neutral flip flops-Aldo

1 pair of neutral wedges-Aldo

1 sheer black cover-up/can also be used as a night time fancy top. (havefaith.com from Have Faith Swimgerie)

5 bikinis-some can be mixed and matched – Bswim & Have Faith Swimgerie

2 satin nighties-lightweight and cool to sleep in-Victoria’s Secret

1 denim jacket, for the plane ride and cool nights-American Eagle

1 dressier dress (on the more causal side) for a nice dinner out- MICHAEL Michael Kors Chain Lace-Up Dress

1 light weight white 3/4 sleeve boyfriend cardigan to layer over if cool out- by Mossimo/Target

1 pair of white denim

Accessories:

1 scarf-Beige (good to carry on to the plane in case I you get cold) doubles as a wrap for nighttime-Gucci

1 silk scarf (leopard print) to wear as a headband, head scarf, or bracelet-Henri Bendel

2 belts, 1 adjustable camel colored leather belt that can be worn on hips or around waist.
1 gold buckle & straw stretch belt that is also fully adjustable-MICHAEL Michael Kors Stretch Belt

1 day bag-Louis Vuitton 25 Speedy with Strap

1 nighttime clutch-Louis Vuitton

jewelery

2 Bras, 1 nude, and 1 black-Target

The 2 dresses and romper.

Top: scarf, 2 nighties, Bras & accessories, cut-off shorts.
Middle: 4 tank tops rolled up, white jeans.
Bottom: jean jacket, chambray shirt, white cardigan, dress & romper.

Mix and match bikinis-mostly solid colors, in turquoise, coral, blue, and black.

Cute & comfy neutral flip flops that go with everything and can be worn at the beach/pool/or in town.

All my toiletries & Makeup.

Makeup bag.

Here I am wearing just one of the outfits. Coral button up over the coral bikini top, with cut-off shorts and belt.

I will do a post when I get back to Norway of all the things that I packed for Norway, and how I packed them as well…

Sunset Blonde’s Beauty Junkie Tip To Save You Money

9 Aug

Beauty Junkie Tip: Return Makeup.

This might sound obvious, but I know a lot of you are guilty of a drawer full of beauty products you don’t use.

When it comes to makeup, experimenting is part of the fun of it. Although sometimes, we don’t end up liking the results. This blog post is to encourage you to  return items that you never end up using, wearing, and even ones that you don’t end up liking. WHY waste your money on a makeup product that is going to sit in your drawer and collect dust, and not make you up? Even if you think you will use it at first, then a month goes by, and you ended up only wearing that Hot Pink Lipstick Shade 1 time, (and only around your house) return it!

Just because it’s makeup, doesn’t mean that they won’t take it back. Sephora takes back almost everything, so I’m not afraid to buy from there.

Keep all your makeup receipts in a pretty box, so they are easy to find. Also, don’t rip open any additional packaging, try to neatly remove it and save it for a little while, until you decide it’s a keeper. You can even place it in your receipt box, or keep them in the original shopping bag and store it in your closet.

Aside from the inconvenience of driving to the store, it is actually easier to return things that you might imagine. Most give you a nice time frame, so now you just have to remember to bring it with you next time you shop there.

For example:

Sephora will accept returns for a full refund if you are not completely satisfied. I always bring in my receipt and the product with the original packaging if possible.

Ulta will give you a complete refund within 60 days of the purchase price with receipt.

Walgreens will refund your money/or give you an exchange within 30 days of purchase. With original receipt, items will be returned for the full purchase price and refunds will be issued in the original method of payment.

Walmart items can be exchanged or refunded with a receipt within 90 days of purchase.

SAKS  you may exchange, replace, or credit your purchase when it is presented in saleable condition, just present the merchandise to an associate at any Saks Fifth Avenue store with the original receipt.

MAC will take returns within 30 days of purchase with receipt, even if you used it and didn’t like it, or it was the wrong color.

So as you can see from the few examples above, most have pretty generous return policies. I just wait until I need to go in the store again in most cases before making the extra trip. Just beware of the time limit.

I was thinking about sharing this with you today because I returned some hair bows, and a nail polish color to Ulta today, that I decided I was NEVER going to use and didn’t really like. They were still sitting in their original packaging, and I hadn’t even used them. So, I went into my receipt box, grabbed it out, took the items into the store, and got a refund. I got almost $35 back, which isn’t much, but I feel like I made money!  I just ended up using it to buy some other beauty products that I really needed today.

Now, if you are anything like me, a beauty store is a candy shop for me. I can spend a long time in a beauty store testing, looking and new products, reading ingredients, choosing colors, ect. Because I love to try new products, sometimes I purchase new ones that end up being bad, or I realize it’s not a good color for me, or it doesn’t do what it says it will. After all of the “experimental” purchases that you might make, before you know it you have spent a ton of money! Why not save yourself some money so you can buy new things that you DO like, by making a simple return or exchange?

For the future, Most places will take back items if you want to return them.  Return it if you don’t like it! It can end up saving you so much money in the long run. Just by keeping the original packaging and receipt handy, you give yourself the option to get your money back.

Hope this helps you girls and saves you some $$$$$$$$

Sunset Blonde’s Hair Color

7 Aug

I get my hair dyed at a Beverly Hills salon called Fringe Salon on Brighton Way.

It’s a new salon, and has the cutest black, white and purple decor, with a black chandelier, and Oribe hair products. My stylist is Melissa Barone.

I recently got asked on instagram by @mmchado872: “What colors do you ask for when you get your hair done?? I love your blonde pretty natural looking hair :)

So, I asked my hair stylist what she does on my hair. . . and this is what she replied:

” I can’t really tell you much about the color I use, because it changes all the time. I basically do a partial highlight working with the natural tone of your hair so that it creates a soft pale yellow with lighter ends. A very thin highlight throughout and a little thicker in depth on the top to show more prominent highlights.”

I usually go into the salon with an idea of what I want her to do. Since I have been dying my hair blonder for the past few years, I can usually explain to her what I want done. She also takes a look at my hair, and tells me what she thinks. Lately, I’ve been trying to get back to my natural color, and to get rid of the damage that dying my hair has done.

Now, everyone’s hair is different. Different color, different texture, is affected differently by color, so it is really hard to tell you exactly how I get my color. Part of my color is my natural hair color now, which is a dark blonde. I tend to get a little strawberry color in it too sometimes. Lately, I have just been requesting for her to give me blonde highlights. Sometimes she does them thicker, and sometimes she does them thinner, to keep my natural color blended. She also said that she gives me thicker highlights on the top of my head so that it appears more blonde, and that’s where the sun naturally hits. But my roots are still darker than my ends, because my ends don’t have any of my natural color blended in. Here is a photo of what my roots look like:

I do like, and request her to give me highlights around my hairline all the way around my head. I don’t like the drastic look when you put your hair in a ponytail, where you can see the highlights stop because they are only on the top of your head. I get highlights throughout.

Sunset Blonde’s Staying in Shape Tips

3 Aug

(above bikinis are by Have Faith Swimgerie)

Staying in shape for me has been relatively easy throughout my life. I know I’m very lucky that I don’t need to diet & that I am naturally fit. I used to be really skinny when I was younger, I was even made fun of and I got asked if I was anorexic a lot. I hated that everyone always asked me if I eat. Of course I eat!

As I got older, I grew to understand that because I was skinny & sort of pretty that I could have a shot in the modeling industry. After I graduated with a B.A. from college, I decided that I wanted to take a serious attempt at modeling. And that’s where I began.

I feel very fortunate to have the body and high metabolism that I do. Because when I want to splurge for fast food or dessert, it won’t effect the way my body looks. Although, I do care very much about my health and eating healthy. So on a regular basis, I eat healthy and a well balanced diet. I believe that it not only helps me feel good, but adds to my overall health, I want to live a long healthy life, so I make good choices. I like to look in shape, not too skinny or too thick, so there are several things that I do to stay in shape and stay fit. I am by no means a professional in fitness or health, I just wanted to share with you what I do.

(above photo: are the high-waisted bikini bottoms by Have Faith Swimgerie)

My main secrets for staying in shape are these 4 things:

1. Eat smaller portions

I can eat a lot, as I’m sure most of you can. But we all shouldn’t! I eat out a lot being on the road for work & for date nights, and restaurants always, always, always serve extra large portions. They give you so much food, and we are conditioned to feel guilty for not cleaning our plates. It is way to easy, and totally acceptable to over eat. We are so used to over eating that if we don’t over eat we don’t feel full. A normal portion size of food looks like a miniscule amount of food that won’t come close to filling you up, as compared to what we are conditioned to eat. You need to condition yourself to eat smaller portions. This will take time, but it can be done. When you are used to eating a smaller portion, it will fill you up, you will get the nutrition that you need, and you will feel satisfied instead of “stuffed.”

Honestly, I barely finish half a plate of food from a restaurant. I usually split a dish with my fiance, and I eat a smaller portion of it than he does, since he weighs more than I do.

Eating a smaller portion of food, makes it ok to also eat more frequently if you feel the need to.

Eating a smaller portion keeps my stomach from feeling bloated, and allows me to easily tighten my stomach muscles without feeling uncomfortable while I’m modeling.

2. Eat Healthy, Real Foods

Most people have no idea what is good for them to eat and what is bad. I always stick to natural foods as much as possible. I also really like natural foods that you don’t need to cook. Don’t get me wrong, I love to cook, but fruits and salads are always a healthy choice and don’t need cooking, which makes them really easy to whip up quickly and eat. I do always cut up my fruits and vegetables into smaller more enjoyable eats. Fruit salads and vegetable salads are so healthy and yet so simple.

I also love meat. I try to only cook it with olive oil or coconut oil and garlic or spices.

Quinoa is my favorite grain, the highest in protein and adds to all kinds of dishes. I make a really amazing salad with plain cooked and chopped chicken, strawberries, blueberries, avocado, raspberries, spinach, and quinoa. Just adding a minimal amount of Italian dressing from Trader Joe’s.

I love Trader Joe’s. I am lucky to have one located right across from where I live, which makes it my main grocery store and so convenient. I love it because it is smaller than a regular grocery store and they have less options, but healthier choices. I tend to buy eggs, fruits, vegetables, nuts/dried fruit, healthy dairy, and meats only. No junk food, no crap.

3. Be Routine

Routine may seem boring to you, but routine is important. This is something I learned from my fiance that has also aided both of us in healthy eating. When I first met him, I noticed and thought it was weird that he always ate different versions of the same things. He ate mostly chicken, egg whites, vegetables and fruits, and oatmeal. He was in AMAZING shape, muscles, a perfect six pack, and he’s in his late 30′s. He always made the same selections, oatmeal or egg whites, a chicken breast and fruit for breakfast. Chicken and vegetables for lunch and dinner, and sometimes an occasional steak, fish or sushi. He rarely ever ate carbohydrates or dairy, he didn’t completely avoid it, but it was never his first choice. I try to do the same thing now, it makes so much sense!

(A example of a snack: Carrot Juice and blueberries.)

Not only did he always make the same choices when ordering food, he also made the same selections at the grocery store when we would go grocery shopping together. Instead of buying just one of the item, he would put 3 or 4 of the same item into the cart. I thought it was weird, because for me, I always shopped for variety, I always shopped for new items, or things that I could experiment to cook with. I’ve learned that buying one container of raspberries for example, gets eaten after a day or 2, and then you don’t have anymore. So buying 3 cartons of raspberries allows you to eat a little everyday, and lasts for a week. It is also easy to know what to eat when you don’t have too many choices. I love keeping fresh berries & bananas, easy to make a yummy fruit salad with for a snack or to accompany a meal. Fresh vegetables that come cut up or that you cut up immediately getting home from the store, helps you to have snacks and quick veggies to grab to dip in hummus or dressing.

Here is a photo of a few things in our shopping cart, obviously we haven’t finished with our grocery shopping, but I wanted to show you a photo of the consistency/routine, and some of the things that we buy. We also added spinach, baby greens, chicken, quinoa, avocados, a mixed bag of veggies, kale, peanut butter, hummus, coconut water, carrot juice, vanilla soy milk, green tea, bananas, mangos, and a few other things. . .

I love to make Kale chips, my fiance HATES them. But I love them as a freshly prepared snack.

Things we drink: water, sparkling water, fruit water, hot green tea, iced tea, coffee, carrot juice, grapefruit juice, orange juice and coconut water. We stay away from artificial sports drinks and sodas.

Do your research and start by making a list of the healthy foods that you would like to keep you your home. Don’t keep the junk foods, or desserts in your home. Only splurge on them once is a while for a special occasion when out. And try to make your healthy food choices starting at the grocery store, and be routine about your choices. I like to start in the produce section and get a good amount of food there. Fruits, veggies, proteins, oatmeal, whole grains, and low fat dairy or soy as your main purchases.

4. Workout

I don’t just make healthy food choices, I also work out. My fiance works out 2 times a day, because he is an early riser. He does his cardio in the morning before he goes to work, and weight lifting in the evening. I join him in the evenings 2-3 times a week. He goes almost every day. I do his weight lifting routines with him, modifying some exercises because I can’t lift as much weight as him.

I recommend group fitness, taking classes at your local gym, or working out with a friend. It can be hard to get motivated, that’s why being routine with working out is important as well. By signing up for a class, committing to working out with a friend, or doing it the same time every day/other day, will help you stay fit. I’m lucky, and have my fiance to push me to go to the gym, especially when I’m feeling tired or unmotivated.

You should also choose a gym that is conveniently located to your work or home. I workout right at the gym across the street from where I live, so I can walk to it. You can also spend your money on a personal trainer to teach you a workout to suit your body and needs. It’s better to spend your money on a healthy fit body, than a new pair of shoes or an expensive new purse, isn’t it?

I hope these things help. They are not anything new, or innovative, but sometimes when you just make some smart choices and small changes in your life it can make a huge difference?

Here is a little extra motivation/suggestions that I came across and wanted to share with you:

P.R. Stila Cheek Color Duo

7 Jul

Product Recommendation:

Stila Cheek Color Duo

Color Bronze/ Rose – light pink & roses

I just bought this new Blush from Stila at my shopping trip to Namie’s yesterday. I tried it out in the store, and fell in love!  I also reapplied it before going out to dinner and a movie. It has 2 different shades of blush in one compact little bronze container. It can also be used as eyeshadow, I used the light pink side and dabbed a little on my eyelid and blended with the bronze shade that I was already wearing.

The colors are very shimmery, and usually I don’t go for shimmery cheek color because it can look very unnatural, but there is something fun and girlie about this one that just seems right. I think this is one of those “baked colors” It has a bright rosy pink shade and a plum bronze shade, which allows your to customize your cheek color by mixing them, using only one (the darker shade for a healthy glow, the lighter for fresh radiance), or for contouring. I think because it has shimmery qualities it doesn’t look chalky, it’s a great cheek color for all year round and many different skin tones!

Don’t forget to use the Fancy Cheeky Brush from Sunset Blonde with this blush! It’s the perfect blush brush to use with this blush to give you the most natural and delicate application of cheek color!

The FANCY CHEEKY Brush is THE perfect tool for applying blush, bronzer, highlighter and shading. I recommend getting one for each type of makeup application that you will do.

As a blush brush, the brush picks up less color than an angled or blush brush, and makes it easy to apply it where you want to. A few light sweeps give you a natural look for day, or layer on more for a glam evening look. It allows you to apply it gently and softly, without ever making a mistake or looking like a clown.

Loving this new Stila Cheek Color Duo, I highly recommend it to add to your makeup collection!

Sunset Blonde’s Bra Secret

7 Jul

These are what I call my “sticky boobs.” Since I have real boobs I need a little help in the cleavage department. When I’m modeling I also need a bra that I can wear with ANY style top or dress. The first time I saw these was when I was on set visiting a friend that was on the TV show “Deal or No Deal.” Since the girls where always wearing some sort of cleavage showing dress, these bras where a must-have for most of the girls.  I was a little confused, by these at first. They do what? Stick to my boobs? How? Really? And they look weird!?

They stick to your skin with a reusable adhesive layer and there are no straps and no back, which makes it possible to wear them with any style top. Even a sheer tops can be worn with these since they come in a skin toned silicone cup (for added size), or an un-padded nude cloth material (for girls that don’t need padding).

I need to be fast with changing outfits because I shoot for a lot of catalogs/online stores where lots of merchandise needs to be photographed in the most efficient amount of time possible. Changing my bra for each outfit is not practical nor efficient, and it’s a really huge pain for me to have to do. The sticky boobs make my job and changing so much easier. Plus they make my girls look so much better in photos! ;)

I originally ordered them from Nu Bra brand, but have since found them for so much cheaper at Target in the lingerie section. I like both styles of sticky boobs and wear both for different occasions.

I wear these at almost every photo shoot that I do! And I wanted to share this modeling secret of mine with you!

They are totally reusable and the stickiness lasts quite a long time. Now, since I wear mine often, (every time I shoot) I go through them pretty quickly. I wash it with hand soap and water every so often, and the stickiness usually lasts me a few months. For normal wear I would guess it would last you twice as long. I go through about 3 a year because eventually the lose their adhesive qualities. I am always wearing bronzing lotions- which isn’t good for the adhesive, so I don’t recommend it.

To wash them:

Take the cup of your Bra in the palm of your hand and slightly moisten the adhesive surface of the bra with a small amount of soapy, warm water. Avoid using moisturizing soaps, or other types of soap that contain oils/ lotions. I like to use dish soap.
Apply a lather over the bra adhesive, working with your fingers in small circular motions until you have covered the whole sticky surface of the bra with soap. Do not scratch off the adhesive.
To finish rinse the bra with warm water until clean. Shake the bra cups to remove all the excess water and place it on its original purchase tray to air dry.

The only issue I ever run into with these is when I’m on a location shoot and I get really hot, and start to sweat. If you are a sweaty person, or are going to wear them when it’s really hot out, don’t! They will fall right off! With any sweat or moisture between the adhesive and your skin, the stickiness will not work.

They also make them now in fancier styles, like lace, and in different colors if you want one a little sexier than just nude. They also make darker ones for different skin tones. You can buy them at nubra.com. I don’t like the layout of their website very much, it’s hard to navigate around and looks kind of amateur, but I have ordered some from there and I was very happy with my purchases.

Here are a few examples from a recent photo shoot where I am wearing them.

I’m wearing the sticky boobs with these dresses, and it gives me more cleavage and there are no visible straps.

I’m wearing them under this see-through top:

And I’m also wearing them under this dress with the strappy back:

With all of these top styles it would be difficult to wear them with a normal bra, or even a strapless bra. So next time you need a bra solution for a top or dress that you can’t wear a normal bra with, consider this option!

My Signature Scent

4 Jul

HOT COUTURE by GIVENCHY

I’ve been wearing this fragrance for over 10 years now. I have other perfumes but nothing says me more than this scent. My man just loves this ones as well, it’s his favorite on me too. It has the most amazing sweet raspberry notes, with jasmine, bergamot, and white musk. This scent smells flirty and girly, yet sophisticated and elegant.  So feminine and girlie, but not too sweet.

You can buy it at Sephora and Ulta.

Oatmeal & Egg White Pancakes

OATMEAL & EGG WHITE PANCAKES= AMAZING BREAKFAST

To be honest with you guys, when I first heard about these pancakes I thought it sounded like the most disgusting thing ever. But despite this initial reaction, after hearing a fellow makeup artist telling me how she lost a ton of weight by including these healthy pancakes in her diet, I became curious? The healthiness of these pancakes sounded amazing! Only made of oatmeal and egg whites, no flour, no chemicals, the perfect pancake…? I LOVE pancakes and french toast, but don’t feel right eating them every morning because of the carbs. These are such a great alternative, and I feel great starting my day off with this.

Can I really have my pancakes and eat them too?

Soon after hearing about these, I googled recipes and tested them out, and omg, they are not gross at all, they are really good! I adjusted the recipe to make these amazing and super healthy pancakes super easy! They really taste like pancakes considering what they are made from, it’s a little bit of a different texture/density, but I actually prefer them over regular pancakes any day of the week.

One morning I made them for my fiance, (he was only my boyfriend at the time) and he totally loved them! Being really into fitness and working out twice a day, these are the perfect mix of heart healthy oats and protein in egg whites. He was in love.

He has become such a pro at making them because he likes to eat them so often. We both like to make a big batch, then storing the extra ones in a plastic bag in the refrigerator and just eat them cold straight from the fridge. You can eat them plain, with fresh fruit, like a crepe, or just like a traditional pancake with syrup!

So recently while he was cooking up a batch, I took some photographs to share with you guys. While he was cooking the pancakes I cooked up some turkey bacon, which is really low fat, and prepared some fresh berries.

Turkey bacon!

It is really easy to make these pancakes and they are flour-less! So yummy.

If you are looking for a pancake recipe without any flour? Look no further! This heart healthy recipe is great tasting and great for you!

Turkey Bacon, fresh berries, 3 oatmeal egg white pancakes.
My fiance eats 3, I usually have only 1 or 2.

Here is the recipe that we use, it doesn’t have to be exact. If you want less carbs use a little less oatmeal:

Ingredients:

2 Cartons of egg whites

4 packets of instant oatmeal (we use the brown sugar & cinnamon oatmeal which already has some sugar in it) you can use regular if you don’t want any sugar in them.

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Mix all ingredients into a large bowl with a wisk, and blend together until well mixed. Let the oatmeal soak for about 5 minutes in the egg whites to soften up.* Coat the pan in a light layer of cooking spray. I use the olive oil spray from Trader Joe’s. This is so that the pancake doesn’t stick.  Using a 1/2 cup measuring cup pour enough to thinly cover the bottom of a medium pan. Cook until consistency is cooked enough that you can flip it over and cook the other side.

** Sometimes I will use a food processor to chop up the oatmeal, then add the egg whites. The food processor mixes the finely chopped oats and egg whites together nicely, makes it look more like batter. But my fiance and I like the texture so we just hand mix them usually.

Mix ingredients together with a whisk & measure out with a measuring cup.

The olive oil spray I use from Trader Joe’s to coat the pan before cooking each pancake.

After flipping the pancake over. . .

Store them in a ziplock bag.

They are great when reheated or even eaten cold!

Store them in a bag in the fridge for a breakfast on the go or snack!

Try these modifications:

Blueberry pancakes: Add 1/4 c blueberries (fresh or thawed) to recipe and omit cinnamon.

Oat-Nut pancakes: Add 1 1/2 tbsp diced pecans, walnuts, or almonds to recipe.

Enjoy!

Coconut Oil: NEW FAVORITE BEAUTY SECRET

20 Jun

My NEW FAVORITE Beauty Secret!

COCONUT OIL!!!

Pressed from the fruit of the coconut palm tree, not only is this oil super healthy to eat, but it has amazing uses for the outside of your body as well.

Coconut oil can be used as a skin moisturizer, helping with dry skin and reduces protein loss when used in hair. The best part is that it is natural and without a bunch of chemicals in it. I am loving it right now because my hair and skin are always so dry and I love that I can use just one natural product to moisturize both my skin and hair. I bought the Organic Virgin Coconut Oil that comes in a jar from Trader Joe’s. They sell it in the oil section.

This is what coconut oil looks like inside the jar, in a white solid form.

The interesting thing about coconut oil is that it is in a solid form at first. A white solid, and turns into a clear liquid when slightly warmed up. It’s really interesting that it melts into a liquid with the warmth from your hand and body. So you can scoop some into the palms of your hand and rub together and apply to your face, body, or hair.

I’ve been using it on my face in place of a moisturizer at night and before applying my makeup in the morning for a week now and it hasn’t made me break out, and doesn’t make me too oily. If you aren’t too sure about wearing it under your makeup then try just applying it as a night moisturizer. It is great to use just around your delicate eye area as a moisturizer if you are worried about putting an oil on your face, or if you already have oily skin.

I love using it as a body moisturizer, just warm it between your palms and apply it. It also is great after the shower, it soaks in nicely to damp skin.

For my hair I apply it to the ends before blow drying, and they apply more to the ends before using a curling iron or flat iron. It soaks in nicely to my hair and as long as you don’t apply too much, it looks natural and shiny on your ends without looking greasy. Once in a while at nighttime I will apply a good amount to the ends of my hair and put it in a bun to condition it while I sleep, then shampoo and condition in my morning shower as usual.

Other uses:

Use it as a lip balm, hand moisturizer, cuticle oil, shaving oil, add to your bath for moisturizing, as a foot moisturizer, post shower body moisturizer, deep conditioning for hair, as a hair serum, to remove water proof mascara and eye makeup. I’m sure there are a bunch of other creative ways to use it, but that’s just to name a few.

I wanted to have this new amazing love of mine in a smaller to-go size for travel and to easily take with me to photo shoots if I need it, so I got creative this morning. Here is what I did.

I used a mini shampoo bottle that I got from a hotel visit recently. I couldn’t find a small jar in my house, but that would work well too. I chose to use this bottle because the mouth of the bottle was large enough that I could stick my finger in and scoop out the coconut oil if in it’s solid form, and it was for shampoo as it’s prior contents, which I was pretty sure good enough to prevent leaks for when the oils was in the liquid form.

Great tip***  When visiting hotels, even if you don’t like the product inside the mini bottles, take the bottles with you anyways and use them to fill with your own favorite beauty products for travel. I do this all the time, and keep extra ones around for new products or for making my own. I relabel them with my own labels, and remove the original labels*** How to remove the labels? Keep reading….I answer this at the end of this post for you.***

This is the mini shampoo bottle that I decided I wanted to put a travel sized amount of coconut oil in. It has been rinsed, cleaned, and dried

This is the jar of coconut oil, with the oil in it’s solid white form.

Using a butter knife scoop out the coconut oil in small amounts and fill the to-go container.

This is me filling the smaller container.

This is the to-go container filled with the coconut oil in it’s solid white form

This is what the coconut oil looks like in it’s clear liquid form. I just put it up to the hair dryer on a low heat setting and shook it gently a few times until it was all melted.

Now I have a smaller travel- sized container of coconut oil. I can keep the larger one in the kitchen for cooking, so when transferring be careful not to contaminate it in any way. (Liquid form in the small container, solid in the larger container.)

The smaller to-go container from the top view.

To remove the shampoo labels from the bottle, Heat up the label with a hair dryer, and peel off while still warm.

By using the hair dryer to heat up the label, this should also remove the sticky part with the label as you peel. So if it isn’t coming off, blow more heat on it with the hair dryer.

Viola! Coconut Oil by Sunset Blonde!! Lol.

In this photo: I used it as a facial moisturizer and as a hair serum on the ends of my hair and to tame fly-aways for my photo shoot.

Please feel free to share your thoughts, uses, opinions and questions about coconut oil!

Beauty Shopping

20 Jun

Here is where I mainly go to buy my beauty products:

Ulta

Where I buy a lot of my drugstore brand products, fragrances, my curling irons, and salon products such as nail polish and hair products. I buy them here. Because they have a points program with membership for anyone, frequently offer coupons, discounts, and sales. I also like them because they have drugstore brands and prestige cosmetics in one location. They also sometimes will give you free samples if you know to ask for them upon checkout.

Sephora

I don’t get a discount here, but I like some of the Sephora brand products, as well as some of the newer beauty products on the market. They will also take back any returns so if makeup breaks or isn’t the right color they accept your return easily.

Namies

12640 Riverside Drive, Valley Village, CA 91607

As a professional makeup artist I shop here for supplies for my makeup kit, and I get 20-40% off of the makeup brands that they carry. Anyone can go in this store, but you need proof that you are a makeup artist to get the discount. They also carry makeup forever products which I love, and I get 40% off of.

Cinema Secrets

4400 Riverside Drive  Burbank, CA 91505

(818) 846-0579

This is where I buy beauty products for my kit as well as my favorite concealers and I love their brand of cream foundation.

Walmart
They have some of the best prices for the same things that you can get at the drugstores. I always stock up on the Banana Boat Summer Color Self-tanner in Deep Dark color at Walmart because it’s usually around only $6. I also buy my favorite mascara there the Loreal voluminous mascara.

Amazon.com
A great place to find beauty products for a lot cheaper, such as some of the bronzes/self tanners that I like to use. Just make sure you check the ratings and who you are buying from.

Beauty.com
A great way to buy beauty and drugstore brands that you are familiar with already. If you want to stock up, or avoid making a trip to the store for products you already love, this is a great way to online shop.

Saks Fifth Avenue

Has a few brands that the other beauty stores don’t, some of the higher end makeup lines like that I like including Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Kevyn Aucoin.

Where do you mainly shop for beauty products? Tell me what your favorites are, and where you buy them?

Day 4: Hawaii Polo Match + Trish McEvoy Makeup

14 Jun

On our day off here in Hawaii we got invited to a Polo Match! This was very exciting for me, since I’ve never seen a polo match, other than in the movie Pretty Woman.

Me watching the polo match

I am going to share with you some of the fun details of this event, where it was, what I wore, etc.  But what I really want to share with you is the free makeup that I received in the gift bags! Because you know me, I love beauty!

Makeup by Trish McEvoy!

A little bit about the polo match:

The Invitation to the Polo Match

The polo field is gorgeous and located right on the beach of Oahu’s beautiful North Shore. To see more, visit their website at http://hawaii-polo.org/

This is what the polo match looked like.

Apparently every polo Sunday you can watch the best players and ponies in the state and from around the world play the ‘sport of kings.’ The gates open at noon on Sundays and games start around 2 pm.

It all started with the pony parade and then moved on to the polo game with exciting half-time activities including skydive stunts and a fashion show! It was sponsored by Mercedes and Porche, so they had the brand new cars drive out onto the field in the opener with the horses!

For all the VIP attendee’s the dress code was ALL WHITE!

We arrived early, so the tables are still empty, but as you can see, every thing is white themed in the VIP area!

How fun? I love white parties, and never wear white because it always gets dirty so fast, so I think for special occasions that it’s great! I wore a big floppy hat that my wonderful friend Katerina Van Derham gave me for my birthday, and attached a white flower to it.

For my outfit, I wanted to wear something sophisticated yet girlie and cute . . .

So I wore a white silk blouse from Banana Republic paired with a blush colored tulle skirt from H&M. I figured since the pink was so light, that it would still look kind of white, and yet, frilly and girlie.

I wore tan wedges from Aldo that are comfortable and wedges are easier to walk around on the grass in. I bought these wedges last year, and they still sell them here: online.  I love them because they are super comfortable & go with so many outfits for summer!

ALDO T-strap sandal in Cognac $70.00

For my accessories I wore my right hand rings for sparkle,  along with cheapy pearl & gold bead bracelets that I got from Forever21 on my left wrist, a Chanel gold and pearl necklace & Chanel mother of pearl CC earrings to class it up! ;)

I bought this vintage white leather waist belt years ago, but never quite found the perfect outfit to pair it with. Luckily, I never got rid of it because finally I had the perfect outfit for it! It cinched the blouse around my waist nicely and pulled the outfit together.

I wanted a small purse because I knew that I would be carrying it around all day, so I brought my small Gucci purse. I loved that my purse had pink leather around the zipper and straps to match with the pink skirt with gold details to match my jewelry!

Me and some of the girls before arriving at the match:

And now, THE MAKEUP!
Upon leaving the event, VIP guest were given a gift bag. To my favor, it was MAKEUP! I got super excited and pulled it all out to see what it was right away! I got a Lipstick Crayon, Eyeliner, and Lip balm from Trish McEvoy.
When I got back to my room, I looked up Trish McEvoy because I had heard the name before, but wasn’t familiar with any of the brand’s products. I looked up the products that I had been given and here’s what I found.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Essential Pencil-Baby Pink
I tried this pencil right away on my lips. I got it in BABY PINK color, but it was more of a shimmery medium pink. Nice, but not as natural as I had hoped for. But I would love to try some of the other colors, they look really nice, and this lip pencil went on smooth and moisturizing. I love that they suggest that this can also be used on cheeks as a cream blush, because I think this shade would be perfect for that use. I would just use this as a lipstick, but if you have to use it as a liner, at least it’s big enough to deter you from making the obvious lip liner mistake.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Beauty Booster Lip Balm SPF 15
I love that this lip balm has Spf 15 in it, I love products that aid in anti aging! Since I’m in Hawaii where it’s gorgeous outside, I’ve been needing a spf for my lips, so this one is perfect. It smelled and felt a lot like Carmex brand lip balms, but I like this tube container better. It is easier and more girly to apply this way. A great free gift!
____________________________________________________________________________________
On the Trish McEvoy website I found a video on how to apply this GEL eyeliner, she explained that it is good to use right in the lash line by lifting the upper eyelid up and making small dots and connecting them. The eyeliner that I received did not have the little smudger tip on the opposite end of the pencil like the full size does, I think mine was more of a sample size. But I tried using it in a similar manor and it applied really well. The pencil is smooth and richly pigmented. I applied it before flying home to Los Angeles, and it was still on and in place when I landed. This was my favorite makeup item that I received in the gift bag.

Pre-Loved Luxury

CHANEL window display in London store front

I’m not a millionaire, and I’ve always tried to be realistic with the material things. Although I do love designer items, I still shop at forever21. And I know not everyone can afford expensive things, but we all want them.  So I wanted to give you ladies out there another option for purchasing designer goods. There is nothing wrong with a little pre-love. It’s like a used car. If it’s in good condition, it’s brand new to you! Of course I like my brand new designer pieces, but I also think that it is smart to find it at a better price if possible. Sometimes you can even find brand new, never been used “pre-loved” pieces.

Louis Vuitton in London

Below is a list of where I like to online shop for designer bags, shoes, clothes and accessories. Great accessories that can be worn everyday can make an outfit. Save some money when investing in luxury items by buying pre-owned. They also have some great vintage pieces if you collect! The prices aren’t too far from the originals on some items, but it’s nice to get atleast a few hundred dollars off.  Also, if you really hunt you can find some great deals. Just be patient and check back often. I’ve purchased 2 gorgeous pairs of Chanel Earrings, a never been worn pair of Fendi shoes, and a Gucci Scarf with the tags still on it from a few of these sites, and these are items that I love and use all the time!

Wall of CHANEL at Selfridges in London

When shopping for pre-loved designer items make sure you do a little research. Find out what the original price is if it isn’t listed on the for sale page. Also make sure that you read all of the descriptions and conditions, and view the photos to make sure that the item isn’t damaged or something that you may not really want. Each item is usually rated for condition, and try to buy in excellent condition.  Also, if there is an item that you LOVE and have to have, try to buy it asap. Sometimes the good items go really fast, so don’t let it slip away.

My name on the wall of the CHANEL store in London.

Here are some good places that I check out every once in a while to see if they have anything good! I haven’t  ordered from all of them, so I can’t rate them all, but the first 2 I have, and they are really great, I’ve been super happy with my purchases!

http://www.fashionphile.com/

http://www.yoogiscloset.com

http://www.luxuryexchange.com

http://www.portero.com/

http://www.malleries.com/

Don’t order from this one, I was really unhappy with my purchases that said they were in excellent condition, but when I got them, they were in poor condition. They obviously don’t know how to rate the condition of their items.

www.therealreal.com

Here is another site, that you can shop at for designer items, but they are still the brand new ones, but on sale! This website takes sale items from many different stores  and links you to them. So you can go on this site and see where all the sale items are. MyPerfectSale is an online shopping destination dedicated to designer apparel and accessories. You only have to sign up with your email to view their website.

http://www.myperfectsale.com

Please let me know if you know of any other good sites and I will add them to the list. Also, let me know what you end up purchasing from these sites!

Self Esteem & Beauty Routine

13 Jun

“I love the confidence that makeup gives me.”-Tyra Banks

”Makeup is a way for a woman to look and feel like herself, only prettier and more confident.” – Bobbi Brown

Beauty Routine for Confidence:
My fiance is always wondering why I insist on needing 2 hours to get ready. He typically just wants me to continue cuddling with him, but I need to hop up and start doing my thing.

I know how ridiculous it sounds for it to take 2 hours to get ready to go somewhere. And, of course, I have my extremely shortened versions when I need to go somewhere fast, I can get out the door in no time!

But for me, my beauty routine is a time for me to be creative and relax, it is my everyday therapy & meditation time.  I need enough time, so I don’t feel rushed, so that I can take the time to feel beautiful.

According to an Allure Magazine survey, “97 % of women say they feel more confident when they use their favorite beauty products.” I’m not encouraging you to go out and constantly spend money on beauty products, I’m simply sharing with you what helps me feel good. What helps me feel good, is taking the time to care for myself and beautifying myself.

Recently, one of my beautiful girl friends has been going through a really rough time with her self-esteem and confidence. Looking at her you would wonder why, because she is gorgeous, super talented, and has a really sweet heart. I think everyone struggles with this at some point in their lives. Feeling bad about yourself, feeling like you aren’t good enough, pretty enough, comparing themselves to others. PLEASE DON’T do that to yourself. Even I have insecurities and days where I don’t feel pretty, but I don’t let it eat at me. It can destroy you. You are who you are, and you need to accept that. Luckily, there are things that you can do to help.

Here is what I do on those days, and I do a little bit of this everyday for myself. . . I find that it helps in some way to spend some time on myself. It’s sort of an anti-insecurity day, by shopping for new makeup, hair products, by simply applying my makeup in a new way, doing my nails, spa treatments, a new hair cut, etc. Taking the time to do these things for yourself can boost your confidence. They really do help a little bit with feeling good about yourself. Obviously, it won’t solve all of your problems, those are within and mentally you need to work on it, but I think that when you do something of this nature, it can put you in a better mental state and in the right direction.

So, back to what I was telling you about my friend, she called me up right before I was leaving town for Hawaii and asked me if when I’m back from my trip, if I could go with her to help her pick out some new makeup and help her update her beauty routine. She said that she thought it might help with the way she feels. Of course, I got excited and told her yes! I love to help my friends and I love makeup! It really got me thinking about what I do to have good self esteem, and I realized that the majority of it is spending the time to look good, which helps me to feel good.  I think that she is being so smart about trying to help herself feel better.

As a kid, my parents would set me up at the crafts table to do an art project. I would be sitting there quiet for hours coloring in shrinky dinks, molding animals out of fimo clay, or tracing Fashion Plates. I have graduated this need for creativity and focused it on myself. Every time I put on makeup I try different colors, techniques and styles. It is my grown up version of this kind of creativity. Not only does it allow me to be creative, but I feel good about focusing on myself, and giving myself some pampering. It is soothing, and makes me feel good about myself. That’s also why I became a Makeup Artist, I love to beautify other women as well. There is something so rewarding about seeing someone else so happy with the way they look. I get so much satisfaction from sharing what I know and love with other women. This is also why I started this blog. ;)

Between satisfying my creative nature and my boosting my self confidence, I end up frequently testing out new makeup and skincare products, figuring out new techniques and ways of achieving beautiful results.  I am mainly self taught when it comes to beauty, trial and error is what I like to do, and I like to share my successes on this blog with you. I encourage you to try the same thing if you so please.

Maybe this sounds stupid to some of you, maybe you don’t need makeup to feel beautiful, or maybe some of you don’t care about being beautiful, and I think that is so great. I’m happy for you. But this is for the women out there in the world that want a little bit of help. This is how I handle it, this is what I do, this is what makes me feel good. So, maybe it will help you too?

Take a little extra time on yourself out of your busy life, organize your makeup collection, shop for new makeup brushes at my online store, or test out one of my How-to’s to start. For those of you that already take your time getting ready, be proud that you find enjoyment in this, recognize this as a good thing, a meditation. Men may never understand why it takes us so long to get ready, and you don’t have to rationalize it. Some “me” time is always good, life is too short, so use your time wisely and be happy.

Love,

Sunset Blonde

MY HAIR TOOLS

12 Jun

I have been getting so many requests for hair tutorials and what I use to do my hair. I haven’t had the chance to to a tutorial video yet, but at the very least I wanted to share which tools I use. Just like with makeup brushes, I believe that if you don’t have the right tools, you wont get the same/best results. Therefore, I figured you girls would be interested to see what I use.

There are 5 main tools that I use almost every time I style my hair. And not just any curling iron or straightener will do. You have to find the right ones. Most girls that I know, don’t use the right curling iron, let alone know how to use it.

THE BRUSHES:

I have 3 brushes that I like to use. A paddle brush (Hot Tools Pink Titanium Paddle Brush) used mainly during blow drying, a round brush (Conair Tourmaline Ceramic Large Round Porcupine Brush) that I use to style my bangs while blow drying, and a TIGI Bed Head Clean Freak Tourmaline “Split Personality Styler” brush that I use when I’m traveling because it is a 2-in-1 brush. Even when I’m at home I will use the SPS instead of the other 2 brushes because it is easier. I love this brush.

Hot Tools Pink Titanium Paddle Brush

Conair Tourmaline Ceramic Large Round Porcupine Brush)

TIGI Bed Head Clean Freak Tourmaline “Split Personality Styler” brush

THE CURLING IRONS:

I also love having a selection of different size curling irons. Seeing them sitting there all lined up and seeing the options! Love. They look so alike, but each one gives a slightly different result, so depending on your mood or the occasion you can be creative in the way you curl your hair.

Now, a curling iron is not just a curling iron. . . I’ve never found a better brand than Hot Tools curling irons. They are well priced, and I recommend trying to buy yours on sale since they go on sale often. For the money, these are the best! What I love about them is not only are they easy to use and affordable, they work very well. What makes them work better than other curling irons? The durability of them, as well as the adjustable heat setting. I highly recommend that you get all of your hair tools with an adjustable heat setting, mine have it, this is important to protect your hair. They also have a few different types of curling irons, in many different sizes.

I have 3 curling irons, but the one I use most frequently is the 1-1/4″ Professional Spring Iron for large, loose curls by Hot Tools. I have it in the classic black & gold, and also the Titanium and Pink. I also have the 1″ Professional Spring Iron for full curls and waves, and the 1-1/2″ Professional Spring Iron for longer hair and creating extra-large, loose curls and waves.

1″ Professional Spring Iron for full curls and waves

These curling irons have a Soft-Grip™ textured handle, adjustable temperatures up to 430° F (220° C), a powerful spring clamp, Extra-high heat, 24K gold-plated barrel or Titanium surface (on the pink one), Fast heat-up, Heavy-duty long-life heating element, Foldaway safety stand, Extra-long cool tip, 8-ft. heavy-duty tangle-proof swivel cord, & On / Off switch.

I always buy mine from ULTA:

THE FLAT IRON:

I have this flat iron in 2 sizes, the 1 inch ($99) and 1.5 inch ($140).

The Croc LED Black Titanium 1″ Flat Iron“Croc Classic Titanium iron has 1″ plates for easy styling of all hair lengths. Ceramic heating elements provide effortless styling, healthy shiny hair, quick heat recovery. Provides negative ions to seal in moisture. Auto 30 minute shut off and 4 heat settings from 280* to 450* for long lasting styles. Smooth titanium plates.”

The Croc LED Black Titanium 1″ Flat Iron

The Croc Regular Black 1.5″ Flat Iron

Croc Classic Titanium for all keratin treatments 1″ Black Titanium Plates for easy styling. “Croc Classic Titanium iron has 1 1/2″ plates for easy styling on long hair. Ceramic heating elements provide effortless styling, healthy shiny hair and generate far infrared heat and negative ions to seal in moisture. Auto 30 minute shut off and 18 heat settings for all types of hair. Creates silky shiny hair and long lasting styles. “

I love these straighteners and think they are the best. My hair glides though them easily, and when using these on clients I can adjust the heat setting to suit their hair. I always use these on the lowest heat settings of 280 degrees for my fragile hair, but they get as hot as 450 degrees. They have digital adjustable heat settings so you can see exactly what temperature it’s at. It heats up really quickly and has an auto shut off, so you don’t ever accidentally leave it on. (Which I’ve been known to do with my curling irons…I wish those had auto shut off!)
I also bought these flat irons at ULTA.
THE HAIR DRYER:
I am not the most organized person, but I try really hard to be, and so when I am getting ready in the morning and I am styling my hair, I have cords, tools, hairbrushes, styling products all over the counter.  To combat this disaster, when shopping for a new hair dryer I came across the retractable cord kind, and figured that I would try it out. The Conair Cord Keeper 1875 Watt Styler Dryer 241 is the one I ended up getting. There is a similar model if you can’t find the one I have, or if you want it in a different color.  It was so cheap only $20! Not only does the cord disappear with the push of a button, but the dry works fantastic. It has multiple heat settings, and gets really hot which I love. It also has a cool shot, and nozzle attachments. For around $25 it’s a great value. It’s not super quiet, or really fancy, it’s just a hair dryer. But I like the cord feature and it’s a MUST to have a dryer with heat settings.

Hope this helps you girls figure out what tools to use for styling your hair like mine. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask, I always try to personally get back to each comment. Thanks for reading!

Day 2 On Location: Hawaiian Beach Bikini Photo Shoot

Below is a photo of all of the crew setting up the shot. You can see me with my set bag perfecting the model’s hair before she starts shooting.

The weather starting out this morning didn’t go as well as hoped on day 2. Up at 4am to start hair and makeup on the new model, only to get to our location at 6am, and wait around for an hour to see if the sky would clear up  to get some nice sunlight to shoot.

I took a photo of the sky around 6:30am, the sun is just barely visible through the oncoming clouds. The ground below is dark, and there isn’t enough natural light to properly shoot the model with.

Our model of the day was Julia Docherty. She was a great sport running back and forth in and out of the pop up changing tent to stay dry from the rain. Below in a photo of the pop up changing tent. It’s convenient but rare to have a tent like this on location. But it is great for model’s to change inside of when on a public beach for some privacy and rapid outfit changes. Just wanted to show you this because it’s kind of a neat invention that makes on location shoots more comfortable for a model.

Soon after we changed locations to shoot at the Aqua Nui House. This is the photographer’s house that we are staying at. This is a shot of the back of the house, the ocean & beach are the backyard, which makes it a perfect shoot location!

This is the gorgeous model for Day 2, Julia Docherty, a D cup swimsuit model that fills out the Sunsets Inc. swimsuits nicely. She was stunning, and had amazing eyes. In the photo below you can see how I styled her hair and did her makeup for the shoot. I played up her eyes, contoured her cheeks and gave her a nude/natural lip. Her hair was styled with soft beachy curls and sexy side swept bangs. This hairstyle was hard to keep looking fresh and perfect on her because of her fine hair type. 4 touch-ups where required to re-curl her hair throughout the day, and lots of hairspray was used!

Her eyeshadow was a Metallic Eye shadow in a green shade from Bobbie Brown called Sage which I blended into her creases and under the outer corners of her eyes. I used Bone also By Bobbie Brown and blended it onto her lids and brow bone.

In Julia’s hair I added some clip-in hair extensions to keep her hair looking fuller and curled, since hair extensions hold curl really well.

I used a combination of all 3 of these hairsprays throughout the day for controlling frizz and flyways, as well as for hold during re-curling.

Below is a photo of me touching up her hair in between shots, standing behind as shade panel that is known as a scrim. Photographers use a scrim to shade the model from direct sunlight, it’s basically a lighting tool.

She is wearing faux lashes, and Loreal Voluminous Mascara in carbon black, and Kevyn Aucoin The Eye Pencil Primatif in Black on top lashline only and blended.

I applied Makeup Forever HD Foundation in color #123, with a custom powder to set it that I made with yellow undertones to match her tan.

I used MAC Bronzer in GOLDEN under her cheekbones and jawline for contouring with the FANCY CHEEKY BRUSH from SUNSET BLONDE, and Kevyn Aucoin blush in Dolline on her upper cheeks.

Kevyn Aucoin The Pure Powder Glow – Dolline which I find to be the perfect matte apricot shade:

Julia needed a long lasting lip color for her lips so I made a custom color for her from Loreal Infallible Lipsticks in #812 Opulent Organza & #423 Perpetual Peach. These have nice staying power and go on creamy. Both of these colors are great to use by themselves and look great if you want a natural color for many skin tones. #812 is more of a matte berry color, and #423 is a shimmery peachy pink. I think that a combination of the 2 makes a perfect shade.

An on-set trick from Sunset Blonde:  It might look weird, but works great! I like to take a small amount of lipstick with me to go in a Disposable container when on location, instead taking the entire lipstick with me and risking a meltdown in my “on-set” bag in the blazing sun.  I’ve come up with a great idea for those plastic containers that false lashes come in, I smear a small amount of lipstick straight from the tube onto the plastic & Go! This not only keeps my lipsticks sanitary, and from melting, but it allows me to keep a separate tray of lipstick for each model that is portable. Great idea to reuse an item you might normally trash.

At photo shoots there are usually racks of bikinis, stacks of accessories and it can get pretty messy. This company is great in that they neatly hang up the bikinis with matching cover-ups, and attached to the hangers in plastic bags are the accessories nicely matched up for each outfit change that have been selected prior to the shoot day. This organization strategy speeds up the changing time in between shots, and makes it easy for the stylists and models to know what the complete next outfit is. I love it when designers are super organized and time efficient!

As I described in Day 1, I love my on-set bag, so I thought I would take some photos of my actual bag so that you can see me wearing it, and what I am able to fit in it! I like to wear it across my body so that I don’t have to worry about it falling off my shoulder. As you can see, I have a lot of useful items for touch ups, brushes, hairspray, compacts, bug spray, even a favorite of mine… coconut water for hydration.  This bag also makes a great travel toiletry bag for the travel lovers reading this!

By late morning the sun was shining high in the sky and we pushed through a lot of shooting. I had to blur out the model on the far left, so that you can’t see her bikini, because they will not be released until July, so I have to keep them a secret ;)

I will be modeling on day 3 & 4…so stay tuned for more photos and info!

Day 1 On Location: Hawaiian Beach Bikini Photo Shoot

10 Jun

Welcome to the wonderful world of Behind the Scenes via Sunset Blonde. . . I am on location this week in Oahu, Hawaii on the tropical North Shore! We are here with Sunsets Inc, shooting several of their swimwear lines & I am here as a Makeup Artist on some days, and as a model on others!

I will be blogging in a series about each day. Every day is different, with different models, different locations around the Island, different beauty tips from me, and more!

This week will be an adventure, and for those of you that have never been behind the scenes of a photo shoot, my goals is to share it with you! There is lots to tell you about, so let’s get started:

(Above Photo: Sunrise in Oahu the morning of our shoot. We got ready super early and waited for the sun to be just right to start shooting)

On location catalog photo shoots are very difficult. Lots of product to shoot (outfits), with the hassle of the elements. Wind, rain, humidity, sweat & hot sun, ocean, sand can all be factors in ruining a good hair do, or fresh face of makeup. As glamorous as it might look, a lot of work goes into these shoots from many different people. Photographer, several photo assistants, a technology guy, Swimwear designers, Models, Makeup Artists, Marketing department, all flying into an exotic location to create these beautiful images that sell bikinis.

(Photo: Me holding the umbrella, this is a crew shot after wrapping last year’s BSwim photo shoot, and all the people that made it happen!)

 THE Photographer: MICHAELVOORHEES.COM

I have worked with Michael Voorhees several times before, and I always love working with him. Professional, efficient, fun, and so talented! I love working behind the scenes, and in front of the camera when he is shooting. He has a great crew which makes our shoots easier and more enjoyable. We are so lucky to be able to shoot here in Hawaii at his gorgeous beach house on the ocean. This is my 3rd time shooting here in Oahu with him, and every time is a honor. See more of Michael’s work at MICHAELVOORHEES.COM  and check out the house we are staying at and shooting at Aquanui.com

Luckily, some products work better than others to combat the elements that you might be faced with, as well as good technique and time for touch ups every once in a while. Here are a few of the great products that I used as a MAKEUP ARTIST on the Models this week in Hawaii for a bikini photo shoot that have with held the test of the “beach photo shoot”

Eyelash curler by Shu Umera. Normally I hate using lash curlers, but on the beach it comes in handy.  A great Lash curler is important to keep the model’s eyes looking open in the bright sunlight. Lashes can tend to look heavy and eyes look closed when the sun is super bright and high in the sky. Model’s with light colored eyes have more sensitivity to the sunlight, so curling their lashes up more helps to make their eyes look open. Photographers and models usually work together to combat this issue by using the “1, 2, 3…. Open your eyes while I shoot for a few seconds” method. This works and gives more successful results.

We started the first day at 4am. I rose and tried to shine at 3;50am to make our gorgeous model of the day even more flawless. Ashley Alexander is a beautiful fashion model that I had the pleasure of doing her makeup and hair. Here is Ashley refreshing with watermelon between shots.

I curled her hair with a flat iron in the fancy-oh-so-impressive way that I do, and pinned it with bobby pins to set it while I did her makeup. I used Rusk Radical Hairspray before curling it, and at the roots to give volume, and I teased her roots at the crown before finishing. Then I used Rusk Being Sexy Hairspray to finish and hold her style.

The wind was a major enemy of ours today. Not the worst I’ve seen at shoots, but facing the wrong direction, the model would get a face full of hair, or it would be sticking up in some wild way. So having a variety of different types of spray is helpful.

Below is a photo of me touching up Ashley’s hair on the beach in between shots.

I like a more natural look when it comes to hair, let it fly and take shots until it works, but today we were pressed for time, and the Boss likes it to be perfect. So the Rusk Being Sexy Hairspray and a brush where my most used tools today. We tried our best to position Ashley  into the wind, so that it worked in our favor as much a possible by blowing her hair away from her face and giving more volume and movement to her hair.

The Set Bag: In the above photo you can see that I have a bag that I am wearing. I carry all my on-set necessities in this cool looking clear and pink messenger tote that I purchased at the LA Makeup Show this summer. Of course, I had to get a pink one! It has an adjustable strap that I can wear comfortably cross-body, and fits everything that I need perfectly. I can carry at least 2 cans of hairspray, a water bottle, brushes, combs, powders, Makeup brushes, lipsticks, Sunblock, bug spray, and much more! It’s easy to find everything inside of it because it’s clear, and it also has individual zipper pockets for the smaller items. I highly recommend this bag for EVERY Makeup Artist. It’s also great for girls that travel or want to be super organized with some of their favorite beauty products. Here is what it looks like up close:

I have the pink one, but it comes in 5 colors for you to choose from:

Here is a sample of what it looks like with stuff in it:

Today I used all of my fabulous Sunset Blonde Beauty Brushes, plus a few new styles that I just got in to test them out on set and they were AMAZING! I can’t wait to share them with you! As for the ones that are already available, those worked like a dream. Her makeup held up so well, and went on smooth as silk.

I used Makeup Forever HD Foundation, and mixed # 123 & #128 to custom match her skin tone.

To conceal her under eye circles I used Kevyn Aucoin’s  “THE SENSUAL SKIN ENHANCER” MAKEUP in SX07. Which you can read more about it from me here.

I used a custom loose finishing powder that I made to match the more yellow tones in the self tanner she had on her skin, which I applied allover to her face with the FANCY FACE Brush. This brush is also really great for powdering between shots and getting rid of shine, which you can see I did today…

With a MAC Bronzer in Golden I contoured her cheeks using the FANCY CHEEKY Brush, and taking the same brush, used an apricot blush The Pure Powder Glow in Dolline by Kevyn Aucoin to dust over her cheeks and blend down to the contouring for a natural glow and color.

On her lips I used a lipstick from the Kevyn Aucoin Beauty ‘Lip & Cheek – The Corals’ Makeup Palette. The one on the far right… I applied it with the BABY BULLET BRUSH from Sunset Blonde. Not only is this a great brush to use for eyeshadow, but it also makes a great lipstick brush. The small point allows you to be precise, but the softness and fluffiness of it applies lip color smoothly.

I filled in the Model’s blonde eyebrows with a blonde brow powder for a soft effect.  By Elizabeth Arden Dual Perfection Brow Shaper in Blonde with the NEW BROW BEAUTY Brush by Sunset Blonde. This brush has stiff bristles to shape and fill in brows, and is even great for just combing brows into place. Coming soon….

I’m not allowed to show you any of the shots from the photo shoot due to that fact that they haven’t release the new bikinis yet, but Ashley and I played around with her iphone taking some behind the scenes shots of her gorgeous self. You can see her makeup & hair here:

Ashley loved the new Fancy Face Brushes by Sunset Blonde!!!! Get them on SALE at sunsetblonde.com

Today was a great day, we got really lucky with plenty of sunshine. Although the afternoon was pretty scorching. I only had to dust powder on the Ashley’s forehead twice, for which I used a compact of translucent powder by Too Faced “Absolutely Invisible Powder.” for easy touch ups on the go, and is a nice fine powder that keeps makeup looking fresh when dusted on with the FANCY FACE BRUSH.

It’s no wonder they call it TURTLE BAY around here, there were live sea turtles up on the shore that paid us a visit during our photo shoot this afternoon. We even took advantage and shot some photos with the chill creatures.

It was a 13 hour day for me and the model. But we made it through in a gorgeous kind of way with the help of some of my beauty secrets and some miraculous products!!

Gorgeous bikini models, sunshine, sea turtles, palm trees and, makeup…. I love my job…4 more days in paradise. Also check out day #2 blog post of Hawaiian Beach Bikini Photo shoot. I will be Modeling on day 3 & 4!

What’s in your makeup?

10 Jun

Is your makeup safe? What is in your makeup & beauty products exactly?

Considering that I am a Makeup Artist, Model, and general lover of beauty, I’m always looking for new products or makeup to enhance beauty. Unfortunately, there is a lot of controversy and hazards that we don’t even realize when it comes to using all of these beauty products. I did some research, and I wanted to share this website that I came across that rates products based on a few different health factors. Check it out and tell me what you think?

Click on the link below, then in the search box on the home page, type in the beauty product that you would like to look up.

It’s called EWG;s Skin Deep Cosmetic Database

http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/

Also, what do you guys think about this subject?

Do you know of any other resources like this?

It interests me because I always care about health and I know that some products are such scams. I always try to read ingredients and be more aware.

BARBIE INSPIRED MAKEUP

5 Jun

Barbie Inspired Makeup, Farrah Fawcet Inspired Hair

Sometimes some of my friends call me a Real Life Barbie, so this inspired me to do some Barbie Inspired Makeup!

Here are the products that I used for this look…

(No photoshop)

FOUNDATION:  I used was by Makeup Forever HD Invisible Cover Foundation in shade #128 Almond. A nice TAN color, with yellow undertones that matches my dark self tan.

The Gossamer Loose Powder by Kevyn Aucoin in shade Radiant Diaphanous Applied with the FANCY FACE BRUSH by Sunset Blonde

LIPSTICK: Smashbox Be Legendary lipstick in “Pout” which is a bumblegum pink shade.

LIPGLOSS: Over the lipstick I added a layer of Pink Lip Gloss by Bare Esscentuals in “7 layer cake” which I buy when I go to Norway, because Sephora doesn’t carry this color. But I found it for you online at the Bare Essentials website

EYEBROWS: Eyebrows are filled in with Makeup Forever Waterproof Eyebrow Correcter in #0 Blonde & and recycled mascara wand*. I squirt out a line of the eyebrow corrector onto the back of my hand and coat the wand in it on all sides, then brush the want bristles into my eyebrows in the direction of the hairs being careful to only get it on my eyebrows. This fills them in nicely and looks more natural than a pencil and lasts longer than a powder.

*Tip: Before throwing out your old/used mascara, remove the wand and wash it clean under warm soap and water and dry it off with a clean towel. You can now use this clean mascara wand to smooth and shape your eyebrows, declump and separate lashes, tame fly-aways, or apply eyebrow color (as mentioned above). And you are finding a new use for something you would have just thrown away! Be Green!

EYE MAKEUP: I applied the eyeshadow with the Deluxe Crease brush from Sunset Blonde first into the crease, and blended it with the Soft Blender Brush by Sunset Blonde.

Deluxe Crease Brush from SUNSET BLONDE:

Soft Blender Brush from SUNSET BLONDE:

EYESHADOW: Eyeshadow from LORAC in “Garnet”. You can buy it for $9.00 at Ulta. I applied it only in crease and outer corners, just like my Signature eye How-to. This eyeshadow color is really great for Blue eyes, it is a contrasting color that really makes blue eyes Pop! It also looks really burgendy in the pot, but when applied and blended the color changes slightly, which I like. The eyeshadow only applied to the top eyelids. NO mascara or eyeshadow undereyes.

You could also try it in “AFTER PARTY” which looks sort of similar:

LASHES: Individual lashes applied to entire top eyelid evenly to add natural looking volume to my lashes. I used the FLARE SHORT BLACK lashes from DURALASH by Ardell. I used 24 lashes in total, 12 on each eye. I applied them with a small tweezer by gently removing them from the tray by grabbling them at the base of the lash with the tweezer. After removing the lash from the tray I set it down and grab it by the end flare of the lash so that you can dip the tip into the glue and apply to the base of your lashes. I used the clear-white DUO adhesive glue for applying the individual lashes, this glue will wash off with soap and water.

Mascara: Loreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black applied only to top lashes & false lashes to blend the false and real lashes together.

CONCEALER:  I used my Dermacolor Concealer under my eyes on the dark circles.

CONTOURING AND BLUSH ON CHEEKS: was applied with the Sunset Blonde Fancy Cheeky Brushes, one for blush & one for bronzer. You need two brushes, so you don’t muddy the colors together.

BRONZER: The bronzer that I used is from Benefit in HOOLA. It is a great matte shade for contouring cheeks with the Fancy Cheeky Brush. I applied this bronzer BEFORE applying blush by using a FANCY CHEEKY Brush from SUNSET BLONDE. Dust the brush into bronzer and apply under your cheekbones holding the brush angled downwards, sweeping the brush horizontally back and forth to blend and build color.

BLUSH: is from Physicians Formula HAPPY in the color PINK, I love the little hearts and the scent is so nice, plus it’s a really pinky shade with subtle shimmer, perfect for a Barbie inspired look.

I applied the blush with the Fancy Cheeky Brush right on my cheekbone and very sublty to the apples of my cheeks. Here is what it should look like when you apply bronzer to contour your cheeks, and then a pop of pink blush blended above the contouring:

With FLUFFED UP HAIR, Farrah Fawcet inspired, easy to do, just curl hair in the direction away from your face and tease up with a brush similar to this (and of course you have to use a pink brush!!)

To explain this is a little tricky, the best way I can think to describe how to do this is for you to grab a 4 inch section of your hair and the very ends. Hold the hair at the very bottom with one hand and in your other hand, use the brush to gently brush upward 1 inch at a time from underneath, so it is gently teasing a large section of your hair. This gives a lot of bounce and volume to your hair. Just try not to make too much of a knotty mess. Be gentle and do it slowly.

Hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Make Your Own NUDE Nail Polish

4 Jun

I love Bare Minerals, you can read about it in previous posts, so when I came across this amazingly creative idea in a magazine, I HAD to try it!! It worked great, and so I wanted to share it with you!

_____________________________________________________________________

You can make your own custom nude nail polish color by mixing your Mineral Foundation with an ivory or cream shade of nail polish. I tried it out on an old bottle of nail polish that I got at Ulta, it was kind of an ivory color that I used to use for French Manicures.

Here’s what you need:

1. Bare Mineral Powder Foundation

2. Ivory or cream colored nail polish

3. A spatula

I scooped about 4 spatulas of the Bare Minerals Foundation into the nail polish, and then screwed the cap back on. (see below=1 scoop on the spatula)

Shake it up until fully mixed. You can start to see the nail polish color change colors to a nude shade.

My nails naturally have a bluish purple color to them as you can see in the photo below. It is especially blue when I am cold, which I think looks really weird. So I love the idea of a nude color that matches my skin tone! Pictured below, left is my nail with only clear polish on, and the right 2 nails are painted with one coat of the new nude shade of nail polish that I just made.

Here is what it looks like on my nails after 1 coat:

Here is what it looks like after 2 coats of polish:

A few days later I did my nails again, and wanted to paint them using the same new nude nail polish color that I made, but wanted to make it more shimmery instead of such a matte nude. So it tried adding 1 coat of “show me the ring” by Essie Nail color over 2 coats of the BM nude nail color.

Here is how it came out, “show me the ring” is sort of a sheer white-gold shade, and so layering it over the nude made it look like a shimmery golden nude color.

So pretty, and really nice neutral shade for my photoshoots.

What a great new use for Bare Minerals and to revamp an old nail polish color! I’m also going to try and see what happens if I add it to a bright pink color or red….

Let me know if you try this, and what you think!

Thanks for reading!

Long Lash Problems: MASCARA MISTAKES!!

3 Jun

“I have long eye lashes and always tend to get mascara on my eyelid when applying mascara. I do this after my eyeshadow so it then ruins my eyeshadow when I try to get it off with a q-tip. Any tips on how to avoid this??

Thanks

-Jessica “

Jessica,

The best way is prevention! I never run into this problem personally, because my lashes are short, and there is a lot of space between my eyelids and my eyebrows. But my sister has this issue and so I interviewed her this morning on how she deals with this problem, and what she does to prevent a mascara mess. She has become good at it because she loves wearing eyeshadow and mascara.

This is also a great tip, not only for women with Long eyelashes, but also women that have a small eyelid, with not a lot of space between their lash line and their eyebrows.

Here is how to prevent getting mascara on your eyelids after you have already applied eyeshadow and eyeliner:

First of all, my sister said that a CURVED MASCARA WAND is a MUST to avoid mascara mistakes! You have to use a curved brush! Helps to be more precise and hugs your lashes, preventing mistakes. It also gives you a little lift and curl. You will have a lot more control with a curved brush.

Straight mascara wands tend to make a big mess when you have long lashes. Using a curved brush you have more control and also helps to curl and shape your lashes in the correct direction.

She recommends using:

Maybelline GREAT LASH Mascara, CURVED BRUSH.

She likes this mascara because it not only has a curved brush that helps her prevent mascara mistakes, but is lightweight and doesn’t clump. It gives her a natural look on her long lashes.

Here are steps to help you achieve applying mascara without mistakes:

1. Tilt head back, open mouth slightly as you look straight ahead into the mirror. Almost like you are looking down. This puts more space between your lashes and your eyelids.

2. While tilting your head really far back, begin applying mascara and try your best not to blink while applying your mascara. Immediately look down and relax while allowing your mascara to dry.

3. To speed up the drying process, use a blowdryer on a cool setting (always use a cool setting) to dry your mascara.

4. Another tip, if you want to curl your lashes is to curl your eyelashes gently AFTER applying mascara. Please don’t press the curler closed all the way, otherwise you will get a hard crease. Plus you run the risk of the mascara sticking to the lash curler and ripping out your lashes. So try to avoid pulling out your lashes. Curling your lashes after applying mascara prevents your lashes from hitting your lids even more.

5. Another option, if simply leaning your head back doesn’t work try this:  When you tilt your head back, use your index finger in a hook shape in front of your eyelid, resting your hand on your cheek to steady your hand.

Try to avoid pressing your finger against your eyelid so that you don’t mess up your eyeshadow. But use your finger to block the lashes from touching your eyelid. It is much easier to remove mascara from your finger, than using a q-tip after to fix mistakes and retouch eyeshadow on your lids.

Girls, try this and let me know if you have any other techniques or tips on how to solve this issue!

Special thanks to my beautiful sister Shaina (left) for your input and answers to this common LONG LASH PROBLEM!

Wedding Day Beauty

3 Jun

Now that I have a wedding to plan, one of the biggest concerns of mine is my hair and makeup.

I’ve been thinking about how I want it to look, thinking how I will feel about doing it myself on the big day. I keep realizing that I really don’t like how anyone else does my makeup, I am the best at doing it, and I know what looks best for my face. So I have decide that I am going to do my own makeup and will also probably end up doing my hair myself as well.

Because I am a model & a makeup artist, I know what it is like to be sitting in the makeup chair. I know what it’s like to be trusting someone with your appearance, and there is nothing worse that feeling like you don’t look like yourself or that you don’t look your best. That feeling is not only frustrating, but stressful and can cause anxiety, and sadness. And you don’t want those kinds of tears on your wedding day!

If you aren’t able to do your makeup on your wedding day, like me, and you want to hire someone, here are my tips for a more successful experience:

#1 Trial Run before the Wedding

Although I feel like I do my makeup the best, I will still do a few trial runs on the “look” that I want for my wedding day. I recommend that you do the same. Avoid wedding day tears by having a “dress rehearsal” for your hair and makeup at least 2 weeks before your wedding. Don’t forget to bring your headpiece and any pictures or inspiration images to show the makeup artist what look that you want.

#2 Take many photos!

Take some digital photos with your camera to see how you really look & how you will photograph with that hair and makeup on your wedding day. Take photos from different angeles and difference.  If your wedding is a daytime wedding, take some in the natural light, as well as in the evening. It’s a great idea to even have the makeup artist take some photos of you. This not only enables them to reference it on your wedding day, but you can make changes while the makeup artist is still there with you until they get it right. You may be surprised how different your hair and makeup can look in a photograph, so it’s always a good idea to check

#3 Speak up

Don’t be afraid to speak up about what you want or don’t want, how you like something to look, etc. Share will the artist your feelings and suggestions. They are there to make you feel like your very best, so they should listen and act accordingly.

#3 Be yourself, and you will be beautiful on your wedding day.

Don’t forget that it is you he asked to marry him, and it is you that he wants to see at the altar.

“A smart solution to a silly problem”

3 Jun

High heel lovers & Bride-to-be’s:

Check this out! My girl friend Nicole gave me the best little invention! Nicole and her mom created this “smart solution to a silly problem.” And they are smart! I really love this product and they have come in handy, because I’m a HUGE HEEL LOVER!

They are called HEELS ABOVE.

What are they? They are a little invention that allows you to walk on grass without your heels sinking into the soft dirt and ruining them or breaking an ankle.

How great is this, a way to walk on grass in heels?! It’s like walking on water, or just feels that great! The perfect item to use for outdoor weddings and wedding showers! And, not only do they help you walk on grass in heels, they are also useful on other surfaces, like gravel or uneven surfaces.

It comes in 2 different colors, white (clear) and black, and are made of recyclable plastic.

A nice item to offer your wedding guests, or bridal party walking down the isle in the beautiful garden that you are getting married in! I’m definitely going to be using these for me and my guests next year at my summer wedding in Norway!

Here is the info quoted from the Heelsabove.com website about these heel helpers:

“Heels Above stylishly protect and stabilize your high heeled shoes, keeping you above surfaces like grass, grates and cracks that can damage your shoes and slow you down. Ideal for outdoor weddings, special events and everyday life, Heels Above is a small flexible piece of recyclable plastic that attaches easily to your high heel shoes, and are simple to slip on and off. Available in two different sizes that fit most heels, the grip fits snugly around each heel without damaging the shoe or detracting from the style of the stiletto. Heels Above keep you from sinking into grass and from getting stuck in sidewalk cracks by increasing the bottom surface of the heel. Each individual package of Heels Above comes with two different sizes of the product and a fashionable pouch to carry them around in your purse. There’s no reason why every woman shouldn’t have a pair of Heels Above on them at all times!”

Good brushes are really important for getting a natural look and proper application.  Brushes are essential tools for achieving better blending, smoother application, and building color. Just like an artist uses paint brushes, you need the right brushes for a flawless makeup application.

These brushes are what you need for my Signature Eyes Look
Soft Blender Brush
Long and fluffy, this tool is perfect for shading your creases, emphasizing the outer corners of your eyes, and blending shadows together. This is my favorite brush, and is essential to this soft shadow look.
Deluxe Crease Shadow Brush
This brush is ideal for applying your base color, and color to the crease. Use to apply eyeshadow in the shape that you desire around the crease.
Baby Bullet Brush
I love this brush for extra shading, darker underneath the bottom lashes, outer corners and in the crease.

INDIVIDUAL BRUSHES

The Fancy Face Brush is Sunset Blonde’s MUST HAVE makeup tool.

FANCY FACE BRUSH

REGULAR PRICE: $52.00

SALE PRICE: $39.99

And I bet, most of you have never even owned one, and if you do, you don’t know what it is for!?

If so, you are missing out on this amazing beauty tool!

Luckily for you, I make really incredible, high quality fan bush for you to purchase for your collection from SUNSET BLONDE BEAUTY! This is the FANCY FACE Brush, a luxurious and soft blend of bristles, which is a very unique brush for applying powder. It is thicker, fuller, and a larger fan than any brush you have used before.

Whether you’re using a powdered mineral foundation, a baked foundation, bronzer or translucent powder, applying it has never been easier than with Sunset Blonde’s FANCY FACE Brush. The fan brush gives you far more control over how much you use and where you use it than the large ROUND types. You can layer for more coverage, or apply one or two coats for an even and natural look.

Powder to set your make-up is the last step in make-up application for many women, and the FANCY FACE Brush is ideal for this. Brushing a fine layer of powder over your face with FANCY FACE Brush will set your make-up, and you won’t have that “powdered” overdone look.

#2.)

The Fancy Cheeky Brush is another MUST HAVE makeup tool, with so many uses, you will need more than just 1!

CHEEKY FAN BRUSH

REGULAR PRICE: $32.00

SALE PRICE $24.99

The FANCY CHEEKY Brush is THE perfect tool for applying blush, bronzer, highlighter and shading. I recommend getting one for each type of makeup application that you will do.

As a blush brush, the brush picks up less color than an angled or blush brush, and makes it easy to apply it where you want to. A few light sweeps give you a natural look for day, or layer on more for a glam evening look. It allows you to apply it gently and softly, without ever making a mistake or looking like a clown.

Bronzer can also be applied easily with the FANCY CHEEKY Brush. The best use of bronzers is to sweep them lightly across those parts of the face that the sun would hit the most: the cheekbones; the nose; the chin; and above the brows and along the hairline. Again, the fan brush lets you pick up a smaller amount of product so that you can keep the application light. If you want it darker, LAYER on more color.

As a brush for highlighting, use the FANCY CHEEKY Brush to sparsely dust a light, shimmery powder over the apple of your cheeks and the middle of your forehead to bring out these areas through highlighting.

For shading your face with the FANCY CHEEKY Brush you can use your bronzer or a darker shade of powder to shade under your cheekbones and under your jawline to define your face subtly enough for even daytime wear.

#4.)

Deluxe Crease Shadow Brush

DELUXE CREASE SHADOW BRUSH

REGULAR PRICE: $25.00

SALE PRICE: $21.99

It’s ideal for applying your base color, or shaping the shadow color in your crease. This one has super soft natural hairs, which work great with powdered shadow.

BABY BULLET

Best Liquid Eyeliner

28 May

Liquid eyeliner seems to be a mystery and one of the most difficult techniques for most women to apply. For those of you with a steady hand, that have mastered liquid eyeliner, good job! For the rest of you, this eyeliner might make attempting the sultry cat-eye look a little easier.

It is by Prestige, and can be found in many drugstores such as Rite Aid, Walgreens, CVS, Target & Walmart.

image

In my last blog post, the “Copper Cat-Eye” I used this liquid eyeliner.

image

It is cheap, easy to find at the drugstore, and lasts a really long time. It comes in a variety of colors, but the best ones to buy are black and brown.
image
image

The shape of the brush tip is stiff, and comes to the perfect point enabling you to make a thin or thick line. Shake the bottle with the cap screwed closed before opening to get the liquid eyeliner on the brush tip.
image

As an everyday look, so that the liquid eyeliner isn’t so intense and fake looking, I only apply it to the top lash line on the outer corners only, tapering off towards the middle of my eyelid.
image

I always start on the eyelid, and do the extended “cat wing” last. Starting at the outer point, making it very thin, and connecting it to the liner that is already on my eyelid. In the photos below I’m using the Brown eyeliner, but you can also use the black one for a more dramatic look, or if your hair is dark brown or black.
image
image
image

image

image
image

This eyeliner is not waterproof, so no crying, tearing up, or swimming when wearing this one! But what is great about this eyeliner is that it is the easiest one I have found to apply, is affordable so you could buy more than one color, and it will last you a very long time, even if used everyday.

Copper Cat Eye How-To

28 May

New Sunset Blonde Beauty How-to:

Shimmery Copper CAT Eyes

I love wearing copper colors that make my blue eyes pop, but this color tends to look great with many skintones and eyecolors! If you liked my previous eyeshadow how-to you can use that technique, or you can try doing it this way. Again, I always like to make my eyes more catlike and almond shaped by bringing the eyeshadow up and out on the outter corners, as you will see below, but you can modify this depending on your eyeshape and preference.

Here is what you need to get this look:
Brown or Black liquid eyeliner
Black mascara
Copper eyeshadow: I used Gold Touch by Dior (avail at Sephora)
Sunset Blonde Beauty Blending Brush

image

Start by applying the copper eyeshadow with your index finger onto only your eyelid. I use my finger for applying it directly to the eyelid, because it allows more pigmentation to stick to my eyelid, and really makes the color pop.

image

As you can see when I open my eye, I only applied it to my eyelid:

image

image

Next, using the Sunset Blonde Blending brush, dip the brush gently into the eyeshadow:

image

image

Apply the eyeshadow using the Sunset Blonde Blending Brush into the crease concentrating on the outer corners of the eye and BLEND.

image

image

image

Apply liquid eyeliner: I use Prestige Liquid Eyeliner in Brown for a more natural look and start by lining my eyelid only half way, tapering it into my lashline in the middle of my eyelid so that it disappears, and stopping at the outter corner of my top eyelid. You can also use black liquid eyeliner for a more dramatic look.

image

image

image

I then want to make it more Cat like, so I add a wing on the outer corners:

image

image

image

Add mascara to top lashes concentrating more applications on the outer corners.

image

image

image

image

image

This is a super easy yet beautiful way to enhance your eyes. Since there is no eye makeup on the bottom of your eye, and the “half cat-eye” eyeliner, it can be worn as a daytime look or a night look.

Sexiest Bikinis HAVE FAITH SWIMGERIE

26 May

BEST BIKINI’S EVER!

HaveFaith.com

Have you been looking for that perfect sexy bikini? I’ve found it for you! No, Seriously, I have!

As a bikini model for many years, you can only imagine how many different types and brands of bikinis that I have tried on!

Several years ago, I worked a modeling job with another model named Jennifer Stano. (model pictured above). She was the sweetest and cutest girl ever, we kept in touch over the years. I remember her saying that she wanted to design bikinis, and now….Viola! Her dream has come true, she designs bikinis!

Her bikini line is called HAVE FAITH SWIMGERIE. Every single design of her’s is a perfect fit. The owner and founder of this company is a model herself, and started designing her own bikinis because she could never find one that was good enough. These bikini designs are the perfect amount of sexy, without ever looking trashy.

The owner is girlie, beautiful and in great shape herself. She really knows and understands what the customers needs are because she is her own customer.

If I could give you any advice, seriously, FORGET ABOUT overpriced Beach Bunny Bikinis that fit EVERYONE, and EVERYONE has…Boring!!! There is no other bikini company like this one. They don’t just make regular bikinis. All of their suits feature the PERFECT heart shaped scrunch butt design. What I’m saying is, that if you love the scrunch butt design for your behind, you haven’t tried wearing a scrunch-butt bikini until you have worn a Have Faith design. It flatters your booty in a way that no other bikini company has ever done before!

For the record, they also designed the very first (in the whole world) a Scrunch Butt thong Truth or Dare Coral Thong. Which I got to rock strutting my stuff down the catwalk during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Fashion Show last year as well as their SAILOR BARBIE style suit. OMG, ahhhh-mazing! IF you are daring enough to rock a thong, you have to try this one! Just Lovely!

In addition, they also designed a retro style denim bottom bikini that is a high-waisted scrunch-butt. This is a photo of my booty wearing this adorable and unique style. Sailor Barbie

As you can tell, I think Have Faith Swimgerie bikinis are amazing! They were even published in this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition in only their second year of business. And for good reason, they are really incredible bikini designs!

They have something for everyone, from girlie girl style bikinis with bows, retro chic, or sexy vixen styles. I want the whole collection!!

Here are a few that I just got from them last week:

I just love the colors on this one, the gold and turquoise!? HOW FANCY!

The underwire strapless tops are my favorite since I have real boobs. They offer support and good shape, and Have Faith one’s fit really well. How lovely is the sexy subtle leopard print and solid black bottoms. This one is SO me!

They also carry perfect cover ups, which come in different styles and designs. I love wearing these coverups to pool parties, the beach, and it is even possible to transition from day to night. Wear over your bikini for a classy yet sexy chic look, or add shorts, jeans or leggings and a pair of heels for night. I love wearing this tunic with jeans or shorts as a top because it is so cute! I have the Black Silk tunic with Silver Metal detailing all along the neckline and a draw string waist. This tunic is 100% silk.

Recently, she partnered up with Lily Galichi, designer of Swimgerie. This duo makes some amazing bikinis, and I can’t wait to see their upcoming lines!

Visit the website & take a look around. These bikinis are worth every penny. Get yourself one for this summer!!! Havefaith.com

Where to Online Shop

23 May

Calling all Online Shopaholics!

I have my favorite online stores that I like to check in with often, since some of them update with new products daily. Some of these websites are only good for certain things like shoes or a certain type of item.  Some expensive, some cheap, you just have to know your sizes and be willing to risk having to return something once in a while. Don’t worry, most of these sites are super user friendly for returns. It sure beats heading to the mall by yourself. So here I will list what I usually buy at these online stores, I’m sure they have other great things too.

Fashionphile.com for pre-loved designer items. I love searching this site for jewelery or scarves.

Yoogi’s Closet for pre-loved designer

GoJane.com for cheap shoes, I’ve bought many heels and boots from here. Just really look at the quality and now they have comments on some items that people have bought, which helps a little.

Makemechic.com for cheap shoes. This is similar to gojane, I’ve bought a bunch of shoes from here too. Just love cute cheap shoes!

Forever21.com instead of rummaging through the store, everything is easy to view online, and I really like that!

ae.com for the perfect Jean Shirts light & dark &  the perfect jean jackets. Just bought the 2 denim shirts and jacket from here.

Hautelook.com deals on all kinds of stuff. Easy to sign up for the membership. This is where I ordered my jewelery organizer from.

Shopdivine.com An online boutique that I shoot for, but also shop while I’m shooting. They have some of the best fashion! Especially for really nice dresses!

Havefaith.com where to buy the sexiest bikinis.

dianesbeachwear.com for cute bikinis from B Swim.

Bluefly.com good for designer discounts, purses, shoes, accessories & clothes. I’ve purchased a few dressy tops from here, and a jacket.

If you girls have some other places that you love to shop online at, let me know! Tell me the link, what you buy there, and your experiences with the site!? I will add them to this list and give you credit!

Thanks for reading!

Love,
