How are Cashmere Hair Extensions different?

Hair extensions are not just for adding length. You can achieve volume, texture, chemical free color, highlights and color accents all without the use of harsh chemicals. No longer do you have to wait months or even years to have the look and lifestyle you desire.  Cashmere Hair Extensions will give you instant gratification!

webFINAL diagram hair SUPERIOR

Owning a set of Cashmere Hair Extensions, not only saves you THOUSANDS of dollars, but is the easiest and most convenient hair extension system.  Salon applied hair extensions are extremely damaging and over priced. Cashmere Hair Extensions are a one time payment, with the convenience of at home custom application. Cashmere Hair provides the perfect alternative to permanent hair extensions and look even better! This is the ultimate DIY system for even the most inexperienced user, that only takes minutes to put in and seconds to remove. With Cashmere Hair you can have salon quality hair with out spending the time or money.

What is the quality of the hair?

Cashmere Hair is 100% High Quality Cuticle Human Hair. The hair cuticle is facing in the same direction which prevents tangling and matting. This High Quality Hair allows for better blending with your own hair and gives the appearance of natural, healthy looking hair.

What really makes our hair extensions the BEST is our gentle dying process, which takes up to 9 – 12 days.  Other 2 day processes, which rapidly dye hair using heavy acid and chemicals, cause damage to the hair. This heavy chemical processing causes hair to loose vital moisture and nutrition. Instead, our process of dying is a very slow process which is the least damaging to hair and gives you the healthiest quality hair, allowing your hair extension to look their best longest. We take the quality of our product very seriously, which is why we set ourselves apart from other companies on a completely different level of quality & authenticity. We have our strands laboratory tested and certified to be 100% Cuticle human hair, the highest quality available.

Other companies mask the harsh chemical process by using silicone to disguise the bad quality of the hair to make it feel silky when you first purchase it. After a few shampoos you might notice that the coating come off, and true nature of the quality is revealed.

Will Cashmere Hair Extensions damage my hair and how long my extensions last?

No damage will occur, and unlike traditional salon extensions. Cashmere Hair Extensions should last you anywhere between 6 to 12 months, with proper care and maintenance. Clip-in Hair Extensions can be reapplied and styled daily. If using a curling iron or flat iron, we recommend first styling your own hair, and then styling the clip-ins similarly before clipping in. Although, we always recommend using the least possible heat styling while getting the most uses out of the hair before rewashing. It is not necessary to wash your extensions after every use. Keep in mind, just like our own hair, any type of heat wears on the hair in time. These tips will save your own hair & extensions from extra unnecessary heat styling damage. Tip: Always try and treat your hair extensions with lots of love!

Can I dye Cashmere Hair Extensions?

Cashmere Hair Extensions are made of real hair just like your natural hair. It is always recommended to see one of our trained professional hair stylist or a professional you trust to assist you with any changes that you would like made to your hair extensions.  Please choose the hair extension color that is closest to your natural hair color, we do not recommend dying the hair extensions, since many of them have already been specially dyed. Our goal is to supply you with the best quality hair extensions possible, and we have a very special dying process that keeps the hair in the healthiest condition. Further dying could damage the hair if not done by our professionals.

Will Cashmere Hair Extensions be visible, will people be able to tell I’m wearing them?

No, Cashmere Clip-in Hair Extensions should not be visible. The beauty of Cashmere Hair Clip-extensions is that they make achieving the look of gorgeous hair naturally. Once fitted they are a perfect blend with your own hair. They provide unlimited versatility with a natural look and feel. Our clip-in system is suggested to be worn low on your head making it easy to disguise and blend with your own hair. Part of the secret of wearing hair extensions is blending your hair extensions into your natural hair for the most discrete & natural look.

Will Cashmere Hair Extensions stay in my hair, without slipping out?

These hair extensions make having the look of gorgeous hair easy, fast and comfortable. With in minutes you will have the gorgeous hair you’ve always wanted. Specially designed small silicone pressure clips allow these hair extensions to be put in and taken off in just minutes and without the worry of sliding or snapping open. Our hair extensions are undetectable and natural looking when inserted properly. No teasing is necessary prior to clipping into hair for most hair types.

Will Cashmere Hair Extensions work with very thin hair?

If you have very thin hair, Cashmere Hair will definitely be the perfect match for your desirable look. Depending on the severity of the thinning of your hair, you will need enough hair to lie over the top weft to cover it. Backcombing the hair above the top weft can help disguise easier. Ideally you would want your hair to be at least 6 inches long for best results.

What is the length of Cashmere Hair Extensions?

Cashmere Hair Extensions are 18″-20″ long (47cm-49cm). When worn in the recommended application they automatically layer themselves giving you a more natural look.

What color do I choose?

When choosing a color to match your own hair, choose a color that matches your hair from the middle to the ends. Never choose the hair color of your “roots” as that is always darker. The color match blend for your hair will be from your middle length to ends. So choosing a color closest this area of your hair will give you the best results. If your unique hair color is not available in our color chart, the best options is to place a custom order with Cashmere.

Obsessed! My New Monda Studio LED Makeup Case

Obsessed! My New Monda Studio LED Makeup Case

I attended this year’s The Makeup Show LA, and fell in LoVe! This year was my second year attending, so I knew what to expect and came prepared. What I wasn’t prepared for, was my newest obsession, the Monda Studio LED Makeup Case that I bought for a STEAL at the show!! The glistening bright lights that rim the mirror in the top of the case called to me as I walked by them in the Nigel’s booth, and I couldn’t help but stare in awe of this beautiful invention. I had seen lighted makeup cased before, but they were huge, had actual lightbulbs and were over $1000. The price tag was so reasonable on these cases, and the size was absolutely perfect. I first decided that I would get the smallest size, but at the last minute changed my mind to get the medium sized one.

The MSC-810 LED Lighted Mirror Make Up Station is the one I purchased. I comes on wheels, and has a handle to pull like a suitcase when it is closed and upright. It’s a little on the heavy side, but because it’s on wheels it’s manageable.

The best part, for me, are the lights! They work really well and are LED lights, which last a really long time 30-50,000 hours, you don’t need to replace them, and you can even brighten or dim them for the proper lighting effect! These lights also emit a minimal amount of heat and save 80% of the energy that incandescent lights use  It plugs into an outlet, and just press the button to turn them on, and you are ready to go!

For professional makeup artists, this is a great way to get better lighting on the go, and for personal use, the smaller sized ones are perfect for your own personal vanity!

It comes in 3 Sizes! (mine is the medium size.)

Less Is More & Buy It Once, Buy It Right

7 Feb

Sometimes good things happen on Instagram

I just wanted to share this recent Instagram post that I did. I got a few great comments and what I think is some great information & answers to questions that girls asked me. I wanted to share it with you all in case you missed it on my Instagram. (Thanks to all the girls for their input and comments!)

Screen shot 2013-02-06 at 11.37.26 PM

Follow me on instagram at @sunsetblonde

So I will start by letting you guys know why I did this post, 2 days ago reorganized my clothing closet and got rid of a bunch of clothes I haven’t worn in the last month. I try to go through my closet often and simplify it, getting rid of the items that I haven’t worn recently, or just realize that I don’t really like anymore. I tend to give things away to friends, neighbors, the cleaning lady, or sometimes goodwill, really anyone that wants it. . .I like knowing that my old things get a new life with someone else. I also go through my shoe closet and I used to have a ton of shoes, the whole thing was filled from ceiling to floor with shoes. A few months ago, I decided that when I comes to my complete wardrobe, Less is More! So, now I really only have about half of the shoes that I used to have, and I really love and wear all of the shoes that are in my closet. I took a photo today of some of my favorite pairs, lined up all pretty on the shelves and wrote a simple caption below it briefly stating some of my favorite wardrobe advice that has helped me a lot.

HERE IS THE POST:

PHOTO:

Screen shot 2013-02-06 at 11.39.10 PM

PHOTO CAPTION:

“My best fashion advice, and what I have learned over the last year…. Less is more & buy it once, buy it right. Of course trends are always changing, and nothing lasts forever, but when it comes to your wardrobe, it’s better to have less clothes that you will wear more. And if you are going to buy something, don’t buy 10 of the same thing. Its better to spend a little more and get a good quality one, one that you LOVE, one that fits, & looks amazing on you. Also, alterations are super important, find a good tailor that can make that dress fit you perfectly, so that you will actually wear it. If you have nothing to wear & lots of clothes, get rid of all the ones you don’t like, are outdated, don’t fit, etc. What u have left are the items that you actually wear. It is easier to see what you have when it’s not cluttered by all the items that you don’t wear. Don’t hold on to clothes you don’t wear! Don’t forget to keep your closet organized & items in sight so that you know what you have. ***Girls, please feel free to add to this post with your fashion opinions and advice!”

COMMENTS & MY REPLYS:

  • northernvagirl: Love the advice! Best part is how you suggest getting things altered to fit perfectly !

  • sunsetblonde: @northernvagirl thanks! I get dresses altered all the time. Altering an item is usually the difference between whether you wear it or not. Clothes need to fit right and be flattering. Sometimes I may like a dress but it’s too big, or the hemline isn’t right. Also, buying something cheap, and getting it altered to fit you perfectly makes it look expensive! *** but can save you hundreds!!! Alterations are not very expensive, and are worth it if you will wear it.

  • lexus9090: @sunsetblonde I’ve been dying to splurge on a pair of loubs. What style do you recommended? All the ones I’ve worn are uncomfortable

  • sunsetblonde: @lexus9090 as pretty as they are, if the don’t fit right you will never wear them. Loubs run narrow and small. I can’t even fit my feet into most of them, so you won’t likely find me wearing them. Try for a more strappy pair, or a slingback style if you don’t find the pumps comfortable. But to be honest, just because they are expensive doesn’t make them comfortable. I love YSL pumps as an alternative to a louboutin pump if you want to splurge. You can also find a trusted shoe repair to alter or stretch them a little. . . Sometimes that helps, but not always.

  • alessiademaria: In looking to purchase a really good pair of basic black heels, I’ve looked at Louboutins and YSL what would you suggest? @sunsetblonde :)
  • lexus9090: @sunsetblonde thanks girl! I appreciate it! I will def be looking into the YSL pumps! xx3h
  • sunsetblonde: @alessiademaria both designers make some beautiful basic black pumps. If you can fit into and wear a louboutin, I would buy those, they are classic, and highly recognizable. They won’t go out of style anytime soon! (Like I mentioned above,) loubs are too narrow for my feet and I can’t wear them, so I chose YSLs over loub personally, plus I like the shape of the YSLs a little better. Hope this helps, just make sure you really try them on and they don’t kill your feet. Otherwise they will just be nice to look at. Lol. *** for the girls that can’t spend big $$ and want the same look as the YSLs, try Pour Le Victore pumps in styles “irina or Zimmer”. I also have a few of them and I love them, a beautiful pump, comfortable and way cheaper than the Tribtoo
  • ecuadoll: @sunsetblonde I was browsing your blog I love it! Love the beauty tips & loved the helicopter post! Xo
  • sunsetblonde: @ecuadoll thank you!
  • alessiademaria: Yeah I’ve heard they are narrow and I have a wide foot, so I think I need to try them on to see. Yeah I don’t want to buy them and then they hurt. Are the YSL’s comfortable because I really do like the shape of them. And plus they’re going to be for my 18th birthday :) so I’m just doing my research! The YSL’s would be so much easier to buy in America in Australia there’s not really anywhere so it’s a bit unfortunate.
  • shopwithjenna: I prefer to buy expensive accessories and shoes vs clothing. Clothes change every season! Great advice Rachel hope you are well! Xo
  • evelynkrupa: I love the look of louboutin, own 2 pairs, lady peep and highness, both equally uncomfortable but I don’t go to a marathons in them. I would not buy more, two classics in two basic colors is just enough, and they are good investment, after you get bored with them you can sell them on eBay for almost the same amount you bought them!
  • sunsetblonde: @shopwithjenna <<<<——–FOLLOW HER! She has amazing style and a beautiful closet. Thanks for the comment Jenna, I totally agree with you. You do it right!
  • sunsetblonde: @alessiademaria I wouldn’t say they are comfortable, but they fit my wider feet better than loubs. I can wear them for an evening out, but not all day. I also wear them in 1/2 a size up. Normally I’m a 7.5 but I buy them in an 8/38. ** always try things on, shoes & clothes always need to be tried on to make sure the flatter, fit, and are comfortable.
  • lisavizcarra: @Sunsetblonde Great advice! Thanks!
  • alessiademaria: Aw thank you @sunsetblonde for the great advice! I’m definitely going to have to try them on!!
  • shopwithjenna: Thanks for the shout out babe! Hope all is well with the wedding planning!
  • constanze_schmuckstueck: True!!

Wedding Day Makeup DIY

10 Dec

I’ve always preferred doing my own makeup over how anyone else does it. I have always felt like I do it best, even if it wasn’t always the best. Now that I’m a Makeup Artist, after getting professional training, experience, and learning industry secrets, I feel like I can do my makeup better than any one else can for my wedding day. And so can you!!

My wedding is taking place in Norway. A beautiful country that I have fallen in love with, but also a country that is still unfamiliar to me in so many ways. I know already, that I wont be able to find a local makeup artist that can do a better job than I can on my wedding day. So, I decided right away, that I would just do my own hair and makeup. I also recently gave some advice to a friend that was having a destination wedding, who asked me about doing her own makeup.

Here’s my advice for doing your own wedding day makeup:

Don’t stray too far from the makeup routine you usually do, just perfect it by having the right tools and products. You can even higher a professional makeup artist for a private lesson to help and give you pointers. The best wedding makeup, is still looking like yourself! Youtube also has many how-to makeup videos to help.

Do not wear SPF on your big day; it doesn’t photograph well. It tends to reflect the light, even when worn under makeup it can make you look pale or shiny in flash photographs.

Use blotting papers to soak up excess oil during your wedding to avoid caking on too much powder.

And, especially for this day, even though it’s a pain to remove at night, use waterproof mascara and eyeliner!

Find inspiration for your wedding day makeup look. Whether you are experienced with applying makeup or new to it, keep it simple, classic and as natural as possible.

Practice this look on yourself. Many times. I suggest beginning to practice the final makeup choice on yourself at least a month before the wedding.

Get the right products for the look. Long wearing formulas, waterproof, high quality formulas, and the right shades are essential for creating that perfect wedding day look. Buying the right products and shades will help you to look your best on the big day.

Have the right makeup brushes. A great way to not only ensure proper makeup application on your wedding day, but a great investment for your makeup collection everyday. High quality makeup brushes last longer than any makeup, they also ensure easier and more natural application. You can buy great ones I have designed at sunsetblonde.com.

If it’s an option, ask a friend to help you on the big day. Ask someone with a steady hand to help you apply that liquid liner, or apply the false lashes on your big day to relieve some stress and any mistakes. It’s a great idea to ask them before the big day, and do a trial run. I recommend waterproof mascara and individual false lashes, because they will look more natural and you wont run the risk of them coming unglued if you tear up.

Bring touch-up Makeup. Things happen during the wedding that can mess up even a professional makeup job. So expect to touch up your makeup every bathroom trip you make. At least try to look at it and make sure everything looks ok. Crying, hugging and kissing, dancing, and even eating can cause your makeup to disappear. Bring a compact with powder to cover shine, lipcolor, and Qtips as the bare minimum. You even ask a bridesmaid to hold it in her purse.

The most important part of your makeup for your big day is evening out your skintone for that flawless bride look, using foundation, concealer under eyes and on blemishes (apply over foundation), and a translucent setting powder.

Remember that a natural look is always best for your wedding day, so NO harsh/super bright colors or extreme sparkle.

Here are some inspirational makeup photos that I found for my wedding day makeup look, which might help you too:

VIVA GLAM MAGAZINE PARTY-Red Carpet Look

30 Jul

20120730-150556.jpg

Last night I went out to support VIVA GLAM MAGAZINE!

As one of the Beauty Editors of the Magazine, I walked the Red Carpet at the Event, which took place in the courtyard of the W Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard.

It was a great party with so many of my beautiful co-workers and friends. Katarina Van Derham- the Founder of Viva Glam Magazine, Jessica Hall, Jessie Golden, Angela Taylor, Irina Veronina, Marketa Janska, Leilani Dowding, and Joanna Krupa just to name a few!

Here are a few of my Red Carpet photos.

I wanted to keep my look glamorous, but still natural, so I did a slightly different version of my Signature Eye Makeup Technique, wearing only mascara on my bottom lashes, and blending a dark brown eyeshadow into the crease concentrating most of the shadow on the outer corners. I’m also wearing liquid eyeliner only in the outer corners of my upper lashes. I have on a 5 knot free Medium length individual flare lashes on each eyelid that I blended with mascara into my own lashes. I used Loreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black. I am wearing Makeup Forever HD Foundation in #123, with a light dusting of Bare Minerals Powder Foundation in Golden Medium over it. I used Hoola bronzer under my cheekbones for definition and blended upward, followed by Bobbie Brown Bronzer in Golden Light (which is sort of a reddish bronzer) on my cheeks as a blush for extra color without looking like I’m wearing blush. On my lips I have a light layer of lipgloss by Nars called Chelsea Girls.

I wanted a very soft “Farrah” style goddess like hair style, and it was oddly humid for LA that night, so I figured my hair would soften and curl anyway. I used a 1 inch curling iron by Hot Tools, and curled pieces away from my face. I just blow dryed my bangs forward with a large round brush and parted them down the middle. As you can see, I am growing out my natural hair color, which is the top portion of my hair (from my eyes up). It is blended into the lighter portion of my hair with subtle highlights.

I wore a blue sequin dress by WowCouture that I got from Flirtnation.com (one of my modeling jobs.)

Louis Vuitton Robertson Clutch

Shoes by Qupid. I love these shoes and have them in 6 colors! They are actually really comfortable, and excellent quality. Instead of buying the $650 Giuseppe’s, since I won’t wear these colored pumps very often, I opted to get a bunch of colors for a STEAL at the link below. I actually think these are a cuter shape than the actual Giuseppe pumps:

GoJane Suede Peep-toe Platform Pumpscj
($25.60, GoJane)

(they might not sell them anymore, I bought mine several months ago.)

($650, Saks)

The Most Natural Faux Lashes!

13 Jul

LASHES LASHES LASHES LASHES LASHES LASHES LASHES LASHES!!!!!!

Since big full luxuriously long lashes have been a big trend in beauty over the past few years, for many women in my industry faux lashes are a must. Most models that I know, including myself, expect faux lashes to be applied by the makeup artist for the photo shoot. Even I love the look that the fuller faux lash gives my eye. I even know a lot of girls that use Latisse to grow their own lashes even longer, and they still wear false lashes in addition. Faux lashes have almost become the norm for special occasion, and even everyday wear.
Yes, I know that I live in LA LA Land, where a lot of women are “fake” and overdone. But being a model and a makeup artist, I know how a little lash can change your whole face.

So many women that I talk to have trouble applying lashes, and when they do wear them, you can always tell they are wearing them. Strip lashes are the most widely available lashes, and are usually the go-to lash. But I think we are all over looking one tiny detail. . .They look so fake. Not only do the crazy lash styles look incredible fake, but the lash line looks fake. There are a few that have invisible bands, what tend to be a little better, but once you put eyeliner or mascara over it, you are making it more visible.

These look like the normal FLARE Lashes at first, but they are a little different. It’s subtle, but at the base, where the lashes meet, there is NO round “knot.” I’m sure a lot of you have never even heard of “knot free lashes” but let me tell you girl, if you like to wear faux lashes to give your already gorgeous peepers a voluminous boost, these are something new to consider! At first they can be very intimidating and a little difficult to figure out how to apply if you have never applied individual lashes before. But with a little practice and the right technique, it’s totally doable. And, if anything, just for those special occasions, have a friend apply them for you, if you truly struggle with it.

WITHOUT KNOTS

WITH KNOTS:

What are knot free lashes and how are they different from regular flare lashes?

Knot free lashes are a lash flare with no “knot” at the very tip where the individual lashes connect at the base. Because there is no knot, it looks more natural at the base of your lash line when you are wearing this type of lash flare. Knot free lashes are more delicate.  Be very gentle when removing them from their packaging on their original tray because there is only a little bit of glue that holds the flares together. They are easily to accidentally pull apart, and it might take a little practice just removing them from the tray. (Always remove them with tweezers. I suggest to flip up the end of the flare with the tweezer and try to grab closer to the base, and delicately pull on all of the lashes to remove. You will need to reposition your grip on the flare in order to dip it in the glue and apply it.)  You need to have wide enough tweezers to gentle grab the whole lash at the base so that you don’t mess up the flare.

Why do I like them over strip lashes?

I prefer them to strip lashes because they look more natural, I can also customize them in any way that I want, full, natural, longer, fuller outer corners for a cat-eye effect, etc.

Why do I like them better than the regular flares?

The same reason why I prefer them over strip lashes, they look more natural. It’s harder to tell that you are wearing them since there is no knot, and because they blend better with your natural lashes.

Are they hard to apply?

It’s not that they are harder to apply than any other lash, but you need the right tools, a good pair of tweezers, a mirror you can get really close to, lash glue, and the right technique! With everything in makeup, since I consider it an art form, it takes a steady hand and some practice, but most importantly the right tools!

What kinds are available?

There are many different types of “knot free” lashes. Ardell makes the best ones (Naturals), Revlon also makes some. They come in black and in brown. They also come in different lengths so that you can customize them in many diffferent ways. Short, medium and long, they even make an “under” lash to go on your bottom lash line. The “under” ones are x-small and can also be used on the top lashes. They even make a multi-pack with 3 different lengths.

Where can I buy them?

That’s sort of the hard part. I know they are not easily available everywhere, and so not many women know about them. If you are shopping online for them, make sure to buy the Ardell brand “Naturals” knot-free lashes. Those are the best ones. I buy mine at Naimies. I just looked for you and they sell them on their website under MAKEUP>EYES>LASHES>ARDELL-DURALASH-NATURALS-FLARE….

They are called “Naturals” by the ARDELL instead of Knot Free.

You can order them here, they sell all 3 lengths as well as a combo pack:

http://www.naimies.com/make-up/eyes/lashes.html?p=2

My favorites are the “short” length because they add fullness to my lashes without looking extremely longer than my real lashes. They blend the best, and don’t need to be cut. I can also apply 1 or many without it looking fake.

What kind of glue should I use?

There are 3 basic types of glue from Duo White which dried clear, Black, and a semi-permanent glue for individual lashes.

For these lashes I prefer the clear glue because it looks the most natural, and is easily removed with just water. If you use the semi-permanent glue it tends to pull out your own lashes and you need a special remover to get them off. I would only recommend that one if you want to go swimming with them on, and if you wont be tempted to try and pull them off.

How do I remove them?

With the regular lash glues, just a bit of water will allow you to pull them or gently rub them off. I also recommend using baby shampoo. With the Individual lash glue you will need the special remover.

Can I wear them with no mascara?

Yes, just make sure you buy the right color that is closest to your natural lash color. You can even curl them along with your natural lashes with a lash curler. Just be gentle not to pull them off.
These are the ONLY lashes that I like wearing these days. They are by far the the most natural lashes that you can wear. They are also less likely to come off half way through the night like strip lashes can. Because they blend in so well with your natural lashes, they won’t irritate your eyes like strip lashes can. If your eyes water easily, I also recommend these lashes for you.

Are there any tricks for applying these lashes?

1. You can apply clusters BEFORE or AFTER makeup, unlike strip lashes. Applying them after makeup will allow you to reuse them more often, but the lash clusters will usually not look as natural if applied after eye makeup.

2. With a pair of tweezers, pick up the lash clusters by the tips and then apply them one by one from the center of your eye outwards.

3. Here’s another cool tip: Dot glue onto the TOPS of the base, where the hairs are connected together. GO UNDER YOUR LASHES, AND APPLY THEM ON THE TIDE-LINE, right where your lash roots meet your skin. Then use your tweezers to push them firmly upwards so they curve and meld into your natural lashes. Letting the glue dry for a minute will allow them to stick right away, and not fall off.

(Most people apply them from the top down, but your own lashes will tend to get in the way and that is what makes it so hard. Plus, applying  them to the tide line makes them more invisible. When you close your eyes, nobody will see any clumps of glue because the clusters are hidden below your natural lash line.)

Mixed Metal Eyeshadow

25 Jun

Rose Gold and Gold.

Mixing metals can be fun with jewelry, so why not with makeup? I got creative with my eyeshadow this morning and decided to apply 2 different metallic shades to my eyelid.

I used a highly pigmented, very yellow gold shade from urban decay called Honey, and a new Kevyn Aucoin eyeshadow shade that I got in Copper. The name of it is copper, but I think it looks more like a rose gold color, because of it’s soft shimmery pinkish shade. I started with the rose gold shade and applied it all over my eyelid and blended it up into the crease, concentrating more color on the outer corners. I then applied it underneath my lower lash line. Then with the Honey (gold) color I applied it right over the rose gold on the inner corners of my upper eyelid, and gentle blended the edge with the rose gold.

I finished the look by lining the outer corners of my inner rims with black gel eyeliner from Trish McEvoy, and applying Loreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black. I also used Bobbi Brown Metallic Lip Color in Gilded Pink. I don’t find it to be metallic though, it’s more like a brownish pink. A nice compliment to the rose gold on my eyes.

Whisper Goddess

25 Jun

I really love how my eyes look when I do my eye makeup this way. Similar to my Signature Eyes Look. I usually choose 2 shades, a light one, and a dark one. I always apply the light shade to the inner corners of my eye and sweep it across my eyelids, and under the brow bone. Then with the Deluxe crease brush from Sunset Blonde I lightly coat the bristles in the darker shadow, and work it into the outer corners and crease of my upper eyelid. I then blended the darker color into my eyelid with a clean Sunset Blonde Soft Blender Brush. I also smudged a light layer of the darker shade along my bottom lash line under my eye with the baby bullet brush.

I used 2 eyeshadow colors from Kevyn Aucoin, the lighter one is a shimmery pink shade called Whisper, and the darker is a shimmery wine color called Goddess.

Using a black eyeliner pencil by Stila in Stingray, I lined the inner rims of my eyes only on the outer corners, and finished the look with Loreal Voluminous Mascara!

A few months ago I did an Ad Campaign for Vanna K Jewelry. Here are a few on the images from the campaign. I did my own hair and makeup for this shoot, and kept it very natural and elegant. I loved trying on all the fabulous jewels and sparkly diamonds! OMG!

This is a Behind the Scenes shot from the photo shoot at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles.

Coconut Oil: NEW FAVORITE BEAUTY SECRET

20 Jun

My NEW FAVORITE Beauty Secret!

COCONUT OIL!!!

Pressed from the fruit of the coconut palm tree, not only is this oil super healthy to eat, but it has amazing uses for the outside of your body as well.

Coconut oil can be used as a skin moisturizer, helping with dry skin and reduces protein loss when used in hair. The best part is that it is natural and without a bunch of chemicals in it. I am loving it right now because my hair and skin are always so dry and I love that I can use just one natural product to moisturize both my skin and hair. I bought the Organic Virgin Coconut Oil that comes in a jar from Trader Joe’s. They sell it in the oil section.

This is what coconut oil looks like inside the jar, in a white solid form.

The interesting thing about coconut oil is that it is in a solid form at first. A white solid, and turns into a clear liquid when slightly warmed up. It’s really interesting that it melts into a liquid with the warmth from your hand and body. So you can scoop some into the palms of your hand and rub together and apply to your face, body, or hair.

I’ve been using it on my face in place of a moisturizer at night and before applying my makeup in the morning for a week now and it hasn’t made me break out, and doesn’t make me too oily. If you aren’t too sure about wearing it under your makeup then try just applying it as a night moisturizer. It is great to use just around your delicate eye area as a moisturizer if you are worried about putting an oil on your face, or if you already have oily skin.

I love using it as a body moisturizer, just warm it between your palms and apply it. It also is great after the shower, it soaks in nicely to damp skin.

For my hair I apply it to the ends before blow drying, and they apply more to the ends before using a curling iron or flat iron. It soaks in nicely to my hair and as long as you don’t apply too much, it looks natural and shiny on your ends without looking greasy. Once in a while at nighttime I will apply a good amount to the ends of my hair and put it in a bun to condition it while I sleep, then shampoo and condition in my morning shower as usual.

Other uses:

Use it as a lip balm, hand moisturizer, cuticle oil, shaving oil, add to your bath for moisturizing, as a foot moisturizer, post shower body moisturizer, deep conditioning for hair, as a hair serum, to remove water proof mascara and eye makeup. I’m sure there are a bunch of other creative ways to use it, but that’s just to name a few.

I wanted to have this new amazing love of mine in a smaller to-go size for travel and to easily take with me to photo shoots if I need it, so I got creative this morning. Here is what I did.

I used a mini shampoo bottle that I got from a hotel visit recently. I couldn’t find a small jar in my house, but that would work well too. I chose to use this bottle because the mouth of the bottle was large enough that I could stick my finger in and scoop out the coconut oil if in it’s solid form, and it was for shampoo as it’s prior contents, which I was pretty sure good enough to prevent leaks for when the oils was in the liquid form.

Great tip***  When visiting hotels, even if you don’t like the product inside the mini bottles, take the bottles with you anyways and use them to fill with your own favorite beauty products for travel. I do this all the time, and keep extra ones around for new products or for making my own. I relabel them with my own labels, and remove the original labels*** How to remove the labels? Keep reading….I answer this at the end of this post for you.***

This is the mini shampoo bottle that I decided I wanted to put a travel sized amount of coconut oil in. It has been rinsed, cleaned, and dried

This is the jar of coconut oil, with the oil in it’s solid white form.

Using a butter knife scoop out the coconut oil in small amounts and fill the to-go container.

This is me filling the smaller container.

This is the to-go container filled with the coconut oil in it’s solid white form

This is what the coconut oil looks like in it’s clear liquid form. I just put it up to the hair dryer on a low heat setting and shook it gently a few times until it was all melted.

Now I have a smaller travel- sized container of coconut oil. I can keep the larger one in the kitchen for cooking, so when transferring be careful not to contaminate it in any way. (Liquid form in the small container, solid in the larger container.)

The smaller to-go container from the top view.

To remove the shampoo labels from the bottle, Heat up the label with a hair dryer, and peel off while still warm.

By using the hair dryer to heat up the label, this should also remove the sticky part with the label as you peel. So if it isn’t coming off, blow more heat on it with the hair dryer.

Viola! Coconut Oil by Sunset Blonde!! Lol.

In this photo: I used it as a facial moisturizer and as a hair serum on the ends of my hair and to tame fly-aways for my photo shoot.

Please feel free to share your thoughts, uses, opinions and questions about coconut oil!

Day 2 On Location: Hawaiian Beach Bikini Photo Shoot

11 Jun

Day 2 On Location: Hawaiian Beach Bikini Photo Shoot

Below is a photo of all of the crew setting up the shot. You can see me with my set bag perfecting the model’s hair before she starts shooting.

The weather starting out this morning didn’t go as well as hoped on day 2. Up at 4am to start hair and makeup on the new model, only to get to our location at 6am, and wait around for an hour to see if the sky would clear up  to get some nice sunlight to shoot.

I took a photo of the sky around 6:30am, the sun is just barely visible through the oncoming clouds. The ground below is dark, and there isn’t enough natural light to properly shoot the model with.

Our model of the day was Julia Docherty. She was a great sport running back and forth in and out of the pop up changing tent to stay dry from the rain. Below in a photo of the pop up changing tent. It’s convenient but rare to have a tent like this on location. But it is great for model’s to change inside of when on a public beach for some privacy and rapid outfit changes. Just wanted to show you this because it’s kind of a neat invention that makes on location shoots more comfortable for a model.

Soon after we changed locations to shoot at the Aqua Nui House. This is the photographer’s house that we are staying at. This is a shot of the back of the house, the ocean & beach are the backyard, which makes it a perfect shoot location!

This is the gorgeous model for Day 2, Julia Docherty, a D cup swimsuit model that fills out the Sunsets Inc. swimsuits nicely. She was stunning, and had amazing eyes. In the photo below you can see how I styled her hair and did her makeup for the shoot. I played up her eyes, contoured her cheeks and gave her a nude/natural lip. Her hair was styled with soft beachy curls and sexy side swept bangs. This hairstyle was hard to keep looking fresh and perfect on her because of her fine hair type. 4 touch-ups where required to re-curl her hair throughout the day, and lots of hairspray was used!

Her eyeshadow was a Metallic Eye shadow in a green shade from Bobbie Brown called Sage which I blended into her creases and under the outer corners of her eyes. I used Bone also By Bobbie Brown and blended it onto her lids and brow bone.

In Julia’s hair I added some clip-in hair extensions to keep her hair looking fuller and curled, since hair extensions hold curl really well.

I used a combination of all 3 of these hairsprays throughout the day for controlling frizz and flyways, as well as for hold during re-curling.

Below is a photo of me touching up her hair in between shots, standing behind as shade panel that is known as a scrim. Photographers use a scrim to shade the model from direct sunlight, it’s basically a lighting tool.

She is wearing faux lashes, and Loreal Voluminous Mascara in carbon black, and Kevyn Aucoin The Eye Pencil Primatif in Black on top lashline only and blended.

I applied Makeup Forever HD Foundation in color #123, with a custom powder to set it that I made with yellow undertones to match her tan.

I used MAC Bronzer in GOLDEN under her cheekbones and jawline for contouring with the FANCY CHEEKY BRUSH from SUNSET BLONDE, and Kevyn Aucoin blush in Dolline on her upper cheeks.

Kevyn Aucoin The Pure Powder Glow – Dolline which I find to be the perfect matte apricot shade:

Julia needed a long lasting lip color for her lips so I made a custom color for her from Loreal Infallible Lipsticks in #812 Opulent Organza & #423 Perpetual Peach. These have nice staying power and go on creamy. Both of these colors are great to use by themselves and look great if you want a natural color for many skin tones. #812 is more of a matte berry color, and #423 is a shimmery peachy pink. I think that a combination of the 2 makes a perfect shade.

An on-set trick from Sunset Blonde:  It might look weird, but works great! I like to take a small amount of lipstick with me to go in a Disposable container when on location, instead taking the entire lipstick with me and risking a meltdown in my “on-set” bag in the blazing sun.  I’ve come up with a great idea for those plastic containers that false lashes come in, I smear a small amount of lipstick straight from the tube onto the plastic & Go! This not only keeps my lipsticks sanitary, and from melting, but it allows me to keep a separate tray of lipstick for each model that is portable. Great idea to reuse an item you might normally trash.

At photo shoots there are usually racks of bikinis, stacks of accessories and it can get pretty messy. This company is great in that they neatly hang up the bikinis with matching cover-ups, and attached to the hangers in plastic bags are the accessories nicely matched up for each outfit change that have been selected prior to the shoot day. This organization strategy speeds up the changing time in between shots, and makes it easy for the stylists and models to know what the complete next outfit is. I love it when designers are super organized and time efficient!

As I described in Day 1, I love my on-set bag, so I thought I would take some photos of my actual bag so that you can see me wearing it, and what I am able to fit in it! I like to wear it across my body so that I don’t have to worry about it falling off my shoulder. As you can see, I have a lot of useful items for touch ups, brushes, hairspray, compacts, bug spray, even a favorite of mine… coconut water for hydration.  This bag also makes a great travel toiletry bag for the travel lovers reading this!

By late morning the sun was shining high in the sky and we pushed through a lot of shooting. I had to blur out the model on the far left, so that you can’t see her bikini, because they will not be released until July, so I have to keep them a secret ;)

I will be modeling on day 3 & 4…so stay tuned for more photos and info!

Long Lash Problems: MASCARA MISTAKES!!

3 Jun

“I have long eye lashes and always tend to get mascara on my eyelid when applying mascara. I do this after my eyeshadow so it then ruins my eyeshadow when I try to get it off with a q-tip. Any tips on how to avoid this??

Thanks

-Jessica “

Jessica,

The best way is prevention! I never run into this problem personally, because my lashes are short, and there is a lot of space between my eyelids and my eyebrows. But my sister has this issue and so I interviewed her this morning on how she deals with this problem, and what she does to prevent a mascara mess. She has become good at it because she loves wearing eyeshadow and mascara.

This is also a great tip, not only for women with Long eyelashes, but also women that have a small eyelid, with not a lot of space between their lash line and their eyebrows.

Here is how to prevent getting mascara on your eyelids after you have already applied eyeshadow and eyeliner:

First of all, my sister said that a CURVED MASCARA WAND is a MUST to avoid mascara mistakes! You have to use a curved brush! Helps to be more precise and hugs your lashes, preventing mistakes. It also gives you a little lift and curl. You will have a lot more control with a curved brush.

Straight mascara wands tend to make a big mess when you have long lashes. Using a curved brush you have more control and also helps to curl and shape your lashes in the correct direction.

She recommends using:

Maybelline GREAT LASH Mascara, CURVED BRUSH.

She likes this mascara because it not only has a curved brush that helps her prevent mascara mistakes, but is lightweight and doesn’t clump. It gives her a natural look on her long lashes.

Here are steps to help you achieve applying mascara without mistakes:

1. Tilt head back, open mouth slightly as you look straight ahead into the mirror. Almost like you are looking down. This puts more space between your lashes and your eyelids.

2. While tilting your head really far back, begin applying mascara and try your best not to blink while applying your mascara. Immediately look down and relax while allowing your mascara to dry.

3. To speed up the drying process, use a blowdryer on a cool setting (always use a cool setting) to dry your mascara.

4. Another tip, if you want to curl your lashes is to curl your eyelashes gently AFTER applying mascara. Please don’t press the curler closed all the way, otherwise you will get a hard crease. Plus you run the risk of the mascara sticking to the lash curler and ripping out your lashes. So try to avoid pulling out your lashes. Curling your lashes after applying mascara prevents your lashes from hitting your lids even more.

5. Another option, if simply leaning your head back doesn’t work try this:  When you tilt your head back, use your index finger in a hook shape in front of your eyelid, resting your hand on your cheek to steady your hand.

Try to avoid pressing your finger against your eyelid so that you don’t mess up your eyeshadow. But use your finger to block the lashes from touching your eyelid. It is much easier to remove mascara from your finger, than using a q-tip after to fix mistakes and retouch eyeshadow on your lids.

Girls, try this and let me know if you have any other techniques or tips on how to solve this issue!

Special thanks to my beautiful sister Shaina (left) for your input and answers to this common LONG LASH PROBLEM!

Splurge on a Wedge

30 May

Jimmy Choo wedges

This is the perfect wedge for summer!

So I know these are a bit of a splurge for most of you lovely ladies, but I have to share my love for these Jimmy Choo wedges. I have the Black Snake print wedges from a few seasons ago, but they still make them in several different colors and materials. They even make styles with an ankle strap, a slingback, and with a few different heel heights, so there is something for everyone!

These are a great addition to your wardrobe if you want to purchase a classic wedge. A little pricey, but it’s nice to treat yourself to a sweet pair of heels once in a while?! I have gotten so much wear out of these wedges, and it has been worth every penny.

These are mine, a little broken in and loved! I love wearing them with a pair of jeans during the day,  with a summer dress, or with a bikini when I want an glammed up alternative to a flip flop. SO comfortable and easy to slip on.

Here are some other styles that they make, these ones are a little fancier with flowers, more straps, etc. I love the blush color and the nudes…

And these are for you ladies that don’t like a high heel…

I recommend going to the store and trying them on if they carry them in a store near you, so that you can find the perfect pair and perfect fit. The pair I tried on are true to size 7.5.

INDIVIDUAL BRUSHES

#1.)

The Fancy Face Brush is Sunset Blonde’s MUST HAVE makeup tool.

FANCY FACE BRUSH

REGULAR PRICE: $52.00

SALE PRICE: $39.99

And I bet, most of you have never even owned one, and if you do, you don’t know what it is for!?

If so, you are missing out on this amazing beauty tool!

Luckily for you, I make really incredible, high quality fan bush for you to purchase for your collection from SUNSET BLONDE BEAUTY! This is the FANCY FACE Brush, a luxurious and soft blend of bristles, which is a very unique brush for applying powder. It is thicker, fuller, and a larger fan than any brush you have used before.

Whether you’re using a powdered mineral foundation, a baked foundation, bronzer or translucent powder, applying it has never been easier than with Sunset Blonde’s FANCY FACE Brush. The fan brush gives you far more control over how much you use and where you use it than the large ROUND types. You can layer for more coverage, or apply one or two coats for an even and natural look.

Powder to set your make-up is the last step in make-up application for many women, and the FANCY FACE Brush is ideal for this. Brushing a fine layer of powder over your face with FANCY FACE Brush will set your make-up, and you won’t have that “powdered” overdone look.

_____________________________________________________________________

#2.)

The Fancy Cheeky Brush is another MUST HAVE makeup tool, with so many uses, you will need more than just 1!

CHEEKY FAN BRUSH

REGULAR PRICE: $32.00

SALE PRICE $24.99

The FANCY CHEEKY Brush is THE perfect tool for applying blush, bronzer, highlighter and shading. I recommend getting one for each type of makeup application that you will do.

As a blush brush, the brush picks up less color than an angled or blush brush, and makes it easy to apply it where you want to. A few light sweeps give you a natural look for day, or layer on more for a glam evening look. It allows you to apply it gently and softly, without ever making a mistake or looking like a clown.

Bronzer can also be applied easily with the FANCY CHEEKY Brush. The best use of bronzers is to sweep them lightly across those parts of the face that the sun would hit the most: the cheekbones; the nose; the chin; and above the brows and along the hairline. Again, the fan brush lets you pick up a smaller amount of product so that you can keep the application light. If you want it darker, LAYER on more color.

As a brush for highlighting, use the FANCY CHEEKY Brush to sparsely dust a light, shimmery powder over the apple of your cheeks and the middle of your forehead to bring out these areas through highlighting.

For shading your face with the FANCY CHEEKY Brush you can use your bronzer or a darker shade of powder to shade under your cheekbones and under your jawline to define your face subtly enough for even daytime wear.

DELUXE CREASE SHADOW BRUSH

REGULAR PRICE: $25.00

It’s ideal for applying your base color, or shaping the shadow color in your crease. This one has super soft natural hairs, which work great with powdered shadow.

Where to Online Shop

23 May

Calling all Online Shopaholics!

I have my favorite online stores that I like to check in with often, since some of them update with new products daily. Some of these websites are only good for certain things like shoes or a certain type of item.  Some expensive, some cheap, you just have to know your sizes and be willing to risk having to return something once in a while. Don’t worry, most of these sites are super user friendly for returns. It sure beats heading to the mall by yourself. So here I will list what I usually buy at these online stores, I’m sure they have other great things too.

Fashionphile.com for pre-loved designer items. I love searching this site for jewelery or scarves.

Yoogi’s Closet for pre-loved designer

GoJane.com for cheap shoes, I’ve bought many heels and boots from here. Just really look at the quality and now they have comments on some items that people have bought, which helps a little.

Makemechic.com for cheap shoes. This is similar to gojane, I’ve bought a bunch of shoes from here too. Just love cute cheap shoes!

Forever21.com instead of rummaging through the store, everything is easy to view online, and I really like that!

ae.com for the perfect Jean Shirts light & dark &  the perfect jean jackets. Just bought the 2 denim shirts and jacket from here.

Hautelook.com deals on all kinds of stuff. Easy to sign up for the membership. This is where I ordered my jewelery organizer from.

Shopdivine.com An online boutique that I shoot for, but also shop while I’m shooting. They have some of the best fashion! Especially for really nice dresses!

Havefaith.com where to buy the sexiest bikinis.

dianesbeachwear.com for cute bikinis from B Swim.

Bluefly.com good for designer discounts, purses, shoes, accessories & clothes. I’ve purchased a few dressy tops from here, and a jacket.

If you girls have some other places that you love to shop online at, let me know! Tell me the link, what you buy there, and your experiences with the site!? I will add them to this list and give you credit!

Thanks for reading!

Sunset Blonde’s Favorite Concealers

22 May

I love cream concealers. I really don’t ever use any other types of concealers. Cream Concealers are the best for coverage, blending, and staying power. They also are easy on your delicate skin. They seem to have to most natural results, with the most coverage, and the easiest blending capabilities.

As a professional makeup artist, I have tried MANY different types and brands of concealer, but I always go back to the same ones. Creams. And here are the best cream concealers. They are not the typical ones found where beauty products are sold, you will probably have to order them online or find a professional makeup store in your area that carries them. But it’s worth the trouble.

Best Concealer for many skintones, comes with different colors for different types of concealing:

CINEMA SECRETS CONCEALER PALETTE:

http://www.musebeauty.pro/cinemasecretsconcealer-palette1.aspx

This one will be easier for you to get, and is the most user friendly.

I use this professional palette in my makeup kit for clients, but I also have one that I just use for myself. The pigments in this palette are so ideal for covering dark circles under eyes, as well as camouflaging to perfect your complexion. You can use it to cover veins, blemishes, spots, etc. Each palette contains five shades in a waterproof cream formula that can be applied light & sheer or for full coverage with a thicker application. Each shade can be used for different things, but it works well with many skin tones. The creamy formula of this concealer is great for your skin, it’s non-drying, and blends easily. It is lightweight, yet provides great coverage. This concealer needs to be set with a translucent powder.

I think this palette is not only great for correcting small blemishes or dark under eyes. It can also be used to correct unwanted undertones, for highlighting, shading, & contouring. What is also great about the variety of shades in this palette is that you can use it to adjust foundation color, and create custom blends for hard-to-match skin tones. The plastic case is portable and compact, great for travel and everyday!

Contains highlighters and red/blue neutralizers for light to dark skin

From left to right

1. Highlighter or use on very fair skin tones

2. Covers red- can be blended with 1 or 3 for a custom redness cover color.

3. Covers red on olive skin tones

4. under eye concealer for fair skin, the pink tones counter the “blue” under your eyes

5. under eye concealer for dark skin also contains pink tones to counter the “blue” under your eyes.

All of these colors can be mixed for a custom color that matches your skin. And I understand that might be difficult for some of you, but I wanted to give you some professional, insider info ;)

Best Concealer with multiple uses, great for everyone:

KEVYN AUCOIN BEAUTY “THE SENSUAL SKIN ENHANCER” MAKEUP

I purchased this concealer product at the Los Angeles Makeup show a few months ago, and I love this concealer as well. A little bit goes a long way. It has a stickier & creamier consistancy than the Cinema Secrets Concealer I mentioned above.I have color SX07 which seems to work well with many tan skin tones. It is highly pigmented but blends very easily.  Start with a very small amount and add more if needed. You can also use this product as a foundation, or mix it with your moisturizer  for a “tinted moisturizer” or more sheer coverage.

You can buy it at nordstrom. It’s kind of expensive, but since a little bit goes a long way, it will last you a really long time!

Best Heavy concealer:

DERMA COLOR CAMOUFLAGE SYSTEM CREME 25ML

(I USE COLOR D4)

http://www.funhousetheatricalcostumes.com/kry-75000.html

I happen to use this concealer everyday. I like it because it is a really thick cream that covers any imperfections for a long time, and REALLY covers, even strong enough to cover tattoos.

The container of this concealer I have is huge, and lasts forever! I usually break it down into smaller to-go containers with a makeup spatula (you can use a plastic knife at home if you want a cheap alternative.) The far left is the original container, the one with the black lid I keep in my makeup bag, and the small plastic container I put some in to keep in my purse.

(The smallest container can be bought at a craft store, and is actually used for mixing your own paints. They come all attached to each other, so I cut them apart and use them for smaller to-go containers)

Now, I have to tell you, this is a product used by professionals, and is not something that you can just pick up anywhere. So that being said, if you really want this, you might need to find a local professional/costume makeup store to buy it, or find the correct color for you.

Or:

You can also purchase these concealers in Pro Palletes online with multiple colors so you can try out which color is best for you, custom blend, or use for different purposes like highlighting, shading, and different types of concealing:

I use this concealer under my eyes, but only on the inner corners, and I use a special Concealer Buffing Brush, that I just lOVe! (Which will soon be available from SUNSET BLONDE BEAUTY) It allows me to apply it lightly to my delicate eye area, with a more natural application.

Here is How-to apply this concealer like a pro!

First off,  I’m going to give you a lesson in concealing.

#1.) Apply concealer AFTER applying foundation. If you apply concealer first, then apply your foundation, you will just end up wiping it away, then having to redo it.

(The only exception to this is if you are using a mineral powder foundation-in this case, I recommend that you apply your cream concealer first, then dust your mineral foundation powder LIGHTLY over it. )

Before concealer: (bluish area in inner corner of eye)                After concealer:

The great thing about a cream concealer, is that you have plenty of time to blend it, and it blends easily.

#2.) Always start by applying the most concealer in the inner corner of the under eye area, and gently blend outward. The less concealer you apply to the outer part of your eye, the better. Makeup can make your skin look older and make any wrinkles more visible, so avoid putting it on wrinkles.

#3.) Blend! Blending is so important. You don’t want to actually look like you are wearing concealer. you want it to blend in with your skin and look as natural as possible. Just be gentle with your skin, constant pulling and pressing on it will over time make you look older. Eye skin is very delicate, so make sure you moisturize before applying concealer.

Blended:                                                        Not Blended:

As you can see in the above photo this concealer gives a lot of coverage. But always make sure that you blend it into your skin. you also want to choose a color that is very close to your skin color or slightly lighter.

Let me know if you have any further questions & what you think about these concealers if you try them!

Hair Extensions & BLONDE hair

22 May

Blonder is not always better

Would you rather have super short and damaged blonde hair,  or your natural hair color with that gorgeous length? I’ve decided to go with length.

As a model & Makeup Artist, I have seen it all when it comes to Blonde hair. Not very many girls’ hair can handle the long term damage and commitment that dying your hair blonde takes.

I know this because I have dyed my own hair a much blonder all over color than my natural shade for almost 5 years now. I started dying it really blonde after I did a magazine spread with Angus Mitchell for Modern Salon Magazine. I was on the cover and had a 7 page spread in the issue, which was my first magazine cover. I’m glad now that I did it, but I will never do it again!

Here is Angus, cutting my hair:

As honored as They cut my hair in this crazy uneven short style with bangs. Honestly, it was the worst haircut I’ve had in my whole life. I understand that it was for the “art” of the spread, but realistically, it was NOT a hair cut that I could work with on a normal day. I cried. I cried over my hair. I didn’t know what to do. Yes, it grows back, but man it takes way too long.

So back to talking about dying my hair blonde….

As part of the look for the shoot, they dyed my hair bleach blonde, added dark brown underneath, with subtle pink and yellow streaks. After the photoshoot, they allowed me to come into the salon, and dye my hair back a normal color, the bleach blonde. They removed the colored streaks and dyed the brown hair underneath uber blonde.

I started to like the really blonde look on myself. Naturally, I have dark Blonde hair with strawberry undertones. Even though the color grew on me, the length and lack of fullness that I was used to was gone.

This was my first look into hair extensions.

In the beginning, I had no idea that you could clip hair extensions in until I moved to Los Angeles. Originally being from Chicago, us midwest girls rarely wear hair extensions! Now, living in LA, and after all of the dying and damage from photo shoots that gets done to my hair, it has never been the same. It seems like it never grows, and just breaks before I need a haircut! Anyone else know what I’m talking about?

Since I didn’t want to fully commit to the semi-permanent extensions at first, I looked into getting ones that you could just clip in and out. I only wore them for photoshoots or special occasions. Thinking that once my hair grew out, I wouldn’t need them anymore, but I have been wearing them ever since. Like I mentioned before, having my hair that blonde, it would break off at about my shoulders, and never seemed to be any longer.

Here’s one of my SECRETS, SHHHHHHH! Don’t Tell!! ;)

I have 2 sets of extensions, ones I wear when my hair is straight, and ones that I wear when my hair is curly. This not only prolongs the life of your clip-ins, it also makes getting ready in the morning so much quicker! Since I don’t have to restyle (recurl or straighten) the extensions as often. They are also cut and layered differently so that they look more natural for the style.

Now, after realizing that my hair was never going to be strong enough to grow the length I wanted it to if i kept dying it, I’ve jumped on the “Ombre/ Baliage” trend, and taken full advantage of this look. If you don’t know what that is you can see examples of it here:

Ombre Trend:

I have been just highlighting every 4 months, and letting my natural hair color shine through as much as possible! My ends are much lighter, and my roots are darker, hence the “ombre” look. But the highlighting allows for a more blended look, it’s not so drastic, it fades nicely.

This is a current photo of me with my natural color growing in:

And Here is an old photo of me with really blonde hair to see before & after

But as soon as all of the overall dyed hair grows out, it will be back to auNatural! Girls, I have to tell you, my natural hair is softer, and fuller than it’s been in 5 years. It’s like I had forgotten what it was like to have normal hair. My hair was always so dry and fragile, feeling like straw, ugh, so bad. Now, my hair is healthier and I’ve been getting so many compliments on it. I am totally embracing this, and learning to love my real hair color again. I think you should too. You probably wont like it when I say this, but if your hair is super short, and doesn’t seem to grow because you dye it blonde, stop! Don’t keep frying your hair off. Long natural hair is sooooo much better than fried short blonde hair where we can all tell you have hair extensions in!

Ok, so for those of you that can’t do it, I get it. I get it! So, Here is what I’m going to do for you! I’m going to come out with my own line of Clip-In Hair extensions for you.
Why? Well, because I have become what you might call an EXPERT in the Clip-in hair extension department. ;) I’m great at not only placing them in such a way that they look completely natural, so no one Ever knows that I am wearing them, but I’m also great at blending them to look like your real hair.

Yes, I’m really going to do this. So Subscribe/follow my blog so you will be notified right away when they are available!

FAN-Tastic Brushes from SUNSET BLONDE BEAUTY!

21 May

The Fan Brush is Sunset Blonde’s MUST HAVE makeup tool.

And I bet, most of you have never even owned one, and if you do, you don’t know what it is for!?

If so, you are missing out on this amazing little beauty tool!

Luckily for you, I have really incredible high quality fan bushes for you to purchase for your collection from SUNSET BLONDE BEAUTY! I have 2 different size Fan Brushes available. The luxuriously soft FANCY FACE Brush, and delicately soft FANCY CHEEKY Brush.

I highly recommend at least 2 of the FANCY FACE Brush, and at least 2 of FANCY CHEEKY Brushes. Here’s why

A fan brush has a boatload of uses, and once you try it, you’ll never give it up.

Brush Off Eye Shadow Crumbs

It can be hard to apply eye shadow and mascara without having bits of powder shadow or bits of mascara drop to your cheeks. One solution is to do your eye make-up first, so that you can wash the stray make-up off. For those of us who prefer to do the eyes last, the fan brush, used with a light hand, can brush those flecks right off without smearing them. You gotta love that. You need to keep this brush super clean all the time, so it’s a good idea to own more than one of these FANCY CHEEKY Brushes.

Apply Powder Foundation

Whether you’re using a powdered mineral foundation, a foundation with bits of gold, or a baked foundation , apply it with Sunset Blonde’s FANCY FACE Brush. The fan brush gives you far more control over how much you use and where you use it than the large ROUND types. You can layer for more foundation, or apply one or two coats for an even and natural look.

Blush Application

The FANCY CHEEKY Brush is THE perfect tool for applying blush. The brush picks up less color than an angled or blush brush, and makes it easy to apply it where you want to. One or two sweeps give you a natural look for day, or layer on more for a glam evening look. It allows you to apply it gently and softly, without ever making a mistake or looking like a clown.

Bronzer Application

Like blush, bronzer can be applied easily with the FANCY CHEEKY Brush.

Highlighter Application
Use the FANCY CHEEKY Brush to sparsely dust a light, shimmery powder over the apple of your cheeks and the middle of your forehead to bring out these areas through highlighting.

Shading Application

With the FANCY CHEEKY Brush you can also use your bronzer/a darker shade of powder to shade under your cheekbones and under your jawline to define your face subtly enough for even daytime wear! How great is that?

Powder Application

Powder to set your make-up is the last step in make-up application for many women, and the FANCY FACE Brush is ideal for this. Brushing a fine layer of powder over your face with FANCY FACE Brush will set your make-up, and you won’t have that “powdered” overdone look,

So, put your fan brush to work! And if you don’t have one, what are you waiting for?

Purchase the best ones from SUNSET BLONDE BEAUTY

My Ad with Kim Kardashian for Midori

19 May

Many of you may have noticed this advertisement for Midori featuring Kim Kardashian in a green dress, but don’t forget to notice yours truly right next to her! In case you don’t know what I look like, I’m the blonde in the white dress on the right side of Kim.

Working behind the scenes with Kim Kardashian. She was really nice! She was really in the shot as you can see. And you can also see what she looked like in real life standing next to me.

You can also note that the backdrop at the shoot was white, and the “cityscape” was edited in at a later time.

This is the complete ad for Billboards:

Sunnies Organizer (Sunglasses)

18 May

If you read my Flip Flop Organizer blog post,  this might look familiar. This is the same idea as the flip flop organizer, but with Sunnies! (Sunnies is the nick name I call my Sunglasses.)

So I have a few pairs, and I always like to keep them in their cases to prevent them from getting broken or scratched. But what to do with the case? Where do I store them? How?
After coming up with my genius Flip Flop Organizing idea, I realized that this type of organizer would also work for my Sunnies! I found a smaller one, with only 4 compartments which was perfect for my 4 Sunnies cases! I also purchased this one at HomeGoods. They sit upright in the container which is easy to see and grab. It is so important for me to organize items where they can be viewed easily, and for it to be easy for me to put them away after using them. Otherwise, it will end up elsewhere in my home, or get lost.

It is so nice to have all my Sunnies organized together, I have them placed on a metal shower rack at the entrance of my closet, so it can be the last thing I grab before I walk out the door for my day!

What do you think of this idea? I’ve also seen cool ones like this at my photo shoots, and have done some research and found similar ones on amazon.com, but I like to store them inside their cases so I can just grab the whole thing and go.

Flip Flop Organizer

18 May

What do you guys do with your Flip Flops, Sandals & Flats? Maybe I have too many pairs, but I like having them in different colors and styles. I used to put them in a plastic bin drawer, and then in a basket in the bottom of my closet, which ends up looking messy and I can’t see what is in the bottom of the drawer . I have even seen some girls that put them in those over the door shoe organizers, but I needed to come up with another way to organize my flip flops during my closet renovation. I wanted a solution that didn’t take up very much space, made it easy for me to see what flip flops I had as well as easy to put them away easily so they didn’t end up a mess on the floor.

I looked around at what I already had in my house. I had bought this drawer organizer for storing some of my extra makeup in, but realized I just ended up storing junk in it, so I grabbed it and tried to see if my flip flops would fit in it.

This is what the organizer looks like with nothing in it:

OMG, this was the BEST idea I’ve ever had! It worked so perfectly, and solved this flipflop mess that I had in my closet.

Because there are different sections I can place the flip flops in it by type and by color. I place each pair, sole-to-sole upright in each compartment with makes it easy for me to see which flip flops they are, and I can even stack similar ones together in each section.

Here is the organizer with one pair of flip flops in it:

You can place them in Vertically

Or Horizontally, depending on the size of your flip flops and where you want to put it.

The ones that I wear most often, I placed in the front sections of the organizer so that they are easy to see, take out and put back away.

This makes it convenient for me to slide it in and out from under a stool I keep in my closet (to reach things on the top shelf) which keeps it out of the way, and utilized the space under the stool.

Here is a photo of what it looks like with a bunch of shoes in it. I left one slot empty in the Flip Flop Organizer, so you can see how I have it, and maybe for a new pair that I might be adding to my collection soon since summer is coming up?

I purchased this organizer at HomeGoods. You also might be able to find something like this at TJMaxx or Ross. Sometimes those stores have great organizers. And it was only $7.00!!

Bare Minerals Container Secret!

18 May

Bare Minerals Container Secret!

Some of you may have noticed, I am a huge fan of Bare Minerals! I wear my Bare Minerals foundation in Golden Medium on days that I’m not at a photo shoot. I love it mainly because of how easy it is to apply in the mornings, and reapply for touch-ups throughout the day, and still gives me that perfect flawless complexion that I love when I wear foundation.

Not only do I think is it one of the most natural looking foundations out there, but it’s actually really good for your skin. It only contains 5 natural ingredients including sunblock, so it is the best foundation product on the market, especially for those of you with sensitive skin, and mature skin. I have received many compliments and girls asking me what foundation that I use because it looks so good! What is another huge factor for me & why I wear this product, is because it photographs beautifully.  So even on days that I’m not in front of a professional camera,  when taking photos with a digital camera or phone camera, my skin looks flawless.
I’ve been using Bare Minerals since the beginning. The packaging that it came in recently changed. But what I loved about the old packaging was that it was so easy to remove the sifter and use every last bit of the powder, or make my own custom colors by mixing it.
The new Bare Minerals containers have a new “Click, Lock, Go” sifter that twists and locks foundation in to prevent spills, which is great for keeping it neat and clean. But to my disappointment I soon realized that I was unable to get to the makeup stuck underneath and I had to fight to get the makeup out and I really started to hate the new packaging. Fiercely tapping the container upside down, which wasn’t working either.

After attempting to remove the sifter the old way and realizing it was impossible, I decided to play around and see if there was any other way it was possible to take this container apart. After trying my hardest to figure out a way to get at it, I realized that you can get to the foundation from the bottom! YES!! So happy! This allowed me to use all of the foundation in the container, and even remove some to put in a smaller to-go container that I keep in my purse for touch ups! Thank you to the Bare Minerals people that thought of this!!

Here is how you take the bottom off:
1.) Flip the container over with the black cap in top screwed on tightly:

2.) Open it up from the bottom by popping open the cap. There is a lip that you can grab onto using strong tweezers or pliers, and the whole bottom comes off if you pry it hard enough. (don’t ruin your good tweezers)  Please be careful if removing the bottom when it it still full, you don’t want your precious Bare Minerals to spill.

3.) Make sure that you close the bottom all the way when you are done! Press the cap all the way back in, it will click back into place.

If you haven’t tried Bare Minerals, I highly recommend that you go to the store, and have someone help you choose a shade that perfectly matches your skin tone. Don’t order the infomercial one, or get the starter kit. Only buy the shade that matches your skin from the store so that you know what you are getting.

BLOG SALE- WHITE JOVANI DRESS

10 May

HI GIRLIES!!

I recently purchased this dress for a photoshoot for a jewelery company, and only wore it once for the shoot. I was walking down the street in it for 10 minutes during the shoot for a video segment, and the train in the back was dragging, so it picked up a little dirt, but it’s still in great condition. The fabric on all of these dresses is very fragile, and it has some tiny snags in the fabric in a few places, but it’s so subtle that it doesn’t impact the look of the dress.  It’s a gorgeous dress that can be worn for many special occasions. It is strapless and has a leg slit, and a hole in the waist on one side embroidered with silver rectangular sequins. It has very flattering rushing in the front, and a long train in the back. This dress’s original price is $496.00 + tax. I am selling it as is for  $300.00!

My Signature Eye Makeup Technique

4 May

HOW-TO

I have blonde hair, and therefore, blonde eyelashes, and eyebrows…this sometimes is not so pretty. So I have come up with a certain way that I like to do my eye makeup that really accentuates the shape and beauty of them.

Below is a photo of how my eye looks with no eye makeup on:

I love more of a cat-eye look and the almond shape, enhancing the outer corners of my eyes and keeping it natural and lighter on the inner corners. I place the eyeshadow in an UP & OUT technique.  I have come up with this special way to do my eye makeup that I have also tried on some of my makeup clients that seems to work well on a variety of eye shapes.

Here is the finished look:

Without eye makeup, my eyes look small and close-set. I try to make my eyes look larger and farther apart.

Dust a pale, light-reflective shadow across the inner three-quarters of each lid, then apply a dark shadow from lash line to crease at the outer corner using the small shader brush (see brush below). I use A bronze or brown color because it looks more natural than any other shade.

Next step is to add the same bronze color eyeshadow to the lower lashline starting at the outer corner and blending and tapering off half way only:

TIP: Please limit dark liner to the outer corner of your eye (top and bottom) if you are going to use it. But I recommend it at night, I think it tends to be too dark for the daytime. Here is how I apply the cream liner crayon, which I like in either brown or purple. In this photo I’m using the purple one, to give it a subtle pop so that you can see it. I apply it inside lower lashline and underlashes on outer corners only:

Next, BLEND!! Blend the shadow into the crease and outer corners with the larger blending brush.

Add mascara to top lashes, concentrating on outer corners and sweeping lashes out. It is also very important to get the mascara as close to the lash line as you can.

Add a light coat of mascara to the outer corner bottom lashes, and VERY lightly to inner bottom lashes:

Again, concentrate on putting the mascara thicker on the outer corner lashes:

Blending and placement of color are super important.

Sometimes I will add some liquid Eyeliner and False lashes for a more glamorous look for photo shoots or a night out. The photo pictured directly below has no liquid eyeliner and No false lashes. All mine baby!

Brush Up
Your fingers will NOT get the job done. You need good brushes which are dramatically better for blending and building color.
Here is what you need:
You can buy these brushes as a set or individually from www.sunsetblonde.com
From top to bottom:
1. BLENDER BRUSH
Long and fluffy, this tool is perfect for shading your creases, emphasizing the outer corners of your eyes, and blending shadows together. This is my favorite brush, and is essential to this soft shadow look.
2. DELUXE CREASE BRUSH
It’s ideal for applying your base color. Choose one made with super-soft natural hairs, like sable or goat, if you’re working with powdered shadow. I don’t like cream shadows, unless they come in the form of a thick eye pencil.
3. BABY BULLET BRUSH
I love this brush for shading dark underneath the bottom lashes, outer corners and in the crease. Followed by the Blender Brush to really blend the shadow above the crease.

Some makeup products I recommend to get this look:

Available only for a limited time: Extra Dimension Eyeshadows from MAC in Rich Core (which is a shimmery wine color) and Havana (a pretty bronze), These shadows have high pigmentation and are easily blended.
Also, pictured above are my new favorite Jumbo Crayons from Sephora called Sephora 12H (12 Hour) Waterproof Jumbo Crayons. I have them in almost all the colors, but pictured above is my favorite bronze color in #07 Brown, and #01 White. And below is the Purple color that I used in the photos above.

These are the new shadows and jumbo Cream liner sticks that I’m using right now. I use the shadows on outer corners of upper eyelid and blend into the crease with the small shader brush, then blend with the Blender Brush. Followed by a swipe of the bronze Jumbo Liner pencil under bottom lashes on the outer corners only. Sometimes I will use a highlighter  or light shadow color on the inner corners.

I used this Bronze Essential Eye Shadow Single from Kevyn Aucoin Beauty in the photos above. This is a smooth Bronze color that blends well and comes in a nice compact with a tiny mirror.

The great thing about this look is that once you master it, you can play with different eyeshadow colors. It is really quick and easy to do, and has amazing results.

Let me know if you have any questions and how this look worked for you if you try it!

Also, stay tuned for the Darker & more glamorous night-time version of my Signature Sunset Eye look! With darker eyeshadow, Liquid Eyeliner and False Lashes!

Sunset Loves Baby Pink Gloss

8 Nov pink gloss

BABY PINK GLOSS

Baby pink gloss make lips ultrafeminine. Wear instead of a nude lip color with natural makeup for a soft look, or to toughen up the color, pair it with smokey dark eyes. I would layer on a nice coat if you have fair or medium skin, but because this shade can look frosty on dark skin, only apply a few dots and rub lips together for a sheer finish.

Try this color:

Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Bare Pink (buy here)
“Lip Glacé is a high-shine, perfectly pigmented lip gloss with rich, long-lasting colour and brilliant shine that creates the appearance of fuller lips. Any skin tone is virtually enhanced by creating a subtle contrast in texture. “

LIVED-IN SMOKEY EYELINER

Smoky eyeliner is always sexy.  The trick is to take a cream liner (I love this stay put one from Makeup Forever Aqua Black Waterproof Cream Eyeshadow), and powder shadow and go to town around the eyes—trace the lashes inside the lid and out with an angled brush & cream liner, smudge the lines gently with a smudge brush or cotton swab, and then swipe black powder shadows from the lids to the crease with an eyeshadow brush,  blending as you go. Finish the look with a Very Black Mascara.

Sunset’s Natural Makeup Tips

7 Nov

Natural Look Makeup is all about making your features stand out, without looking like you are wearing a ton of makeup. It is easy to go overboard and look too glam, so consider which steps to skip if you wear makeup frequently. Start with flawless skin, and contour to give your face a 3 dimensional look. You don’t need false eyelashes, lip liner, or eyeliner. Stay with neutrals, colors for they eyes that match your hair color or try shades of taupes and brown, bronze, or burgandy. Black mascara is ok, but if you have brown or blonde hair use a dark brown mascara for a softer look. Adding mascara only to the upper lashes also gives you a more natural look. You can choose to skip blush if you did some cheek conturing, but stick to a very subtle shade of pink or peach blush with a light application if you feel you need it. You can also use a bronzer on your cheeks instead of blush for a more natural color.  Choose a lip color that is either very sheer or close to your natural lip shade. See my post on Nude lip colors for ideas of good nude lip products.

Here is my NATURAL MAKEUP LOOK. NO PHOTOSHOP & BARELY ANY MAKEUP. JUST LIGHT MINERAL POWDER BY FRESH, CONCEALER UNDER EYES, AND OVER BLEMISH ON CHIN. MASCARA ON TOP LASHES ONLY, VERY LIGHT TAUPE EYESHADOW BY CHANEL ON OUTTER CORNERS OF MY CREASE, AND GLOSS DABBED LIGHTLY ON LIPS. NO BLUSH, NO CONTURING, NO EYELINER, NO LIPLINER.

Below is a photo of  natural makeup that I did on Camille Anderson. I enhanced her eyes more than I did on myself in the photo above. I made her skin look flawless with concealer and cream foundation from Cinema Secrets, eye shadow is a bronze shade blended in the crease and lightly under her bottom lashes, and mascara is black. I kept her lips nude, with just a clear gloss, and popped her cheeks with a light dusting of bronzer with a medium fan brush.

How to clean your makeup Brushes

Girls- I can’t tell you enough, your makeup brushes will stay in better condition, and will apply your makeup better if they are clean! So please, clean your makeup brushes at least every 2-3 days. Some brushes should be cleaned after each use, like your eyeliner brush or lip brush!
How to clean your makeup Brushes:

Also, proper and frequent cleaning of your makeup brushes will greatly reduce your risk of infections or irritations.

Here are some general tips on how to clean your brushes:

  1. Use warm water to clean the brushes.
  2. Apply either a small amount of mild shampoo, antibacterial soap or brush cleanser.
  3. Gently lather the brush and rinse under warm water until the water comes out clear and all makeup has been removed.Thoroughly rinse all soap out of brushes.
  4. Squeeze out the excess water in the brushes.
  5. Lay the brushes flat on a towel and allow them to air dry.
If you don’t have time to let them air dry over night and you need to clean them right away and have them dry within a few minutes you can use a fast drying brush cleaner.
My favorite one is Namie’s brush cleaner  you can put it in a spray bottle, spray on brushes and gently swipe back and forth and gentle circles on a paper towel until clean and disinfected. This is the easiest and quickest way to clean your makeup brushes. It removes all types of makeup. It has the best scent out of all the makeup brush cleaners that I’ve tried, and doesn’t leave any residue on your brushes. It also evaporates very quickly, so you can have a clean dry brush within minutes of cleaning it.

Sunset’s Look Good Nudes

7 Nov Rachel-bernstein1b

You can never go wrong with a nude/natural lip, so here are some of my favorite nude lip products that I use on a daily basis. If they seem to be too light for you, then you can mix or layer them with other lip colors that you may already have. The prettiest nude lip color is slightly brighter or deeper than your skin tone. If you’re pale, look for something with a hint of pink. Those with yellow or olive undertones or dark skin look best with sandy beiges.

NARS LIP LACQUER IN CHELSEA GIRLS- Which is a cream gloss that comes in a pot. I apply it with my finger when on the go or a lip brush at home. It gives just the right amount of color, and shine, and isn’t sticky.

SMASHBOX LIP ENHANCING GLOSS-TRUE COLOR IN PIXEL-A great slick gloss with a subtle shimmer and shine in a nice creamy nude shade. I like to layer this one over lipsticks.

LAURA MERCIER LIP STAIN IN PEACH GLAZE- This one comes in a pot and is more like a lipstick than a lipstain. It has a matte finish, and high pigmentation that is great to dab lightly on your lips with your finger for a natural look, or layer under a lip gloss.

CLINIQUE LONG LAST SOFT SHINE LIPSTICK IN 03 CREAMY NUDE- A great nude lipcolor that has a sublte shine and moderate coverage. It stays in place, but lasts about as long as most lipsticks despite the “long last” claims. I like it because it is moisturizing and soft on the lips. This is a great lip color to keep in your purse for quick touch ups and applying easily without a mirror.

LIP tips:

DON'T OVERDO IT!
Prevent your lipstick shade from looking heavy by swiping it on just your bottom lip, pressing lips together, and using your finger to distribute the color over your mouth.
BLOT, BLOT, BLOT!
To make your lipstick last longer, apply it straight from the tube, blot with a tissue, then swipe it on again. Blotting creates a base, and the second coat adds shine and coverage.

All of these nudes are available to purchase at Sephora

Chanel Correcteur

CHANEL

LONG LASTING CONCEALER FLUID

Loving this new concealer I purchased today at Saks from Chanel. It’s a creamy light weight gel-based concealer for light/medium coverage depending how you apply it. Great for covering up my dark under eye circles, (where I apply it only to the inner corners) and any blemishes. It contains soft-focus pigments that truly brighten the dark areas. It is a wand applicator, similar to a lip-gloss, which makes it an easy concealer to take on the go. I suggest applying a dot or 2 to area needing to be concealed, and blend with your finger an even and natural effect.

It comes in 6 colors. I purchased it in #20 BEIGE IVOIRE (which is has a light yellowish undertone to it)

I BOUGHT MINE FROM SAKS.COM

Sunset’s Tanning Secret

25 Oct

I am very fair skinned, but since I do a lot of bikini modeling, my clients always request for me to be tan. I don’t believe in going to tanning salons since my grandpa passed away from skin cancer from working outside with no sunblock all his life. There is always the option of getting a spray tan, but standing a box where you can’t breathe and being cold from the wet spray is kind of awful to me. I prefer to tan in the privacy and comfort of my own home. With that being said, I have tried and tested so many self tanning products over the years, these are the best ones that I’ve tried and are by far my favorites.

1.  BANANA BOAT Summer Color Self-Tanning Lotion in Deep Dark Color

BANANA BOAT Summer Color Self-Tanning Lotion in Deep Dark Color is the easiest lotion to apply, and lotion is a natural brown tint to it, so when you apply it you can see where it goes and also gives you a natural instant tan, which develops into a deeper tan overnight. Light scent, so not too obvious that you are wearing self tanner. I put it on before bed so it soaks in overnight, and it doesn’t easily come off on clothes once dry. For a deeper color I layer it on by showering at night, applying one layer and going to bed, and then followed by applying another layer in the morning. You don’t have to use rubber gloves when applying this one, because it washes off your hands easily. But for some types of tanner I buy rubber gloves at the pharmacy (Rite Aid, CVS, or Walgreens) or beauty supply store (like  Sally Beauty) and wear them on my hands while rubbing it into my skin. There is no sparkles in it, and it dries quickly (about 10 minutes) Best part is, the price! On average it’s about $7.50 and sometimes I find it on sale as a 2 for 1 deal at Ulta stores. I found it at Walmart and Ulta. Here’s a link to order it online from Ulta Banana Boat Summer Color

2. So Bronze Self-Tanning Body Bronzing

I use this product in conjunction with the Summer Color Self-Tanning Lotion (seen above). I use it to spray on my face, neck, hands and feet ONLY. It gives me even color in those hard to get places, and it’s important that a self-tan also looks like a natural tan…so this is My Secret.

So Bronze spray instantly creates a light golden glow immediately and also has Self-Tanning bronzers that gradually develop within 2-4 hours.

  • Ultra fine mist-Great for using on FACE, HANDS AND FEET for an even application.
  • Dries quickly in less than 5 minutes and won’t stain clothing-FOR EVEN FASTER DRYING, I use a hair dryer on a cool heat setting to speed up the pace!  (ESPECIALLY AFTER SPRAYING ON FACE-I suggest to keep your eyes closed if you spray on your face, until spray application is dry)
  • Hands free, no rub application-which makes it easy to spray on the tops of your hands and feet.
  • Doesn’t smell
“Directions

For best results apply to clean, exfoliated skin. Shake well before and during each use. Hold can 4-6 inches away from skin and spray in an even continuous sweeping motion. Apply sparingly around ankles, knees, elbows and hairline. Designed to spray at any angle, even upside down.  Allow skin to dry before dressing. Avoid bathing, swimming and perspiring for at least 3 hours. Reapply as needed to maintain or deepen color.”

It is a little pricey for tanning spray at $34.00, but I only use it on my face, hands and feet, so it goes a long way. You can buy it online or at your local Ulta store.

3.) Giesee and it’s called SUN in Very Dark color.

In the photo below are the gloves that I use to apply self tanner. I purchase them at Rite Aid, but you can usually find them at any pharmacy. The Vinyl gloves I find are the best kind to apply self tanner with and help you to get a smooth application without running the risk of orange palms. Plus, it saves you the time from having to scrub your hands after applying. The white bottle is a new self tanner I started using. It’s on the expensive side, but it is really dark, has sort of a cherry/almond scent to it, and sticks to my face well. I have been using that one mostly on my face the night before. But I also like to use it on my body when I need a dark tan fast! It’s by Giesee and it’s called SUN in Very Dark color. I bought it at an Ulta store, I wasn’t able to find it on their online store, BUT I found it for you for less than half price on Amazon.com!!!! HOW AWESOME AM I? Here is the link:

http://www.amazon.com/Sun-Laboratories-Sunsation-Tanning-Lotion/dp/B0009V8N4U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1336407203&sr=8-2

I’m even going to order it online from now on, since it’s HALF the price!! Yay!

Even though this bronzer comes in a pump bottle, close the bottle when you are done by twisting the pump. When the air gets to it, it tends to turn a greenish color, and you don’t want that!

Let me know how you girls do with this, and if this post was helpful?
